I much prefer the similar yamaha systems to the bose, never mind the massive price difference

Oddly enough I have a swift as well and if Sam can offer you one within your budget then it’s a no brainer…

The swift is the best bike ever…

    Chumba HX2?[/url]

I’ve got the hx1 and it really is amazing value at £299, I think the Large is a 21″ seat tube…

Some reviews on here somewhere if you search, can’t fault my 26″ wheeled version it’s a great ride…

on the other hand, i’m 6’2″ – i don’t have a problem with standover. that’s something shortarses worry about isn’t it?

i don’t really understand TT measurements, cos they’re dependant on seat tube angle, and this one is curved, so any TT measurement is just about meaningless (to me).

a short TT measurement might mean it has a steepish seat-angle, which will help with seated climbing.

and the higher the saddle gets above the imaginary horizontal line, the more meaningless it gets.

i do get reach+stack, my 20″ blue pig has a reach of about 430mm, which seems fine, not racey, not cramped.

    anyway…

front mech: a bike like this (the buzzard) will likely get built a bit sturdy – i’d like a granny ring if possible please – i’ve only got skinny legs.

tyre clearance: i’d like to get a 2.4 advantage in the back – who needs a flexy frame when you’ve got a great big tyre at 25psi?

fork length: what forks are they above? 120mm? – would anything weird happen if i used shorter forks? – i don’t like loads of travel, i’d rather have nice angles and short forks. than nice angles and long forks – cos the angles change as the forks move (everytime you brake hard, or ride down a steep descent), and not necessarily for the better (at least, that’s what i like to think).

glad i did not buy a kona honzo……….

sorry Kona – you may still get a look in, but see my granny ring comment above.

The colour is a bit cheap looking. There are loads of strong colours that suit that kind of bike without going bright orange. All the existing Singluar range are really nice classy colours.

agreed, i’m very tempted by the cotic solaris, so the buzzard will need to be pretty to win me over.

(but it’s off to a very good start – thankyou )

Sounds like ahwiles is describing a different type of bike, maybe the swift…

Is that the new modified Phil Wood EBB with surface treatment to improve the grip of the screws….?

Seriously though, I have a a phil wood ebb in my swift and really stomp on it when it’s in singlespeed mode being a bit of a clydesdale, I also probably overtighten the securing screws.

I imagine it looks just like that photo, but I have no problems in its operation at all. Easy adjustment and it doesn’t move when secured.

Si thats too stiff for me. If it was stiffness that I was after I’d buy a Chameleon again. Thanks tho.

Have you ridden one? If not, that’s a stupid thing to say.

I have one and was very surprised (and pleased) at how compliant and comfortable it is.

As said previously to make best use of the space you’d need bookends at either end of the wall.

When stacking against a wall I always pull the bottom rows of logs out from the wall a little bit so that the pile leans into the wall.

Can’t comment on the HX-2 but my HX-1 is amazingly comfortable, something I wasn’t expecting at all….

Ok it’s the same steel, but it looks nicer
that right? £440 looks a bit pricey for bog standard tubing then. I’d assumed it was some fancy reynolds stuff.
edit ah I see you get forks seat clamp too, looking a little better.

Having built a swift and an inbred, in comparison the inbred looks as if it was built by a blind man with one arm on his last day at work after he had been to the pub, but I guess you get what you pay for…

    Got to be singular…

Singular Gryphon is beautiful, but I don’t like EBB, especially on touring frames.

Why? My EBB is rock solid in the singular, installed with a bit of copperslip it never moves, it never creaks and doesn’t seize when I want to adjust it.

I’ve got a HX-1 from Si, great service and what a fantastic bike!

Great fun, amazingly capable, do-it-all yet still compliant is all I will say as I’ve not tried the cotics or canfields

EDIT: Forgot to say, it’s also a mega bargain at the mo!

I was interested in the fox 140’s mentioned in the classifieds but having measured the chumba hx1 head tube it is 150mm long!!!! So I think 185mm is going to be too short which unfortunately puts chakapings out of the picture too… Also £325 is out of my budget so I was stuck… However a nice gentleman has offered me some revs within budget with a 200mm steerer, which seem a good option…

Bats send me an email If the price is movable, chakapings are mint and only £250….

I was thinking of doing this with Chumba HX-1, 29er carbon fork, but 26″ wheel…

I’d assumed this would be somewhere near original geometry of a 140mm 26er fork. Hadn’t considered putting a 29er wheel in there!

Would this work with a 26″ wheel?
