cant say my surly KM is rough around the edges…welds and chum red paint is superb, aint the lightest but for a (now old school 29er?) workhorse it go`s like the clappers and leaves alot of 26"ers  and f&f around £330
swift has a nice colour to it though :o

if they stand up to beach riding and the odd dip in sea water then they will last anywhere!,

11 speed going on my xc hardtail when they arrive… will never have derailiers again on a hardtail…useless in long grass in summer, clogged and jumping in winter…
but i dont race and im not wieght concious with builds,

Wedge packs that you put in the join of the seat and top tube

On my pearly white Courier for shouldering it up stupidly steep hills on Lakes epics.

    [misty-eyed] Those were the days… [/misty-eyed]
one of these tool kits on my MF courier which i thought was so cool with plastic rear wheel disc!, i had bio pace chainrings too and afyer market wheelset which had suntour large flange hubs… a sought after rariety by the retro brigade nowadays..

inbetween skye and torridon check into applecross campsite/hotel for a night and ride the trail out and back from the church at applecross to kenmore,(cafe at kenmore) stunning singletrack… not to mention the bonkers road over the bealach na ba (pass of the cattle) from nr kishorn to applecross-the highest tarmac road in britain…also a nice trail from the applecross church to sands-the place where that monty bloke stayed…

That bike looks fun. Where else do you ride?
anywhere hard going on a regular bike al!, mostly though the coastline of east lothian though have been over to harris and lewis twice, cheviots was good too…anywhere its wet and nonsticky ie no clay… so soft going peaty ground and soft sand its ideal…
steven will try to re arrange sunday and maybe set out to meet up..will get back to you

hi steven, i got the newphews to entertain sunday morning but maybe along beach late PM…,
if your coming over lammerlaw from carfrae mill you can cut through yester estate from longyester into gifford then the right of way to bolton then from haddington up the trail through the roadside woods of the plantains up the garltons and up to barny mains radio masts, then east down the garltons ridge road to athelstaneford then to kilduff and down to drem, then cut through drem (ww2)airfield to fenton barnes and a half mile by road to dirlton, head to dirlton church-up from the church is some white gates where a tidy trail takes you down to yellowcraigs carpark…i need to buy a garmin! :o

i imagine a regular 73mm BB would be ok if extending a bike as long as a BD,here is the chain clearance on my pugsley with the 100mm BB and alfine hub,its about 11mm with a huge beast of a chain,be more with a 9spd chain, and the front ring could also go on the outside giving more if say for a cargo bike out back,

with a straight or flat oval extension the cranks should clear as the wheel is far enough back, maybe need a 100mm BB if continuous tubes run from BB to rear drop outs, i want one for humping firewood off the beach :o

Would it cope with gravel tracks (sustrans route) for my commute?

I'm becoming quite concerned at STW – of course it will be fine. It's a big sturdy cargo bike with wide tyres..!

coastkid – that fatbike conversion is a real beaut! Got any more info or just the pic?
    appears made by bango cycles…
    i just did a quick search on the fat bike forum on mtbr and found the thread with the link to the guys flickr page :o;
    check it out!
    big dumb pug[/url]

heres one of the set. shows how the rear end is done, wheel is 17mm offset like a pugsley, maybe mail the guy for info?

i have this pic of a stretched fatbike with extracycle kit but afraid no history, you will need a 100mm BB to allow a chainstay to take a 4" tyre for chain clearance,

being a pugsley owner i can recommend endomorph tyres for soggy wet peat, not much good on sticky mud as the tyres then clog and are awful but on peat there amazing and leave little damage like regular tyres that just cut the soft peat up…
