So you’ve met him to form this opinion?

Although as highest revenue generator by a factor of 40%, with a £1.1Mpa revenue stream and a track record of developing teams with fast growth curves

Tell me you didn’t say that with a straight face. Seriously, do you use those sort of phrases in real life?

I bought a pair of those MX302, but they are a very narrow fit. Im about a size 11 and even the 49 were too tight. Shimano MW80 are fine though, although the neoprene ankle thing lets water in after a while and im not talking about through the top either.

I ride both, usually the Singlespeed is for winter though. I used to think it was daft until a rode with aidain Harding in the Pyrenees. I looked at him thinking no way is he going to get up those mountains on that. Biggest piece of humble pie I’ve had to eat. After seeing that I just started riding mine more and it’s just awesome. I’d be hard pressed to chose between the Singlespeed and the geared bike if I had have just one bike.

    I don’t even think it’s done on a track, I think it’s done on a rolling road.

Its not even that, the engine is not in the car at all. Its just the engine on a test jig with a simulated load.

Bagaboo, 7 years of commuting used everyday. Probably loaded up with around 15kg of gear. Still going strong.

I’m a bit concerned about the sidewalls too. They are thinner than the mud x they replaced, but when compared to the new version of the mud x they are about the same. Ripping sidewalls is usually expensive for me, I’m end end trashing the rim if I’m on tubeless.

+1. Love these things, although i used them to around -12 or so. Just brilliant gloves, for me anyway.

First time i did it, i set off with just a cheese sandwich in my camel back. Completed it after 14 hours and i swear the last couple of climbs i went up on my hands and knees. I was a bit naive, my mentality was “its just a long ride how hard can it be?”.

If you want to replicate Garmin stuff, how about the Garmin Fit app? Its on android, not sure about iPhone though. It integrates with the Garmin connect site, uploading your ride automatically to Garmin connect. If your phone supports ANT+ (mostly Sony phones), it will work with the Garmin HRM and cadence sensors.

For what it’s worth, i wouldn’t shoot with the point of aim in the air, but it would depend on where it is. Out in the middle of no where, no problem. In middle of housing estate, probably not.

If you do go down that route, talk to the neighbours as air rifles can look like full on sniper rifles to the less informed.

You can pick up a SMK XS78 for around £99 including a scope if you shop around, but generally not available mail order. Its a very cheap rifle, runs on CO2 canisters and usually under powered out of the box at around 9 ft/lbs which should be more than enough for pigeons at 20 yards or so. Provided you aren’t shooting in massively varying temperatures, there are accurate and consistent.

Make sure the rifle is below the legal limit of 12 ft/lbs. Its the owners or users responsibility to make sure it complies, even if it has just been bought from a dealer and still in its box. As far as the law is concerned, i don’t believe there is any distinction between an rifle that is over the limit or a assault rifle. The other issue is that its a bit woolly as to how the police determine whether an air rifle is over the limit or not. For instance, i have a AA S400 that is set up with AA field pellets and maintains 11.5 consistently. With bisley mag pellets it will go up to 11.8 ft lbs. In a police check, they will use whatever pellet they can to get the highest reading, all they have to prove is that the rifle is capable of going over the legal limit. This is assuming the police check this at all, there is an ongoing incident with a competition match shooter that has had his rifles confiscated and facing prosecution as they are over the limit by .2 ftlb.

As for accuracy, i can get pellet on pellet at 35-40 yards and i’m no competition shooter. PCP rifles are very accurate with the right pellet. Springers are just as accurate, but need a bit more practice.

Re: hollowpoints: Fine if your range is less than 25 yard, but beyond that they can get unpredictable i find. They don’t really do much anyway, the pellets are subsonic so i don’t see them doing anything more than a diablo shaped pellet on a live target. Good for punching holes in paper targets though..

Yes and no. There’s only one set off lights on the way commute and like others have said they don’t always detect a cyclist. So i either wait or jump them.

Having said that, on one occasion i did stop at a red light a driver just piled straight into back of me. He claimed he didn’t know what i was doing and just carried on through a red light. So stunned was i at his stupidity, i forgot to give him back his wing mirror that i liberated from his car…

There was a thread earlier on in the week that quoted Bella Bathurst, that pretty much summed up my feelings on bikes and road law. Something along the lines of roads laws ignoring the cyclist, so cyclists felt they had no choice but to ignore the rules.

Ah, see what you mean TJ. When I’ve had hogweed burns, the redness and itching starts at first then the blisters show up after about a week. My calf still has scars from it from about 10 years ago.

There’s no fun in being a prime minister these days is there? If Mr Cameron has a problem with these legal loopholes, then surely he of all people has the means to close those loopholes. Perhaps he should lobby his local MP and complain about it.

Another shout for rugby tots. Its more about participation than learning the sport at the younger age though. My daughter started at about 2 and has been going for the last year. She loves it.

Proud Dad moment: One of our daughters friends snatched a packet of crisps out of her hands and ran off with them. Daughter promptly gives chase and full on tackles said friend to the ground. Not sure where she learnt to tackle like that, but i failed miserably at telling her that she was being a bit over the top.

