Hi holmesy :-)
I usually am out on Tues and Thurs evenings but on a weeks Hols now so regular plans on hold with planned day trips/weather depending further afield…Yodagoat is well known for hanging around a Longniddry carpark on dark evenings where there is a lot of reputed dodgy goings on wi blokes
Stay east of the No 1 Longniddry car park and you will be fine
There was one evening i rolled down the hill to Gullane car park with both magicshines on full bore and there was a group of cars and a blond girl was on a car bonnet and loads of blokes in a queue 8O
Rather have saddle sores than the clap so kept grinding the pedals :mrgreen:Will give you a shout if out any evenings next week :-)
coastkidFree MemberSUW: Melrose to Blue Cairns to Lauder and up to Twin Law cairns and descend to Westruther would be nice on a cx bike, all signed :-)
My brother in law just ran the St Cuthberts way in 2 days (fit bugger!) and reckoned not worth the bother on a bike with the styles and stairs… Holy Island is we have just found out off limits to bicycles on the surrounding sands with a SSSI (oops )
coastkidFree MemberTotal was i think £26 for torch (£14!) charger and two batteries,
not had a meltdown yet with the charger! :-)
Joystick helmet mount was £17A great wee light and has been reliable :-)
coastkidFree MemberYou have a good wife there indeed! :-)
You do indeed get rollers for fatties :-)
coastkidFree MemberJust needs drops Mike to make it proper
Canny imagine you in drain pipes…
coastkidFree MemberIf you ever felt the weight of a pugsley frame set then you would be suprised how light it is for a steel frame set and will find they are light enough and have all what your looking for.
My pugsley was 34 lbs when built with heavy 36h undrilled rims…
Folk get too hung up on weight on fat bikes – er they are fat bikes right? :-) a few pounds here and there won`t make much differance to 99% of us normal folk :-)
Mukluk is nice esp the green model but boy are the head tubes/top tubes high on them.
Did like the Mk1 straight tube 907, felt nice when i rode the black one during the STW article and it had good frame bag room.
A pugsley has the best 3×9 chain/tyre clearance of the 3.7″ tyre fatties. It will take any drive chain set you want and has loads of rack mounts. Its the oldie in the pack but still a good un… I would buy another again if i had too with out looking around at others.
The new red frame set looks real nice :-)coastkidFree Memberglasgowdan – Member
It’s not even the bikes, it’s the trails. Dry dry dry. I don’t remember last time I rode somewhere like that. Damn UK. Looks like so much fun on those bikes in the dust, bags of grip where you want it, bags of gravelly sliding when you want it.We have dry trails here in East Lothain all year round :-)
sand based dirt above the coast that is free draining. We Had 2″ of rain on Tuesday untill 3pm then skies cleared and i went out for 2 hours and was home near spotless, not meaning to brag like :D
Oh we have jump trails too if you know where to look too :wink:coastkidFree Membermattjg – Member
Not seen any video of people riding them uphill. Do the cool kids dump them at the bottom and buy another at the top?POSTED 1 HOUR AGO #
Those early Klunkerz were ridden over Crested Butte at 12,700 ft  some of those hippes were race snakes :D
coastkidFree MemberMine was one of these Schwinn SS cruisers with the tyres, bars, stem saddle and pedals swapped out with stuff for £20 ebay/found in parts bin, and way cheaper :-)
Sure some googling will find them in UK :-)
coastkidFree MemberThe UK Fat Bike website is now on proper url :-) still loads to fill in but getting there…
coastkidFree MemberJohn your bike looks massive on you! :D
I too am 5`11 and would deft opt for a Medium having ridden Andys large Mukluk :-)coastkidFree Memberwwaswas you got a link to that bike? looks ace :D
just needs the wooden frame box full of tattie mashers
coastkidFree MemberClunker?
