buy some 3M snap velcro (ebay £10 per meter) then use that to attach camera to frame tubes etc…
heres 3 films using different mountings
beachride using fork mounted(pointing up and down,
downtube near headtube,
rear chainstay disc side looking back (can be pointed forward too)
down tube above cranks..used rotate 90 or 180 degree on movie maker,
mounts on front and rear racks, rear is 360 so can film stuff as you ride by like the old submarmines or the sea here…
this snowride film uses same and also the front and rear mechs working
for a good sense of speed mount camera above front tyre …the endomorph cam!coastkidFree Membernearly 3 feet up at longyester now… my mate just off the phone…john muir way through sherrif hall is a cool trail early spring if dry…my legs are dead from nearly 4 weeks of this snow lol..
coastkidFree MemberKbrembo i bought the pug for riding on sand..along the coastline here..the racks were fitted for a couple of camping trips but left on for mudgaurds for the road spray off the big tyres..enjoying the snow although id say the pug is a way better sand bike than a normal bike compared to snow…some snow is ok on a reg bike..once its past the BB id rather have a regular bike for pushing..but stuff like i filmed today its easy…and a bit better on ice too…glad i bought it now :-)
coastkidFree Membertop-up of snow last night in east lothian…
4-6" here..my mate has 2ft up the road at a hillfarm!

it's just a pity that it involves having a frame specifically designed to allow you to use one.
there is a way around this if your a confident engineer…thought this was pretty neat…
coastkidFree Membergive it a go its great fun,we may not get weather like this for another 30 years!
..if your unsure try riding a snowpacked ungritted road or forestry road…its great fun…coastkidFree Memberhi thanks..i like the wierd halo effect when pointed direct at the sun!
tune to snowbiking film is "hurry on sundown" by "hawkwind"coastkidFree Member32-22 gearing
22psi in the tyres
flat pedals and combat boots (and tights got some funny looks today!)
perfect ice bike – until i get a pugsley.
word…
coastkidFree MemberI found it difficult at first but getting better at it now. If only I could stop my freehub freezing… that really makes things more difficult
degrease your freehub then give it a blast with a hot air gun then pack it with graphite grease,if you know anyone working in machinery/garage etc… they can get you a tube of wurth graphite grease..this stuff works down to – 25C..did my full lenght cables and opened up sealed bearings too and added this..,it has graphite so if the grease gets washed out the graphite will stay and provides lube..alaskan mining equipment uses this stuff so as you can imagine should be ok here in the UK..
coastkidFree Membertachyon 2010 xc around £180 at http://www.thepictureexchange.co.uk
they take up to 32G cards,i have 16G cards which give 4 hours film at best quality,16 at lowest, they take stills and timelapse..3 days on a 16G card.. very very robust..i dropped one at 70 mph on my motorbike and it bounced down the road..switched off but still worked!..i killed a go pro but there good too but unless you want an HD one id go for the tachyon..its the lesser knowen underdog in helmet cameras but i think there really good value..oh i filmed at -9 C too with lithium batteries for 4 hours no probs 2 weeks ago..
and you can use vista`s movie maker no probs with them..
heres some of my films to check the quality…
snowbiking
local trailride..
motorcycle ride
some icy but fun singletrack…
beachride in midwinter low sun..coastkidFree Memberanything that can take a surly endomorph 3.7" tyre rules in snow…,they will push through a bit more than regular tyres when it gets deep (10-12") just look at what people ride in countrys which get this weather every year…you can ride snow on any tyre though the fatter and lower the pressure the easier…wont beat a proper ice tyre for proper black ice but the endo`s are amazing on it compared to regular mtb tyres…2.5 conti desiels proberly your next best for a regular mtb… esp if on a wide rim..
coastkidFree Memberyep every day..not been that deep but was big drifts last week…around 1 ft deep..easy on pugsley though..just eats it up,even frozen untreated ruts…amazingly good on ice too..pressure down to 6psi…just have to be carefull..so far stayed upright.. :-)
coastkidFree Memberthis guys idea is good for DIY studs
alot of folk have copied his idea with success..
me? ive just orderd 29er nokian W240s from the states..maybe too late for this year but at least have them.. at £90 a pair & possible import duty there not cheap but in relation to cost of bikes and continuing riding its a small price :-)coastkidFree Memberpugsley, bought for this…
this now doing alot of this…
and monkey…
coastkidFree Memberthink of cost in the wheelset instead of suspension..
tyre wear is quite good, nearly 1700 on rear and half worn..swapped to spare onto rear this now for grip but for beach smoother the better, interestingly theres a spider tread tyre by the same company inova who make the endos and they retail in the US for nearly half price around £40…i just love the fact that these bikes leave less of an imprint on soft ground than a human..how can anyone (rightous hardore rambler) argue about mtb erosion when you point that out? :D
coastkidFree Member£1500 will build you an all new parts one with a decent spec..sealed hubs,headset,XT/sram X7 gears.
around £800-£900 if you have a doner bike for gears, shifters, bars, stem, seat etc…
you need for a pugsley;frameset,rims,tyres,2 rear brakes/mounting brackets,100mm BB..
