I’m not trolling but I genuinely couldn’t care about him. He carried a gun with the intention if using it, but ended up getting shot himself. Tough titty.

Looking at booking last minute for Morzine next weekend. I’ve never been so looking for hints and tips if anyone can help.

By the way, I left BASI 4 years ago because of a low tolerance of muppets, but what is going on at the moment? I cant see the members pages but the impression I’m getting from friends back home is, it looks like the jobs for the boys crowd are trying a coup and taking over. Anyone got inside info?

That’s right, cause nobody ever learns life skills. We’re all programmed from birth with everything we need to know.

Had a fight with a mate at 3am outside an American beer tent on an old Turkish air base whilst on exercise. Our other mates were cheering us on when an American sergeant ran over and told us to stop. We did but only to laugh at him. He walked away in disgust muttering something about crazy Brits. We then went back inside and bought each other a drink. Cleared the air between us.

Call sign: “er ATC, we’re reaching flight level blah de blah, can we get further climb?”
ATC: ” negative, traffic 1000ft above crossing right to left”
Call sign: ” oh yes, we have him on TCAS/visual”
    Why ask then?

Always 3 standard replies when people hear my job.

    “Is it stressful?”
“Which tower do you work in?”
    Or my personal favourite
“Are you the guy with the Ping pong bats?”

My car history so far has been Mk4 2.0 GTI, Mk4 1.9tdi and now Mk5 R32, all manual.

The GTI was great at handling but was no where near as powerful as a GTI should be and I barely got more than 40mpg. Wish I’d went for the 1.8t but it was loads of fun on B roads.

The TDI was very front heavy so went through tyres quickly but easily got +55mpg which was fine when I lived 30 min from work. I loved the car but moved closer to work so the car didnt eaven get a chance to warm up.

The R32? Oh dear mother of god. Sounds amazing, goes like a rocket and I’ve still not found the grip limit (been trying hard!). Downsides, I struggle to get near 30mpg but I dont care about that. Financially its a money pit but if you buy one expecting any different, your misleading yourself. As I said, its manual but i’d heard stories about the DSG reliability in the 07/08 models so stuck with manual. I’d prefer DSG as I find the manual a bit of hard work at times but due the amount of torque in the V6, once your above 30 it satys in 6th unless I’m playing.

As for GTI’s? More economical for what is marginal difference in power. The grip is good but I cant see past 4 motion now. I’d also go for DSG as most people are saying above.

If you dont hear from me by christmas I’ll be in a hedge somewhere in Hampshire with a grin on my face.

I have a thing for jackets which can be pricey. Rab for climbing, Eider for skiing and McQueen Barbour jacket. All +£300. Every other piece of clothing I have though, I’ve had for years. Most of my jeans are so old and worn that their see through.

Cheers beanum! I’ve been to both of them before. Saas fee in summer and zermatt in April but I’ve never been thus early in the season so was unsure of conditions. A guy on snow heads has said the glacier runs and cervinia side are open and the conditions are good. I’m hoping it fills in enough to get most of the way down! Think it’s going to be zermatt but it means no popcorn. :-(

I donate and buy a poppy. Over the past 2 weeks or so I’ve sometimes forgotten to wear it when I’ve left the house. No biggie.

It’s up to the individual if they want to wear a poppy or not, just as its up to the individual to decide how or what they remember. No problems either way.

I’ve been the recipient of some narky comments such as “why you f*&%ing wearing that?”, just as I’ve heard voices disapproving of “youth not showing respect by wearing a poppy”. I dislike these people. A lot.

Folks needing some advice. I’m on leave the last week of November and it’s a coin toss between Saas Fee and Zermatt. I really want to take the other half to Zermatt but the clincher will be what area has the most open? Does anyone have any knowledge?

I’m scared of flying but it’s more about the claustrophobia and lack of control that does it for me. Maybe this story will help. I swear it’s true.

At Malta airport I was waiting on the return flight to gatwick after a particularly drunk couple if days with a mate. In the terminal I spotted an English lad wearing full motorbike leathers including boots and gloves. I thought it was weird but thought no more of it until he sat across the aisle from me on the plane. By this point his jacket was zipped up to the top and his boots were done up as well. As we started taxiing out to the runway he clasped his hands together and started rocking back and forward like a Muslim at prayer. As we got airborne this continued until we eventually leveled off at the cruise. At this point he started relaxing, unzipped the jacket and took his gloves and boots off. Up until this point I assumed it was a weight/luggage issue why he was wearing this but alas, no. The old lady next to him asked him if that was why he was wearing the gear. His reply was, “if the plane crashes on take off or landing my bike leathers will protect me from the fire ball so I can get out the door”. It was then that I forgot all about my fears as I was concentrating so hard on not collapsing with laughter and falling out my chair. True to form, when the pilot announced ten minutes, the gloves and boots were back on and the jacket was zipped back up. I don’t know if the lad was a genius or nutter.

Anyways, buy yersel some bike leathers. It helped him.

Hardanger plateau (not sure of spelling) in Norway. Balmy -15 when we dug our snow hole. Toasty inside but in the morning we climbed out into -29. That was a shock to the system.

I’ve got a week off from the 25th of Nov. Looks like saas fee is open then but I’d prefer to take the missus to Zermatt but all the website is saying is it will be open at the end of Nov. Think I’ll be holding off on booking the digs until I know!

They switched to 27R for landing hoping they would be more sheltered. Didn’t help much. Ground speeds were interesting on outbounds!

No probs. ATC. As I left an emirates was diverting to Manchester and there were a few twitchy requests for weather updates.

It was the poor a318 from JFK. Couldn’t get into city this morning.

I left at 0700 so after that I don’t know what was happening.

    cobrakai
    Full Member

Er no they weren’t. Between 0600 and 0700 there were many go arounds as it was 235 gusting to 80. As I left there was numerous diversion requests and all ground movement was stopped.

I only say Cathay and Singapore as I’m sure they have lots of experience of extreme winds and they decided to make approaches but ended up going round and holding again.

Tanoshi fusion is great for sushi. Black boy for ale and quirkiness. Water meadows and st Katherine’s hill for views over the city. Greens is a nice bar. Further afield the new Forrest for walks and my 2 favourite pubs are the brushmakers in Upham and the shoe at exton. The round table is worth a look.

Well, er, Jacko and the Badger bought it at the first Ypres front, unfortunately. Quite a shock, that. I remember Bumfluff’s house-master wrote and told me that Sticky had been out for a duck, and the Gubber had snitched a parcel sausage-end and gone goose-over-stump frogside.

    :D
