hopefully the price of the new complete Salsa Mukluk -around £1500 once here in the UK will temp more folk to get a fatbike, great when the trails get soft as less damage, those 100mm rims look the bizz epicyclo :o

4.5 psi, bloomin heck! I take it you just blow it up with your mouth like a big balloon then?
with 4" tyres (endo/larry) 5 psi equates to about 100 pumps with a top peak mountain morph :o i ride sand at 9 psi front 8 psi rear, for trails etc 12 front and 13 rear as under 12 psi front and steering gets a bit wierd, :o

Fitting wider rims will proberly make more difference to you tyre spread than actual tyre width,if on a budget look at Kris Holm 29er rims at around £40, liking the interest in surly tyre front end set ups :o
i recommend fat front and rear :o

also owning an epic framebag and gastank i use a sealine bag with handle threaded through the seat post for my micro tent or Henessy hammock,

have a look here
but……im looking into this as a part time er pastime…buying an industrial sewing machine and making my own frame bags, handlebar bags, seatbags, and map holders, but it is a long way off from selling them…
i have to make them and test them and give some folk some to test as they have to be tough…really tough as you have to offer a guarantee before even considering selling them but its something i believe there is a market for in the UK,
i hope to get things rolling over the winter months and will use my blog and youtube films to promote bikepacking,
this form of mtb travel is bound to increase as its cheap…and fun :o
heres my last trip, only 1 night instead of 2 but alot of fun despite the weather, BikingThe Kintyre Way

heres one who wont be going to the new cafe if the Hub dont get it and some cheapy crap food folk do…
the girls made GT for the FC,look at what they have done for getting youngsters into mtb, a DH world juinior champion came out of the Hub,
and Teenys grub is ace,
also heard the top level of the new centre was originaly going to be the cafe and now its going to be the FC offices, typical!,

framebags are made by epic designs in Alaska and cost around £175 posted to UK,now renamed revelate designs after a near lawsuit by specialized!,
excellent quality, waterproof zips on frame bag and keeps gear wieght low down, tarmac coast road was steep out of Carradale!, i slept in woods above saddle castle on the last climb before section 5 begins, brillant long descent from windfarm to carradale, like to ride it in the dry!,
alot of the forest road climbs were in the granny ring but the isolation was brilliant, not like the west highland way!, lovely part of our country,

get OS Landranger sheet 51 & 52,
alot of landy track stuff SE of loch tay over to to the Sma Glen near Crieff (sheet 52) an unsigned tarmac road SE from Kenmore to Almaree has these tracks either side up top,if weather clear fantastic views up there, sorry no garmin but the landy tracks are on the maps, others may know more descent trails :o
oh north side of Loch Tay is forest and quite steep so bound to be some good paths there, maybe signed,

cynical-al, all you want to know about the pugsley here :o
started a blog when i bought it,search through the labels…
heres a pugsley complimation film i made a few months back,
it does open up a whole new riding area, bit like that first mtb, seeing just where you can go,have said before there not very good on sticky mud like clay but peat ground like the cheviots, pentlands its great,is a bit more effort climbing but keeps you fit!, i bought it for the beaches here in east lothian and love it,the new salsa Mukluk looks like it will be real good, fatbikes are getting real big in the USA,alot of intrest, esp with inline wheeled frames allowing 29er wheel swaps,

Maybe if there was a cheaper alternative to a chairlift / gondola.

Maybe using a big offroader and a trailer…

The Hub did this at inners then stopped it in the end as non profitable due to repair costs to 4x4s taking a beating on the road, fuel and drivers wages..pity as it was alot better than faffing around with lorrys and coaches

Out in the sticks here in East Lothian i see loads, not all these daily!

working on a golf course it is basicly a wildlife reserve with alot of the above plus;
newts,
moles (arrrrghhh!)
shrews,
on and around the ponds,
eels
little grebe,

water vole,
mallard,
teal,
waterhen,
curlew,
visiting geese-pinkfeet and greylag,
family of swans on the ponds,
tawny owls in wood,
partrage
eider ducks
pheasants etc….
adjoinging fields of cows and sheeps

Salsa have just released a fatbike too :o called the Mukluk,
lots of bottle mounts to match there enabler fork, and very clever rear end supposedly which allows fitment of either inline and offset wheels using spacers…inline allows stronger 29er wheels, offset allows hub gears,

ive ridden a genuine original Pederston!, frame was designed to absorb bumps through its many long tubes, a friend in west lothian has several genuine pederstons and some modern replicas, makes a jones bike stone age, google him and read his story, quite a mad designer but genuis and way ahead of his time :o

for a million quid the forest road could be a tarred dual public road then we could use our own cars :o
seriously though it would be great to have it esp for young talented riders as a training base, were better at downhill then football in this country!,but it seems unlikely due to costs…but good on folk who want to campain and rally support for it,
a granny ring only costs £22 in the meantime and you can cycle up almost anywhere for free, :o

those new massive wide bars must be useless in tight woods!
i cut my bars down for x-ups on jumps so i find being broad shouldered they take the brunt through tight trails…but its a hoot when you find the flow between the tree`s

hi there,as GW says, lots of green lanes between small woods, alot of the John Muir Way is nice and scenic, esp south of NB Law,trails along river tyne east of Hailes castle too,
its about a 50 min drive from North Berwick to Tweed Vally for much fun and daftness :o
i dont have a garmin or would send you routes, have a browse through my blog
recommend a walk up NB Law and Traprain too for views, both ridable down by bike too

heres how to do it!
you can use the strong plastic reflector clamps that come on new bikes for bracket`s, used them for bottle mounts, and flasks last winter,

also wall mounting clamps for electric cable, again you get different sizes,
here i used them to mount front panniers on the commuter,

theres always a way! :o
