We had multiple letters from stating children refusing to remove masks will be sent home to a reminder of the absence policy.

Eh? I was referring to fines for absence. Our LA won’t go anywhere near fines this year, not that we want to.

threaten them anyway with fines and legal action.

    Exactly where is this happening?

I’m selling a Specialized Chisel frameset. Xc geo but long and very comfy (despite being Alu – read the reviews. In classifieds if you are interested- comes with carbon forks.

If you want a long term solution you need to strengthen your foot. Insoles support the foot, but if anything weaken it.
I had really bad PF – what worked for me was LOTS of stretching (every morning/evening) and strengthening exercises (heel lifts, picking up pebbles with feet etc). I also started using barefoot shoes (Vivo barefoot and Merrell) for everyday wear, again strengthening feet.

That frame is going to go for £338. Sweepstake anyone?

    I say £345 :-)

Should’ve kept the Speedball, it was a really fun bike to ride.

    So true.

Had a Mk1 for 3 years, sold, regretted it.
Had a Speedball for c6 months (I think) sold it, REALLY regretted it.
Had a Mk4 for 3 months, sold, regretted it.
Have Scrambler waiting to be built up.

You would think I might learn!!!! 🤣

I think ideally I’d have a Speedball for long endurance stuff, Scrambler for bikepacking and a Mk4 as a dedicated trail bike.

Can I have my Speedball back? I did. Then I didn’t. Now I do, 🤣

I can go to work and be in very close contact with hundreds of students and other staff; but I can’t meet 2 mates outside to mountain bike. My daughter can go to college and be in crowded classrooms and even more crowded wet weather areas, but can’t walk to college with 2 of them or see them out of college. We are either in lock down or we are not.

Looks like I will be back to being exposed to lots of staff/students in school (in close corridors and classrooms) but won’t be able to meet 2 mates outside to ride. FFS.

Don’t think much of this has started up yet? Our school is rigorously running bubbles, but students within them are in close contact in classrooms and corridors – it’s inevitable. As a member of staff walking across site it’s impossible to keep over 1m at times.

Will be selling a large Specialized Chisel frame and carbon fork in the next few weeks? Fantastic xc bike. Alu but really compliant – read the reviews.

What size frame are you after?

We have a new shape Berlingo XL. It’s ace! Loads of room and height inside. Triple split rear seats are dead easy to fold as needed.

“Nice bikes. Not sure where they fit on the n+1 priority list, which currently has a lls fs short travel 29er and a 27.5 fat tyred gravel/towpath beast jostling for attention. That said recently rode a mid 90s rigid Kona down Minton Batch on the Long Mynd and that gave me a whole new respect for the pioneers of our sport. Granted it was old skool geometry and 26 and ropey tyres etc, but bloody hell! Think I’ll have some bounce on the front, if only to save the wrists (& elbows and shoulders!)”

Think is old skool rigid bikes were arse up, head down. Ride a well designed modern rigid bike and the geometry is adjusted to allow more control/comfort – e.g. Jones, Stooge. Still shake you up, but more comfort and control.

From Brother Cycles website, “Unfortunately we will not be offering the Big Bro as a complete bike in 2020”. Great frame though.

Specialised Chisel, use it exactly what you describe (but no rack mounts). Mine is running carbon forks. Might be for sale so I can indulge my Stooge fetish again :-)

Complete curve ball but have you looked at a Kona Sutra LTD? I took a punt on one and love it. Can run up to 2.25’s I think, currently got 50’s on it and it’s very capable round the Peak District where I do all my riding.

    What’s it like off-road?

Brother mehteh is another option in steel.

Nice bike, but it won’t run 29er tyres so not comparable.

I’m 178 and ride a large Chameleon. It feels spot on, in fact I wouldn’t want to go any smaller.

Th amount of energy being expended in our school keeping bubbles going, staff moving around school, teaching in different classroom all the time, it feels like we are on a war footing! Staff are all pulling together really well, but it’s not sustainable. Staff are exhausted already.

    @clink – any update?

Having thought my Sherpa frame was coming with Pikes it now looks like it’s these (website was apparently wrong!) and I’m working out whether to continue with the fork purchase with Stanton or source a set of Pikes myself.

Reviews online mainly are on the SID Ultimate, which are favourable, but have the new damper that the Select doesn’t have. I like the small stuff response of my Pikes, but if I can get that in a more XC fork I’d be tempted to try the SIDs.

I’ve ridden them on Exmoor, Mendips and Cwmcarn now. New 35 stanchions certainly make a difference. TBH I’m a fit-and-forget rider, so I can’t provide much detailed feedback. They are composed on natural and man-made trails and no issues so far. Sorry!

I’ve had a set for a couple of years. No issues.

Is it a flat load area with seats out? Going by the pictures online it looks like there is a 3-4″ lip, which isn’t going to be ideal…

Not really a lip, but slopes up slightly.

We’ve got a 2019 Berlingo XL – great so far for lugging bikes and boats. Middle row of seats all fold individually, which is great. Ours is auto with the optional Grip Control. Never thought I’d buy an auto but it’s great to drive, particularly loaded up on steep country roads.

What nobody has mentioned is that the U-turm on face masks will mean headteachers having to AGAIN re-write their risk-assessments and plans to manage Covid 19 in school. Every time the government changes track it means re-doing paperwork in schools (which they have to have as they have duty of care towards staff and students).

Bit of research that exposes the lies involved in the narrative that all the children need to get back into school for their mental health.

Obviously, it’s not Been the best experience for all of them – but it makes you wonder what’s going wrong when so many kids actually have mental health improvements from lockdown.

I saw that news item and emailed the authors at Bristol univ and got a quick reply. The most surprising thing for me was that the researchers were surprised that overall anxiety decreased during lockdown. School, with associated massive peer, social media and exam pressures is a massive struggle for lots of young people. Covid is a threat but at least they have some control by staying at home.

They acknowledged they might have over-emphasised the ‘surprised’ bit and I am hoping to have further discussions with them about what support young people need.

Cheers for all the options… I like chameleons but I am specifically looking for a steel frame.

So was I, but they are all heavier and after hoisting fully loaded bikes over gates and stiles bikepacking I decided a lighter frame was worth it. Ride quality on Alu Chameleon is good, don’t discount it for that.

I tried an Osprey Talon 6 but can’t get on with stuff right around my waist. Used twice, up for sale if anybody is interested?
