I read Racing Weight by Matt Fitzgerald. I am not a fan of diets (nor would I say I was an endurance athlete) but there was a lot about when to eat as well as what to eat. I only followed it loosely but lost a stone.

Waterlattex – memory foam type mattress but with a winter and summer side (you can definitely feel the difference). Mine was the best £360 I have spent a couple of years ago.

Thought old age had set in at 36 with creaky back pain until I got it… better in a few nights.

    Hope this helps

Have also wondered about electrolyte drinks (whilst dunking broccoli in the salt cellar). I’m now officially ignoring official advice for couch potatoes until further notice.

(I’ll be blaming skiboy’s doctor if I end up in the cardio ward though).

For my first ever mtb race I got to run out, carry my bike through mud for what seemed like hours, my first night ride, slightly slithery dawn and then back to sunshine and speed… exactly – no one lap was like any other.

Everyone v nice too… especially the mud warriors, manchester mtbers and the bloke who said well done as I passed him on the last lap and made it up the last steep slope, that was big and kind. Cheers!

No, no, no. I have a secret crush on Robert Peston. Oops, now it’s not secret. Have you read ‘Who runs Britain?’. He’s v good.

Although noone’s as good as JK Galbraith. I’m sure he’d sound very irritating on the News at Ten but he’d be right.

Dog walking? Not the kind of thing that would keep you in sparkly mountain bike bits…

This winter it’s from tree thinning from the land, last winter it was from a house renovation that would otherwise have been landfilled… it’s better than gas but less good than a windmill (you could always bring your own windmill if you were worried).

There are definitely no wives included in this deal. You could always bring your own. As long as she chops firewood. :-)
