I’ve had 3 PC’s running no firewall other than the basic router one for years – no problems so far. However within minutes of opening the SSH port and installing a server (with its own firewall and other security etc) the server was being blasted with false logins (1-200 a day at times). Upped the security more (denyhosts etc) and it seems to have limited their attempts (they get bored after 3-4 failed attempts and subsequent blockings).

Essentially a hardware firewall (like the router) is virtually perfect for the average user (who doesnt have government secrets to be found) and providin the user isnt stupid enough to execute software/virus ridden stuff that opens a port from the inside.

I’d be impressed with standard 5 year warranties (since a lot would be the same goods everyone else got) as many electrical items I’ve had have lasted just fractionally over 12 months lol.

I’d only go for warranties on things you cant replace the parts on cheaply and easily, like TVs and expensive audio equipment. Things like washing machines, fridges, freezers etc can be pulled apart by any ham-fisted spanner wrangler and/or fixed fairly cheaply by the trade. A large LCD panel isnt cheap regardless of source or repairer. I’d go with the 5 year warranty.

Lookout for Sony’s dead pixel policy though – it just says “a few dead pixels is considered normal” – leaving you open to arguing the definition of “a few”.

I doubt even hypnotherapy could get me a-dancin’ :)

Download and listen to one of paul mckennas hypnotherapy CDs, they appear to have a B side trance (not the music) thing that really is incredibly relaxing to listen to. I rarely ever sleep before 3 but last night was out like a light at 1am, I was getting desparate too!, but now I’m probably subconsciously programmed to eat onions raw and send cash to him for no reason.

Crikey, I presume he must have done more damage than just scrape his shin then as I cant imagine getting an ambulance/air ambulance out for anything less than very serious!

I Dont get watches somehow, they annoy me by being on my wrist. They get in the way. I have to take them off to work. I forget where I’ve put them and generally lose track of them, have to use my mobile which serves perfectly. £500 on a watch seems criminal to me, but each to his own I guess! My casio thermometer watch still works 15 years and two batteries on, but it has had 2 £3 straps and is now in my drawer as the last strap-caught-on-bike-while-crashing event damaged tha casing.

never got mine over 188 i dont think, at least that was what I saw shortly before first white, then blacking out on an uphill sprint. Managed to fall into a bush nicely – put it down to being ill, but its not a bad figure.

Not really, top end cars have air suspension that changes at the touch of a button, ‘magnetic’ shocks that don’t compress under cornering loads to keep a car flatter in the corners, anti roll bar mounts that rotate under cornering to stiffen things up, granted its only really on expensive cars, but we are comparing against expensive frames right?

But active-ish suspension systems on cars (and not even high end ones(dynamically, automatically variable shocks) have been around since the mid 80s (Mitsubishi). Which just shows that all that’s happened is a slow trickle of improvements over two decades, not major leaps, just as with bikes.

As for the dual wishbone forky setup, didnt that jave a j-type axle path, shortening the wheelbase and tucking the nose under – tough to deal with, especially on cornering?

Lol at the “our church” link. If you go to the root domain (rather than the faulty link) you’ll see the subliminal messaging on their home page – a giant image in the centre of the page that says:

    GENEROUS

    Sustained Local Christian Presence

Rich – good way to look at it, silver lining and all. Id use my local grocer and deli if they sold anything decent :)

I was quite amused by the GCSE revision notes:

    USA (capitalism):
    Free elections.
    World’s wealthiest country.
Many people in USA opposed to Communism.
Important to them that people were free of control by government.
American’s believed other countries should be run their way. *
Individual rights of people very important.
    Industry privately owned.

    USSR (communism):
    One party dictatorship.
Standard of living lower than in Capitalist countries.
    Society was important.
Soviet leaders believed other countries should be run their way. *
Individual rights of people were not important.
    Industry state owned.

    * Everyone always believes they are right. Rare that anyone is.

Always wanted one of these orrible looking things since I saw one floating over stuff in the Alps. Never thought it was pretty though!

Always wanted a Coyote HT5 frame, never found one at a sensible price while I had the cash.

Maybe Halfords tried to copy the blinginins bikes of their time

I’m sure, and regardless of which came first, I still think it looks like a £30 bike lol (In fact I had to google to find out what it was as I thought it was a joke!). I like the litespeed, very much.

I find all these bizzare high-chainstay bikes look like halfords specials (you know, the £30 steel kids bikes), I know they might not be but I cant get it out of my head when i see them!

To be honest if you just want a non-dynamic site with the basics then something like seamonkey[/url](free) will do the trick perfectly well, we do a brief lesson on it to first years to give them an appreciation of basic web devel. Personally I generally end up falling back into raw HTML editing if I’m doing that sort of thing though, and notepad will do that, but its not very beginner friendly. I now use CMS as I just couldnt be bothered with the setup, structuring and relative difficulty in setting up a vaguely dynamic and secure site. Hardest job with something like e107 is setting up the database and changing theme to something you like.

suspect it would be an aweful lot harder to make progress and improve if profits were not involved. Not impossible, but too difficult to bother with.

Is there any chance of searches finding words <4 chars? Searching per forum? A few more search features at least – seeing as we’ll have no ammunition for the “USE THE SEARCH” people (like myself) if we cant moan at newbies legitimately not searching.

    Ask him about climate change

Interesting that, I DID ask my grandad about it in passing conversation – his comment was that they used to have proper extremes of weather (hot summers, cold winters and serious rain in between) and that now we get a boring mash of everything together, no extremes. Not sure how that sits with the meteorologists who seem to suggest we are getting more extremes these days. Certainly I remember hotter summers and colder winters than we have now, and frequent torrential downpours like ive never seen since, but my lifetime isnt that long so not really representative.

No, it would be a waste of my time and energy. And coffeeking, I’m not a he….

Sorry, I had no way of knowing as your profile says nothing and you hang out in the classifieds so I’ve no way of finding out through conversation. Either way you dont seem overly capable of conversation (or maybe just dont play well with others) so have a good day. Hope you buy something I sell some day :)

If you don’t push yourself a bit you don’t get the personal satisfaction from getting better.

I used to love the fitness pushing fun, back then riding was fun just for riding. Then I lost the fitness and found the scariness, scariness is overpowering and fitness is vey hard to find again!
