Whats not to like? its a trail centre, all easy riding then one section of trail making you work the bike, so work it :-)
If your doing the full red then just ride up the road 1/4 mile before Magic Mushroom :-) hardly a hassel to do

Heres a film how its done from a couple of years ago, jump all the tree roots, it is faster and easier, mate in front was an ex Scottish champ and makes it look easy, no way could keep with him

Thanks ontor! , explains the P on the light bracket :-)
Tyres are Michelin “Made in England”

£25 – £85 for 50s bikes? Thats cheap, will not get one around Edinburgh for that price!, must be the cafe culture

EDIT; just found this linky that mentions the Trusty name;

Prob pre 1955 with that full chain cover, clean the rear hub, it will be the model year after what date is stamped on the hub.
Being a male frame it is worth more. Armstrong Manufacture of course makes it a member of Vickers Armstrong Ltd. so prob worth £2-300.
I have a Raliegh of same vintage, its a 1954 sports, sold from Borthwick cycles, Victoria Street, Edinburgh :-)

Wherever I put the bikes they seem to get in the way. I might have to bring them into the house ! Mrs Davesport’s going to be awful cross

That where i keep the good ones… :-)

Luckily my folks who live nearby are now too elderly to go up into their loft, made a great long term storage area for old stuff

Living nearby, over the hill at East Fortune i am always busy, doing my own stuff on the coast, riding with friends around here and have my fingers in loads of other pies to get involved, but happy to do a blog post if it helps spread the word as i get loads of views from local folks, many have kids that cycle…

I WILL fill in a questionare this week and spread the word,

Good luck with the progect! :-)

Are you and your fat (Riding) buddies coming to the Fatbike meet in October Stu? be great to meet up with you guys :-)

coastkid

Owning two fatties (Pugsley & Moonlander) and a ridged 29er you could go for a half way house and build a semi fat 29er

Karate Monkey 001 by coastkid71, on Flickr

Build some 47mm Kris Holm unicycle 29er rims and fit some 2.35 GEAX Gato tyres, but you will need 36 hole hubs for that build…

If you have 36h hubs then it will cost you £110 for rims, £38 for tyres plus wheel build (maybe spokes)

I find my semi fat 29er is more fun on fast trails than a full fatty if you up the speed a bit and get out the saddle and work the bike, but not as good if it goes all soft/sandy, or very soft Peat…

Also 3.7″ tyres start to go out of control if you start to pump a fatbike hard in berms etc… folk that say they don`t do not ride fast enough to discover this – why i have only ridden Glentress twice in 5 years of riding fattys, there are better horses in the stable for this type of riding

They can start to rebound uncontrolably – i find it quite amusing personaly :D ride down a long set of steps like in Edinburgh and you get this happening!

Go on the MTBR fatbike forum and mention the above and guys defend their fatbikes as “the best ever all round bikes” and get real angry (esp the yanks  but i think its horse for courses

47mm wide rim up front will give a nice round profile to a 3.7″ Surly Larry/Nate tyre and be fine on regular trails and ideal if your not heading down the beach, or want to wait another 40 years for another apocalypse Artic winter (fingers crossed though) :-)

You deft wont bend one riding trails, i have some Kris Holm 47mm rims (29er) and they are proper bombproof :D

OCD; filmed with a Go Pro, bubble lense cover is scratched hense the funny light glows so i need to get a replacement!…

Only let down of the 180 degree fish eye lense is distant views are er.. distant!

New Go Pro 2 with 120 degree lense setting should be better :-)

I just use a gorrila pod, chest cam mount, or mono pod to mount the camera

Had a shot of one at Glentress a few years back and i liked it, make a great fun/thrash bike with 2.5″ tyres (loads of clearance)
Bit heavy but you will prob never break it! :-)

Prob main advantage is strenght of wheels and luggage rack mounts at a price of weight and speed to a CX bike :-)

Great vid coast kid, loved the singletrack section at the start. looked well fast

Hi Paul, hope your well mate :-)
Trail at start is section of the John Muir way, 1/4 mile from home,
Full lenght of section here; starts slow then gets quicker, is ace at night :-)

The twin rails are a bit heavy esp with stans juice also in the tubes but they roll very well. They are ideal for winter here where i will be mostly commuting then riding rough roads and gravel tracks. will not be near much deep mud on them.
They give a real comfy ride with the big volume :-)

Squidlord running 55 psi yest but with pressures dropped it should be fine on rougher stuff, i will find out soon :-)

andyh2; the bike is very similar to the KM and it is the wheels/tyres originaly fitted to that bike. headtube is higher for the drop bars and riding on the hoods is real comfy, and feels quicker on the road with the drops into a breeze :-)

Are you a sit down type of rider? or out the saddle rider on twisty trails?

Maybe best wait until the Surly Krampus is available to test ride and what its drive chain/tyre clearance will be like – prototypes clearance looked a bit too tight for UK mud.
If you do not plan to ride soft sand on the coast then it may be a better bike for you and it will be more lively on twisty trails.

Fatbikes are fun, but… if you ride near sticky clay and clag the tyres remember you will have like 3 times the weight in mud than a normal bike to cycle/push :D

Or… get the Surly rabbit hole rims and 3″ Knard tyres and have a 2nd wheelset for your fatty  :-)

Karate Monkey is a brill frameset and is/has been under rated by new more hype stuff over the years but seem to still have a loyal following of happy owners. It still does what it did way back when invented about 6 or 7 years ago, er that is ride trails ok :-)
It is strong, comfy and should last years being 4130 cro mo.
I run mine 2×9 and ridged after a brief try of a 100mm fork, 47mm rims and now 2.35 Gato tyres at 20 PSI, a kind of semi fat bike but the set up suits the trails where i live. I love it and don`t ride it enough, you should be able to pick up a second hand frameset cheapish but i would go for the new baby blue colour :-)

These GATO Geax have been great for the money at £18 each (wire bead but weight not a concern) :-)

20 psi on 47mm rims but still ok on road :-)

Don`t you folk ride at night all year round? or do you have to be home before a curfew/ turn into a pumpkin?

Even in southern Scotland its dark enough in June by 10 pm in woods for lights,

Know what you mean though, tis the time to get lit up… :-)
Now sunset is 7.30pm here so you get a daylight, sunset, and night trails into a 3 hour local ride :-)