Built a Klunker
After seeing this film a year ago i built one from a free frameset i was given, the same as in the film…
Retro build done for £60, frame found in skip at Spean Bridge :-)
old MTB rims, rear relaced on coaster hub, MX vintage bars off eBay, BMX chain, stem, bear traps NOS off eBay, had old DH 2.35 tyres, fun to ride :-) still to master it and takes a bit skill to ride at speed :lol:coastkidFree MemberGuys the UK Fatbikes website is up and running on a temp URL but you can come over and sign up and say hello, most of you i see have already :-)
40 chubby riding cyclists today :D
coastkidFree MemberNever get bored of them thats how :-)
Oldest pugsleys are only 6 years old now…
I won`t be selling any sorry, just adding to the fleet :-)coastkidFree MemberWhen i moved i spent all my money on a new man cave instead of inside the house  got to get prioritys right…
Home is where the heart is.. aye… in the man cave :-)
Get the house finished one day….
I still keep the good bikes in house though, be wrong not to… :-)
coastkidFree MemberGreat news your doing the 9zero7 now for the UK Tim :-)
Its a great option to the Surly or Salsa options here in the UK. They are all great bikes :-)
Dragged out my Moonlander today as mostly been riding the Pugsley with friends lately. Take this beast into the right enviroment (for myself that is really soft sand on the coast) and it really rewards :-)

9zero7 need a UK distributer!
Mate Si texted me today to say he has got a domain name secure for a UK Fatbike website!. It will be up and running hopefully next week.
Been chatting with him a few days about this. Seeing as things are going to get real popular soon what with the new found interest in the xc riding side of things and Surly Krampus 29= 3″ coming soon it would be good to get it all under one roof as some folk do not use Facebook and Singletrack forum or MTBR fatbike forum. Often posts dissapear off the front quickly on many sites. So, a hub for UK fatbike owners with threads for all our types of riding.
A forum only viewable by accepted folk so it does not run into a mass of pages.
We can use it to organise the Gatherings, bivvi weekends, day rides etc…
Also be sticky (fixed) threads for all our UK riding;
xc, beach, snow (prey again!), racing, builds threads, a What part threads for new builds etc, fat curious folk, Ride report thread, swap/sell thread etc…
Be what we make it…. -:)
let you know when its up and running…coastkidFree Memberuphillcursing – Member
Coastkid, loved the Cheviot video. Made me very homesick indeed. I think one of these bikes would make year round Cheviot rides far more practical. Not that I have ever ridden one I just imagine the times I have had the front front wheel sinking in bogs.As first few seconds here shows sometimes even a fat bike won`t help you on the Cheviots
coastkidFree MemberDid you shoot any film Mike? as the light looked amazing this evening…
Well it did from the Western Hospital while visiting my dad :?
I too saw that cloud while driving into town and it had a weird rainbow spectrum through it – though that may be he trippy sunglasses i got from “Pie in the Sky” :D
coastkidFree MemberI did 56 miles / 8 hour ride on my Pugsley on the Cheviots a few years back. If you have ridden up there then you will know the conditions are soft grassy paths with wet holes.
I rode the same route on a Cannondale xc bike 3 weeks later in same dry (for Cheviots) conditions and it near broke me, the Dale weighed 22 LBS, the pugsley near 38 lbs… weight did not matter, the effort to ride over/through peat and stone flagstones was a lot easier with the big low pressure tyres…Here is the film, yep i made it from Jedburgh up Dere Street across to Cocklawfoot and up onto Cheviot on a heavy beast designed for snow and sand and it ate the miles up :-)
Again here on the Applecross Penulsia a 32 mile days ride on the pug…
After watching this we need to do a fatbike ride up Cheviot and go visit the WW2 B17 wreck on Brendon cragg, not been there since early 90s :-)
coastkidFree MemberAll of the above…
+ beware the moon, keep off the moor…If you meet a load of panic stricken squadies your screwed…
Or see trees flattened by something huge coming towards you…
Pedal like crazy!
coastkidFree MemberI just blogged the Cranes Book last week; Bicycles up Kilimanjaro
:-)
coastkidFree MemberIf all the Edinburgh/Lothian fatbikes turn up in April 2013 for “Forth Fat” Gathering here in East Lothian then there will be nearly 20 local fatbikes alone
The fun bit on the coast is all the stuff between the flat smooth stuff and the trails there and back home…
Over 6000 miles now on the pugsley and 5 years old next month :-)If its all just flat sand then get the bike on the back wheel
Roll on the Apocalypse or next moon visit :-)
coastkidFree MemberNext thing you will know there will be a meet for these things…

Here’s mine.
