the Lizardskin neoprene fork gaitors are long enough for 5" travel forks,
i use them every winter, but always take them off once home and wash and rise them with the hose and hang to dry, those pikey forks are 05 and never been serviced except for a TF tune 4 years ago. i think its faulty mtb`s not having gaitors and needing serviced yearly, all part of the marketing con! :o

read somewhere its about £475 for the 11speed hub and about £50 for the shifter, should be good though :o
Filthy if you get a 8speed i would recommend a Nexus 22tooth for the hub,im running 20/32 and 1st isnt low enough for sand dune duties,
alfine sprockets available in 18&20 tooth, Nexus in 20/22t, there the same sprockets except for the plastic gaurd on the Alfine,
hope to have the 11speed and belt drive on my pug next year :o

surly pugsley for the beach and goofing around on :o

i think its 69% of the UK coastline is here in Scotland, but England and Wales has some stunning coast,as an island nation who does alot of coastal activitys there is very little interest in cycling on beaches, despite the surly pugsley being available in the UK from any ISIN dealer bicycle shop, the basic kit costs about £1000 plus regular bars, stem, seat, gears etc…
compared to a very good full suss bike a pugsley at around £2000 complete with a decent build is not too bad, and you get year round riding when trails get too wet to ride without damage, also there great for peaty terrain.but they dont like clay!, on sand they leave less of a footprint than a human!,so who can argue about that?!,
the magazine had one in a bikeporn feature back in 1996 when they were released and were going to do this and that on it but it just dissapeared.
im doing all the Southern Upland Way bike packing this winter which will show how versatile a bike it is on soft ground in winter..i know its gonna be cold at nights!, be nice to see more sold but for now i guess its a bit niche!,there are 2 in Scotland!
knowen as fatbikes they are getting massive in the US,
for those interested have a browse through the MTBR Fatbike Forum…

i rode my Karate monkey framset with its ridgid fork for a year and it wasnt that bad on short rides, after 4 hours or so and the aches set in,a high bar set up with ergo grips helped alot, when i went looking at 29er forks they were so expensive, usually £100+ more for 29" TO 26" for most rock shok/fox options…then got a 100mm suntour epicon 29er fork for £190 from CRC,
its not as good as say a reba but the bike is way better for it,as are my shoulder blades and wrists on big days out…i think these steel bikes look alot better fully ridged but are maybe alot more usable with a suspension fork, alot of folk reckon carbon ridged 29er forks are better than steel so an option there for you to look at (on one?)
oh one one do cheap rims, infact they do cheap frame and forks worth a look as you have found, :o but i do believe riding a ridged bike will sharpen your basic riding skills as having to pick lines etc instead of ploughing into stuff, have fun :o

    good mix with Torness etc..
i wondered about submitting an article to the mag, heading up to Sandwood Bay for a weekend next month so maybe do something,it is after all described as the most scenic and remote beach in Britain…aswell as the longest drive being up in the Scottish NW! :o

not yet but going to soon with a spare hub on a kona Humu frame Once i machine 2mm off of each spacer to fit the 130mm dropouts!, the splines on most of my hubs are marked but so far hasnt caused any problems, though i will try and find a wide based SS kit to reduce any wear, any SS conversion kit recomendations from anyone?,

as with all the good comments about them above,no pinch flats yet with Twinrails or Ardents, never had rear bearings fail on pro 2s yet, even after 2000miles on one used for beachriding, fronts seem to go quite often but cheap to replace, thumbs up here :o

this winter we hope to take 5 days/4 nights and it will be short daylight hours so will be interesting!,good thing is the train down to Stranraer saves car pick up etc…

with the lock out cap removed and stem removed just gently tap the hex head top with a rubber mallet, there are 2 sealed bearings in your headset cups, proberly the lower will stay on the fork stantion and the top bearing will stay in the top cup,are you removing the fork to service or replace with a regular fork?,if service best send it away for a service, :o

i stopped looking at the invoices 2 years ago when they topped 15 grand and in that time (since day dot) only one order has had one wrong item needing returned,if i lived in town i would use a LBS but every delivery out to the sticks is never more than 3 days, always get an email if something is out of stock, always cheapest way to build a bike with CRC, lately also had great service with price shaggers on ebay…what a name though!

the post is a few pages down but heres a link to the full story and just how good a hammock is for conditions like this, i use a hammock, bivvy and small tent, all great, but all in different places, hammock is great in wet, midge infested woods,

i have epicons on a Karate Monkey and they have been fine, same prob with the axle, just using an allen key to poke through, using a hope pro2 which i just bought the 15mm spacer kit for…local machine shop will knock out a 16mm internal diameter hub spacer for a few beer tokens when i get time to drop the 20mm spacer off…but no big deal, forks feel just like reba`s, with alloy steerer and stantions there a bit of a bargin at £190, done about 600 miles in last month with them and no probs, air leaks etc…
29er to me is just another different bike in the collection, dont really find it worse at anything though, just go ride your bike :o
