These sections of tree look a lot more substantial than would likely be moved by a couple of miffed walkers.

maybe an unhappy landowner then?… a few of those around here…

thats cheap…back in the good old days of the mid 1980s a good cruiser bmx was often £1500…just look at mtb prices then…£1800+ for a cannondale hardtail…remmember bmx was a big market but alot of small companys producing handmade frames by just a few welders per company in most instances…i raced in the mid 80s and bikes were around £1000+ and at 16 i was earning £58 a week…the new SE racing bikes now seem like a bargin ….

with the amount of edinburgh walkers i meet along the east lothian coastline who moan about mountainbikers (why do walklers all seem to be uneducated on the open access laws regaurding open access including bicycles?..) causing damage to the fragile soft peaty trails of the pentlands trails, some nazi reprisal trail boobytraps isnt suprising…
i stopped riding up there years ago when i saw the damage done from irresponsable riding in wet weather conditions and the glares from walkers…christorphine hill gets mentioned alot too…
seems a few are long term spoiling it for all and as any outdoors person knows walkers esp ramblers have the time and sway to get there voice heard…

i sold a kona cowan hardtail last year on flea bay and could of sold a dozon…just bought a steel hardtail humu humu what u callit steel hardtail thingy that had no offers for 5 days…wanted one of them for a while for a progect and it had a cheap buy it now so again happy to have a kona…taiwanese welders are some of the best in the bike industry so where there made dosnt matter..guess its marketing/magazine hype that makes people buy certain brands, kona have made some great bikes…

buy heavy duty hooks from screwfix, way cheaper than the hooks from bike shops online and being bigger and wider they also dont bend,
every 600mm you should have a roof joist, find the first one with a 2-3mm pilot drill,as mentioned hang one up one down and job done…

i rememmber reading the US dirtbike mag shootout between desert bikes a few years back..ktm 640 vs honda XR650..they tested both stock and tuned bikes (engine and suspension)and the XR had the better suspension (conventional) but dirtbikes do have mostly usd forks…i remmember a few years ago when racing where they changed back and forth…
i do know personally coventional fork seals are easier to change…
i still think mtb fork prices are a massive rip off… :o

massive differance in girls that bike and girls that dont do any other type outdoors activitys like walking, climbing, horse riding,kayaking,surfing..
my new girlfriend is dutch so grew up cycling-there national pastime…shes a NL bikepatrol officer (police woman) and blows me away on cycling fitness… drives a van converted to a camper, loves to winter bivvy, being outdoors whatever the weather, knows how to shoot a gun and is still a real woman with no butchness…though could proberly kick the shit out of most folk!!!before i met her i dated dozons of girls and a few long term but it never lasts past the period of a year or two because they didnt do outdoors hobbies and just didnt understand why…
it was only a matter of time before the relationships went south…
some people like that relationship where they do there own thing in hobbies, i want to share the views, trips, sunrises and sunsets…
i once thought id never meet a girl into the outdoors…
i advise all single guys/girls to hold out for that person the same as you…they do exist and are out there…

3 years ago i fractured my skull and punched a hole in my cheekbone at innerliethen wearing a giro fullface…it just wasnt tough enough for the impact…but if wearing an open face id proberly have been dead…it just scares me seeing folk with any type of open face doing narly stuff…i wouldnt wear a DH helmet again though if returning to DH…it would be a MX lid…sod the wieght, you see alot of riders wearing them, also notice the majority of pro BMXers wearing them too…

SUW is 265 miles…theres a guide book with enclosed sections of landrangers covering the route,it includes local history and info on views etc..i rode it in i think 1992,got the train from dunbar near its finnish down to stranraer via glasgow then 6 miles to portpatrick on road, took 5 days including the train journey down, from its end.
i remmember some of it was a bit grim going but i loved the isolation, i hardly passed any walkers till moffot onwards, where it also got better under foot/wheel, i only had a 4 mile ride home to dunbar from its end at cockburnspath where trains stop for edinburgh west or south to newcastle…i imagine its all mostly regraded and pathed now,it is all ridable from st marys loch to the coast anyway,

if you can find trailbike magazine (tbm)issue 85 sept,2002 from there back issues theres an article on someone i know who did the whole SUW in a single day on a motorcycle with a few diversions on other trails where nessecery (boggy sections etc..) to raise money for cancer (maggies centre edinburgh),took 14 hours (including a 255km road ride from the lothians)

its there for a quick grab of the camera!,i take lots of pics out riding and also that bike goes up the local hills so sometimes does a bit shouldering through the heather…if theres a mass buy from eric im after a seat bag for a sleeping bag..i can email him what i need, pay and he will put it in with the order…

i ended up buying a abus lock bag as in the above link, got it satuarday, its a well made wee bag..like there locks…the toptube straps were a bit long for the skinny steel frame so cut them down and with a lighter melted the ends to prevent fraying…the seat tube strap is perfect around the headset spacers, has an internal fully zelcro sealed pocket for lock keys ideal for a couple of £2 coins for "get you home food",
just got to watch the low zip hieght now when opening as upside down…with a seatbag with tube and tools, and pump and bottle on the frame its ideal for a couple of cereal bars and camera.. :-)

my epic designs frame bag dosnt rub on legs, keeps the wieght down low and balanced…but you cant shoulder the bike if heather louping etc…have a look at the handlebar and seatpost bags available from epic designs etc, maybe all you need to carry a bivvybag,3/4 mat, sleepingbag, with them and an allday backpack for a stove/food you could hump enough for 2-3 days without the framebag…

Very neat coastkid. How do you find the handling against a bare bike? Love the idea of getting all your heavy stuff down near the BB.

i have tools in the lower part then stove and food in upper if camping, bottle cage goes on seatpost…handles fine, stil flickable on tight trails..prefer it to a backpack for road/trails but if going riding where having to hike-a-bike up revines/heather hills etc..then use a karrimor daypack with camelback so can shoulder the bike,
for sewing up a bag DIY maybe those old singer machines would cope better?..built in britain and all that… :-)

i would recommend erics bags & gastank, around £150-£170 to the UK for both, very robust, waterproof unless submerged and i reckon will last alot longer than anything i could make..do you have an industrial sewing machine to sew a heavy duty YYK zip through cordura?

I'm sorry, but there's nothing you can say to convince me that those bikes will be anything other than awful to ride. [/quote
really?…lol…oh dear…so why are there massive sales now in america, mexico and lately dubai…UK will catch on in a few years when folk realise they can get out riding all year round,
owning both a KM and a pugsley i love them and deft the most fun bikes ive owned…salsa fork has a longer axle to crown than surlys fork,
pugsley fork is available non offset for use with a 100mm hub and a regular rim,47mm proberly narrowest you want to go on the rim for an endomorph…when you use this 100mm hub set up the tyre can be a squeeze past the front caliper…
a 29er with a fat front end flys on soft peaty trails or sandy stuff…not just better on snow…
also less footprint than a human…something alot of mtbr`s dont seem to care about but should riding in sensitive areas,

i bought an epic design frame bag and large gas tank, cost here to the UK around £180…never looked back, love cycling without a camelback on so found it great, attention to detail and quality superb, was bought for a surly pugsley 18" medium frame but also fits my 18" karate monkey so will proberly fit mosy medium reg mtb frames ok…
perfect for a weekend bikepacking holding stove and food and camera with bag and bivvy and thermarest on racks..
it has been waterproof so far too unless underwater…
erics stuff often gets reviewed as the best and after a years use i agree :-)