Drove past the old school house in the summer and saw that bike parked outsideThe owner no doubt inside passed out and intoxicated… :-)
coastkidFree Memberdevs go for the black Ops over standard pugs then, for the wider rims, and the thumbies which do not pack in when layed down into soft sand as can happen to trigger shifters, the black Ops have these fitted :-)
coastkidFree MemberWas gonna look for a pic but its quicker to post a film from the latest build…
coastkidFree Member2013 Pugsleys complete are a good bike now with a few good upgrades been done; Microshift Thumbies (same as the Moonlander), Ultra front hub (push in spacers like Hope) and D type mech does not collect as much mud as older E types
2013 Mukluk looks good too
Both i would say equal and depends on sizing, tastes in style, steel or alloy frame.
The pugs LX rear hub will eventully need swapped out if you head for the coast or are regular swamp riding,
Mukluk freehubs (Formula) have failed too and a mate had a few issues to get another and had to go Stateside for it…
Both stock bikes are a hoot to own and ride :-)
Only go for the Moonlander for mission specific riding, for me that is very wet soft sand, rock riding on the coast where it really shines and is a whole new level of float
coastkidFree MemberMan cave spec essentials;
At least 30 Sqm (maximum without planning consent)
Wash bay out front (still to be roofed) with with hot and cold with drain,
log shed ensuite (see below)
Wood burning stove
4 sets of twin fluorescent lights from er… NHS
Solid bench
Big vice
loads of big tools and dangerous power tools for building, bending and making things
Sofa
Beer Fridge
CD player/stereo
Lap top
Loads of bikes to tinker with..Sorted…
Still keep all the bling in the house though… :-)
coastkidFree MemberFixed bikes since a nipper :-)
Old 3 speeds, then choppers and Grifters etc, BMX and to my own bikes i ride today…Buy the Park Tools book and use “how to” films on Youtube if your stuck.
I wouldnt use many bike shops where i stay (Edinburgh/Lothians) except for a couple of good road based shops with experianced mechanics who are also excellent wheel builders.
Have seen shocking work done by supposedly “qualified” (On paper) bike mechanics – a friend had a fork steerer cut squint with a hack saw, the idiot never even used a cutting tool or jig.
Brand new bikes dry built with no prep what so ever, signed off as PDI`dThese included my nephews bikes which were basicly dangerous and life threatening (loose bars FFS!)… these were bikes that children were going to cycle, how many others are built up like that?…
One day some mates and i walked into an Innerliethen shop a few years back to see a kid hitting a headset cup into a £2000 DH frame with a hammer – yes an engineers hammer! 8O
Best learn to fix and build em yourself, find a buddy who builds bikes who can help you out. Also people on here who will help, just ask :-)
There is a lot of satisfaction in riding a bike you built and also maintain yourself :-)coastkidFree MemberI used Halo Freedom 29er rims, Pro 2 hubs, i had already.
complete build cost around £850 having the wheels and some unused donar parts (see below)3 x 9 MTB gearing though now swapped the 32 for a 36 Deore (£12 CRC)
Deore MTB crankset 22.32.44t (£57)
Sora ft mech (£7 CRC)
Deore rear mech (donar) but cheap
Sora 9spd STI shifters (£95 Ribble Cycles)
Salsa Lap Bar 46cm wide, only £30 as 1″ stem off a Surly
Halo Twin Rail tyres
BB7 road – £104 from some ebay shop.Headset.seat post,stem,rear mech, 12-34 rear cassette all unused/donar off a Surly fatbike
Had an as new Brooks i got for lending a bike for a highland weekend bivvy trip
Then blew the budget on Brooks leather bar tape :mrgreen:Posted already on here but love this bike :-)
coastkidFree MemberI built a Salsa Fargo for £850 but did have the 29er wheels and tyres already, love it and deft fun to ride to work and then away for the day on and offroad at the weekend :-)

How long did he get this time?I believe it was 10 years! 8O
TJ got big ban too
coastkidFree MemberA faster descent, though a bit over exposed, proves too hardtails are quick through the Pie run, though it is a mecca god rider in front who will not be on here for a wee while…
