coast kid – what size axel of square taper BB do you run in yours

will i be ok with a 146mm axel – with an adjustable chainline for an SS/hub gear set up

yep 146mm is correct, check with Brixton Cycles, thats where i ordered mine, there is a choice of 2 different insert cups for the drive side, one is collared for an E-type mech and one with no collar for single speed,

he did capture something right though…

A remarkable phenomenon occurs as you drink a single malt. The later into the wee hours of the morning it gets, and the more that the bottle is emptied, the less exaggerated and more down-to-earth the stories become. Amazing!

now get my kicks and grins on a Surly Pugsley, why? cause it goes everywhere abeit at a slower pace! but makes me feel good about life and that cant be a bad thing…hope you find contentment and happyness :o

this year is the 1st in many i havent been up to Applecross for a long weekend
the track from Inverbain isnt really ridable up the way to the junction, so best head over from Kenmore, across the Penulsia is an undulating trail of some super sweet buff singletrack… :o

Also do the short but lovely trail from near Applecross church along above the coast to Sand- a small beach, its where that Monty bloke stayed in his 1st tv series beside a submarine monitering station

heres a film from Applecross to Sand then around the coast road to return from Kenmore across the Penulsia, one of my favourite trails and nearly always you meet no-one
not riding the usual mtb as had returned from beachriding on the Western Isles

think with a narrow rim the wall could roll off or the handling may feel (even more) wierd!

They might if they knew about them. There must be a few tall people (even in Dundee ) and the coastline offers some great opportunities and you would barely upset the greenkeepers on the golf courses !

i ride mine about the Golf courses all the time
but i am a head Greenkeeper
everyone who see s it wants to know what is, then wants a shot, then asks where you got it, then they cant believe you just cant walk into a shop and order a complete one!
anyway one way or another there WILL be a UK fatbike frameset and parts available here in the UK within a year or two…

love my Pugsley and Karate Konkey, both the best fitting bikes ive had, esp the KM and for the frameset price its very underated, both do the job nice, free hip flask with the pugsley aswell
also have an On One, love it too

proberly be best with a 47mm rim for a surly tyre woody, they seem to work ok with them, and theres quite a pysical size between an endo tyre and a 3" tyre because of the wall height,

    coastkid
    Free Member

woody, sorry i have been out (biking!)
the chainline on a pugsley is ok in the lowest gear,

im building up a Kona Humu frame as a multi wheel bike,it takes a 3" rear tyre so ideal,
the frame was £75 and the total build will be £500 max
bars ,stem, seat etc already lying about,
will have non offset pugsley forks regular pro2 hubs and 47mm Kris holm rims,
i have the rear hub and mechs and shifters sans pugsley now it is Alfined,
so i will run a 3.0 Vredestien Black Panther up rear with an Endo front for the beach and other soft stuff, can run it 2×9 gearing using a DMR chain tug with mech hanger and wont run a front mech, just pull the chain over!, and with another chain and SS kit i can run SS,
also can fit with ice spikes if we get another proper winter or just regular mud tyres,
wont be quite as good as an endo rear but will be fun and folk can ride the pugsley on the beach if there interested in maybe buying a fatbike :o

Woody, i run 37mm rims with Ardents or 2.55 WTB weirwolves on my 29er and kinda know what your on about,
if i didnt ride the beach with the pugsley then the 29er would be fine except going riding soft (sensitve area) trails in wet weather,
if your looking for a semi fat 29er then 50mm speedway Una rims with big tyres would be a cheap option. cheaper but heavier would be 47mm Kris Kolm 29er rims,

    coastkid
    Free Member

needs a rear offset if using a 135mm wide hub and a 100mm BB for chain clearance on a rear 4"endomorph.
on the pugsley its the same for the front to allow spare rear for emergency, not really needed here in the UK unless you want multiple SS options ,though i like it as running an Alfine incase i kill it,
    see here;

Note surly sell a regular 100mm (non offset) fatbike fork if you want a lighter regular or dynamo front hub

    coastkid
    Free Member

still think a nice cheapish priced steel frame would be ideal for the UK market
offset will keep hub gear options available and regular hub prices down for building…though you still have to buy offset rims so no trails rims,
need a British rim manufacturer aswell now :o

lightest 100mm rims i have read about were the Speedway Una which did come in 50,70 and 100mm, all drilled, and high quality. una rims only available in 50 and 70mm now.
my pugs rims are the heavy 36h marges but im running conti 2.5 tubes ,scrader valve for a spot of stans juice for hawthorn hedges around here,
once you ride one of these beasts on soft terrian you will find it just dosnt feel its weight…dunno how but it just dosnt!,
oh heres a 31 lbs fatbike with 100mm rims for the weight weenies but being a moots proberly one off rims :o

i used to use itunes alot and would back up buy burning to disc.
Then friend stanfree sent me this link; youtube to MP3 converter

all you do is copy the URL of a film/music video on youtube or vimeo or my space etc…onto this site and it downloads the audio, then you click on convert to MP3 and it uploads to your downloads on your pc…then you just transfer it to your music files…free tunes! :o

i have a BOB which i mostly use for hauling free firewood home from work and shopping.
Havent toured with it yet but like the idea of it esp for winter camping to carry lots of warm clothing!, its a great piece of kit.
Maybe use it this winter for a planned Southern Upland Way ride over a weeks hols…

also use it for chainsaw transport for trail clearing

an old enduro motorbike trick we used is cover the area thats bent with soap and heat on a gas stove untill the soap turns black then with a pair of welding gloves to protect your hands bend it back or if needed as how you said with a pipe..it does work :o

quite a few interested folk then!,
seems the collective feeling is something readily available in the UK,
at a sensible price to afford yet another bike!
    off the shelf/no parts sourcing,
and 29er wheel swap out for 2 bikes in one is most folks ideal…
    thanks folks :o

Still got to say I don't get it. I've yet to find anything other than 8" plus of snow that I can't ride on a normal bike with normal 2.3s?

once he has fat tyre`s front and back you will get it
you wont cycle out here easy on a reg bike :o nope just grind to a halt

or places like here in winter without causing damage

and a regular bike dont float either

    BUT WHY?!

Because custom made rigid steel fixie mountain bikes with mary bars just aren't niche enough any more. It would appear fat bikes are the very latest thing in niche.
its the areas you can go go thats actually niche :o