Its a good phone overall, but with one frustration. The battery life can be very poor with a software update appears to fix it. This update only appears to be available to a select few on branded models. Generic uk units are still 2 or 3 updates behind. No one knows why.

That aside, one thing i find useful is that it will connect to Garmin heart rate monitors etc via ANT+

As for the texting thing, its very easy to configure it how you want to. With NFC stuff, it will send a predefined just by touching teh phone to the tag.

Dont bother with the polar strap and garmin sensor either, i semed to get very erratic reading from that combination. Now using the old stlye strap, no worries.

If your talking about the premium one, they dont need to be left out in the sun to stop working. They seem to give up the will to live after 2-3 months use no matter what i do.

I had the SLX brakes on my commuter bike, at first they were superb. However over a period of 5 months the power just tailed to the point where i couldn’t lock the rear wheel with two fingers. Two sets of deore brakes previous to those did the same thing. Changing the pads restored there power, but not for long. The pads were getting contaminted with brake fluid, which became apparent when the rear slx brake ran out of fluid. It dampened my enthusianm for shimano brakes somewhat.

Ive got a airgun that i use for rat control around the chicken run. Its just below the legal limit and at 30 yards the pellets bounce off the garden shed. Yet when i resurected a crossbow that i inherited and fired that at the shed it went through the shed and into the embankment at the end of the garden. No restrictions appear to apply to crossbows, yet the airgun is considered more dangerous it would seem.

Personally, i think its the use of the word “gun” in the description that gives people the wobblies. In addition to the rifle above,i have a target rifle which is about 4 f/lbs. You couldn’t get it over that figure even if you tried. Its very accurate and very consistent, but you’d do more damage to someone if you threw the pellet at them. It was never designed to “kill” or harm anything, purley designed to put holes in paper at a distance.

Regarding the fellas incident with the flat tyre. I seriously doubt that a legal air rifle would puncture a car tyre. Not saying it didnt happen, but sounds like it was a lot more powerful that 12 ft/lbs.

Its a class 1 laser, class 2m at the very most and i doubt its anywhere near that. Your not in any way going to suffer any ill effects.

I find that many people get a bit nervous when you mention laser or radiation. I work with both and the comments i receive are all ratehr predicatable.

Not handy cynic-al. As far as i can see the mount is welded separately to the drop out. Ive got two other bikes with P2 on, and the lower mount is in a diffent postion to those, however the other forks are 29er, not that it will many any difference.

Wife rides it, she barely uses the front brake and i only noticed when i saw uneven wear on the rotor, the lower 5mm of the rotor wasnt worn at all.

    Defo a front mount too.

    Clong

Its a shimano caliper, 160mm mount (mounted the correct way up)on a 160 rotor. Tried it with a 180mm set up, same thing. The brakes were removed complete from an existing bike, which had no such issue. The brakes that were on the Dew had the same problem. Basically, the front of the pad looks like it contacts fine, but the rear of the pad doesn’t contact the rotor at all.

    Clong

Its wrong as in the lower is mount is too high, meaning the rear of the caliper is held to far away from the axle centre. The disc pad only contacts with half of the rotor. Its odd, as i initially thought it was a set up thing, but closer inspection shows that its the lower mount on the wrong position, the top one is fine.

Rorschach, are you offering to weld a new mount on or you have a fork for sale?

Tried that IA, the sensation just takes the picture.

re Couger: Battery life on the sensation is woeful, if i leave it alone and dont use it ill get about 30 hours tops. On the Arc it would get about 3 days under the same conditions. If i use it, then i seem to get about 17 hours use. I understand the sensation is “dual core” but to be honest i think the processor speed is just bragging rights down the pub. Ive not noticed any speed gains over the Arc. I dont seem to get on with the screen shutter control either, i end up with out of focus shots more often than not. With the arc, you can half press the shutter contrl and hold the focus point.

Depends what you mean by best. I had an Arc untill i lost it a couple of weeks ago. It was then replaced with a HTC Sensation, which on paper is better. In reality, it isn’t. In fact, within the next couple of weeks or so it will up for sale.

I dont think resting heart rate is particulary meaning full, friend id ride with has a heart in the 60s, but can maitain a working rate of around 180bpm. I can mange about 150bpm. On the trails though, we are very evenly matched in terms of pace and endurance. Im a fair bit taller and broader than him though.

I have an HTC Sensation as an insurance replacement for a Sony Arc. The sensations battery life poor, to be honest. The arc would last 2-3 days between charges, whereas the senstaion is a day at most. Its a very nice, shiny phone but the battery thing is annoying.

Did crocodile research in the Delta, amazing place. Didn’t come into contact with too many local people though. Tsodilo hills is worth checking out, as are the salt pans. Ive not been to either the Sudan or Ethiopia, but Botswana had the best “vibe” about it compared to all the other places i have been to in Africa.

Its to do with the Diesel particualte filter i suspect, although your cars age seems abit early to have that. You can do it yourself, however you have to do a bit of work with the ecu to reset the counter i.e, the level of the additive is determined by how many times the additive is added, which is triggered by the fuel cap release (usually).

As to what will happen if you dont refill, not sure. If there is a DPF, then it will block eventually, which will cause bigger issues.