the BB is a big price difference, £40 for an isis type which i killed in 500 miles beachriding or £150 for a philwood square taper (dig out those old crank arms or go middleburn)
or go external BB 100mm complete crankset at around £240-£280(speedway,surly,raceface)coastkidFree Memberbiked into work every day on often untreated but ploughed back roads through this cold snap and lovin it…
-8 + winchill this morning..coldest yet..and a blizzard tonight!
deepest was 10-12" drifts one morning..passed dozons stuck cars..bicycle still moving!,folk at work ask did you really cycle in? i dont bother trying to explain…..
coastkidFree Memberno e in surly… :-)
love mine..big shortage of pug parts this now due to massive intrest in dubai for sand riding but there loads of other makes of parts if your prepared to order from the US,have a browse through this forum
oh there not just for snow either…despite what folk think or say..and a hell of alot of fun… :DcoastkidFree Member(big fat low press) tyres work just as badly as any other tyre.
loads better than a standard tyre!..ridden on frozen rutted iced roads last 3 weeks on endomorphs at 8-10 psi..took the reg bike out 3 days ago 30 mins after the pugsley and it was awful..front tucking on every ridge..fats float..and thats how they grip.. :-)
coastkidFree Membereric parsons alaskan adventure…
heres a real adventuremore details of… the lost coast expidition
coastkidFree Membereh… here i am,ive been riding solid last 3 weeks,i bought my pugsley for the beach but this winter has turned out a peach,is it worth it?..id say for sand a deft yes..for instance you can ride down murder hill at gullane!..(featured on BBCs coast..)for snow it depends..you can ride deeper snow easier than a normal bike and on ice its better as the tyres roll and flex over frozen ruts..in alaska/canada they ride snow mobile tracks usually in races which are already packed down..today the roads were all ploughed but not gritted…edinburgh council (and so also here in east lothian) has run out of grit..my mates a gritter…and it was excellent on hardpack, blazing the trail can be hard going and walking a 35 lbs bike in knee deep snow is alot harder than your average 25 lbs hardtail,i did a 2 hour ride around the black route at glentress last summer but it wasnt much fun on the rocky descents…i dont think were going to get this type of winter every year for most folk to need one but if like me you want to ride on the beach then id recommend one…it is also very good on places like the cheviots which can be very wet or my local lammermuir hills..anywhere its peaty and soft when wet,it dosnt cut up the ground like a normal mtb which is a good thing long term for the enviroment..,i cycled mine round harris in june and whilst not the best choice for tarmac was cool once on the beaches of scarista and luskyntyre..,one drawback is if like me your a bit low_key-avoid folk… it is an absolute people magnet and gets a bit tiring..ive got describing it down to about 10 secs now…read some more stuff on it here on my blog[/url]
im waiting on 50mm wide 29er rims to arrive from alaska for my karate monkey..with 2.5 wtb wierwolfs i should get a bit of float..something half way between a pugsley and a regular MTB..be interesting to see what there like..

recent film i madecoastkidFree Memberso far this year its been the year of surly pugsley`s endomorph tyre :-) 26" rim, near 29" outer tyre diameter..4" low pressure spread…and we just got a healthy dumping of snow again last night,im loving it…
i like 29er hardtails but 26" full suss for throwing around at trailparks..folk forget though its not about the bike……..coastkidFree Membertry 2.5 continetal DH tubes, ive done over 1600 miles with them no probs..nokians OK too…
folk have tried running endo`s tubeless but they always leak, even when coated with PVC..
yep as previously posted if you don ride what mainstream mags rate then folk on here get bitchy..funny thing is though when out riding (do they actually ride?) no one ever says anything to your face?,think the word is spineless…,
check out magic seaweed surf forum for some real dickhead forum users… :DcoastkidFree Memberi felt warm (-3 on coast!) watching this lot going for the new years day swim!
coastkidFree Membercant beat a hot brew on the trail…
got this flask from edinburgh bike co-op
mount proberly isnt up for serious offroad but ok for snow/beachriding…
mixed both flasks today though when down the beach! :-)
coastkidFree Memberits just the regular vista moviemaker i use, when uploaded to vimeo the quality is usually better…
coastkidFree Membersell it and buy a tachyon 2010 xc, i had a go pro,it died, bought the wide,it played up.i did get a refund…,tachyon support brilliant, instant (couple of hours) reply to any question..,i dropped one off back of motorbike at 60mph and it was fine!,you see a bit more distant views too with the 90 degree lense which is nice, heres a film i made at the weekend so you can see the quality.. lammermuirs snowride pt3 if you search through my films last few months you can see the film quality…i dont work for tachyon!,just impressed with there cameras and there service…
coastkidFree Membernice film, a wee x-up off that last mound would of looked cool…
coastkidFree Member53 miles of bone dry trails here..rideable 365 days a year :-)
seriously dont you live near the coast?,head for the beach, its frozen solid here this now so even if you dont have a fatbike you can ride the sand, not as corrosive as you imagine, use some drylube on your chain and stay out the salt water and a standard mtb will be fine :D
coastkidFree Memberi broke both wrists riding bmx in 1985…yes i had to get my arse wiped….we then wore wristwraps..a bit like the pro ones TN on about they were made for skaters and had no probs, kept wearing them after pins removed in 1990 for a few years..,my mate broke both wrists 2 years ago and uses they pro ones and reckons there the bizz…
