Your not missing much as as it`s seriously boring!
Nothing you won`t get on the two UK Fatbike Facebook pages by the same folk, and you get the added humour of Slam69 (Spam69!) selling his trade

Looks like my Pugsley!, they stole my latest colour!, and Pugsley takes 4″ Fat wheels and 29+ with heaps of mud clearance, and with 27+ wheels it is the same BB height as stock, if you don`t mind a 100mm BB :-)

Another 29+ wheeled Puffin film from this mornings ride :-)

The Puffin is really really nice in 29+ wheels with the eccentric BB set in the mid rear position giving shortest chainstay,
Think proper 29+ bike (but with a 100mm BB) with loads of mud clearance, But also capable of fitting Fat wheels for a day at the coast or wherever you need some extra rubber girth,

The eccentric BB is something i was a bit suspect about being a bit of a Fatbike Luddite (traditional 100mm threaded BBs) but its a great idea that allows crank hieght adjustment to suit differant wheel sizes :)
Sam has done his homework on this frame set

So you had not rode a Fatbike before you bought your Dune and your now sayimg you would not buy one now if it only fitted 4″ tyres?… :D
Despite spending probably double the original purchase price on your Dune it`s no longer a budget 1K build is it?
And your certain 4″ is slower than 5″ on trails? 8O.
I doubt that having rode both tyre sizes for a few years,
5″ gives more comfort and grip, ideal for xc riding on peat Cheviot trails and loose rocks stuff like in the Lakes,
Fatbikes are not a replacement for regular MTBs, thats for all to see who follow UCI XC, Enduro, Downhill,

But each to their own… :)

    Stop it!

Is that a BFL out back?

    Yep Surly BFL, cheaper than a £140 45 Nrth Dunderbeist 26 x 4.6″ tyre
Same tyre size that`s suitable to fit with a 1x drivechain without cassette ring removal as is the same on my own 170mm rear hub Surly Wednesday

After 3 summers on a pair of 29+ Krampus wheels on a Pugsley i splashed out on two 29+ frames last year instead of a new bike and sold my two regualr 29ers and a cross bike, i now ride two 29+ regular BB bikes, a Krampus and an ECR,
Krampus is the usual 1×10 with a optional fox fork i can fit,
ECR has the Jones bars and Alfine hub and my camping rig,
Still got the KramPug wheels for the Pugsley also!, it`s the winter bike as loads of tyre clearance and plenty patina :-)
Sold on 29+ away from the proper beach

Here you go molegrips, that old frameset and wheels have over 11,000 miles in 7 or 8 years use, and still rolling! :)

Bikes can be ridden in salt water conditions fine if prepped up in the build.
4″ tyres on 80mm rims are ideal for most fatbike conditons year round. 5″ tyres on 100mm rims i would go for if you have a lot of dune riding or want to go rock crawling at low tide where they excel over a 4″ bike.
Dunno where folks think 170mm rear hubs are going to faze out!, Roholf for one brought out a 170mm IGH.
The Surly Wednesday is a budget Fatbike but uses latest geo for optional Blutos but takes 5″ tyres on 80mm rims with a regular threaded 100mm BB.
Any frame that can take an optional 5″ tyre on 80mm rims is a good frame as covers all options.esp if it also takes 29+ or 27.5 B+ in smaller sizes :-)
Beachriding around here in East lothian is far from boring too

You want trail geo and ride fast? why bother with 4 or 5″ fabikes?
Go get a 29+ bike like a Krampus or Trek Stache, Travers, Jones…
I own 4 regular fatbikes, been riding them 8 years now and seeing the 29+ come online and now riding 3 options (KramPug, Krampus, ECR) it offers the best option for speed and grip, can do 75% of riding where a Fatbike can away from the coast (if set up tubeless to allow low pressures without pinchflats) not as much public attention for some folks maybe but deft a beter option for most folks ;)

Own a couple of Pugsleys (one new one real old) which both can take a pair of 29+ offset KramPug wheels,
Also own a Krampus and ECR (29+ on 73mm BB and 135mm rear 100mm front hubs, and recently sold a 5″ tyre Surly Moonlander, done alot of riding on all three wheel sizes.

5″ is a bit of a mission specific set up-be that bog hopping the Cheviots type going, or loose rock climbs of the Lakes, or real soft sand along the coast…

The 4″ Fatbike tyre size can do everything, a bit of a a drag on firm terrain, but good grip and the tyre size that you can leave at one pressure all day long (8 psi for myself) whatever the conditions…

3″ 29+ can with a bit of lowering cover some soft conditions that a regular 2.25-2.5″ 29er bike would dig in and give your legs a workout. But fly`s on regular trails and your legs are less drained at the end of the day…..

With a coming Redundancy in the next week or so i am selling up some of the fleet, and will be only keeping the Pugsleys along with the offset 29+ wheels as it gives me the option of a Fatbike that also takes 29+ wheels which are more fun on easy regular trails, while fat wheels for offbeat trails like the Peat soft Cheviots and beach, it gives two bikes in one :-)

Must be a down south thing all this agression and need to film your commute thing…
I see the same dozon or so folk in cars on my commute and they usually give me a grin on the wildest days weather when i am still out on the commute what ever the wind or winter conditions…
I recently cancelled my CTC membership as tierd of reading commuting camera reviews and the whole agression thing of comutting cycling.
Then the whole youtube films of angry people cycling to work looking for conflict.

The whole thing is like the old saying if you go out in a pub looking for a fight you will find it, and these cyclists find confrotation…

Every weekend and midweek if i am out on Wednesday evenings i see big groups of road cyclists riding 5 abrest on A and B country roads here in East Lothian and huge tail backs of fustrated drivers who then hate and class all cyclists the same,
If i get stuck behind these groups -who i can bet on having ERC jerseys-even though they always deny its them out there!, i pass them with zero clearance and the windscreen wiper washers on full bore..
Sod them as there doing no cyclists any good with their militant atitude…

It`s real wet!, but just the usual sand to wash off here in East Lothian :-)
The mud is a sandy loam here so even though saturated ground away from the coast it washes off without bike cleaner and just the usual blast with the garden hose, still using Squirt Dry Lube ok here :o

My commuter bike is more of a mess with country roads caked in clag dragged out fields!

Beachriding… Good to see more folk seeing the light, I prefer winter than summer as quieter and as mentioned mud free riding!,
Come to East Lothian next April for Forth Fat Gathering and ride the coast here which has everything from Dunes to rock crawling and every type of beach conditions inbetween, And if folks think its all flat and boring we can taylor the ride to take in some of the most techie rock riding you could want at low tides…

Loads of good cheap fatbikes are coming up for sale, Fattys, Charge Maxi, and Pugsleys often for around £600. I have sold 3 Pugs this year at £600
My own old Pugsley is prob only worth the same value but with a bit orange bling still looks good and does what`s needed :-)

Great to see so much Fatbike interest here on STW :)

Since folks have seen what Fatbikes are like on natural terrain for xc riding…

The two Facebook pages- UK fatbikes and UK Fatbike Club have most of the same members as the UKFB Forum…

Also Forth Fat page on FB for the yearly coastal fatbike meet- sponsered by NB Gin :D
