I fitted my cushcore (and removed it several times to reseat a leaky valve) over the weekend. I found the easiest way to get tyres on and off was to wrap a towel around tyre and just roll the far side of the tyre off the rim towards me, rotate tyre and repeat.
Getting the bead into the wheel well was done by holding the wheel perpendicular and vertical to me, flattening the tyre, pushing it to the far side of the rim, then rolling the tyre/cushcore back towards me, and pushing the bead down into the well with fingers. Then just work your way around the tyre until its all in the middle. Using a towel helps you to grip the tyre and not end up with sealant-y hands.
Using the above method I fitted, removed and refitted the tyres probably 4 times in 45 mins. No tyre levers necessary.
If that makes no sense, dm me and I might be able to make a quick video demonstration.

I’m pretty sure Tahnee said she wasn’t competing at world champs via her Instagram stories the other day. I think she’s still getting treatment for her concussion earlier in the year.

My SC Stigmata frame came with an axle in the box last year. Well, 2 axles technically (front and rear).

I’d probably take the shapefiles from that link up there, pull it into qgis with Google aerial as a background, and digitise from there. You can then export to whatever format you need, within reason.

If you’re ground truthing or collecting in the field, I’d set it up for data collection using an app on my phone, probably “mergin maps” (android and ios) or “qfield” (just android).

All software mentioned above is open source and free. Feel free to DM me if you want more details.

Edit: just tried to download the shapefiles for a quick play, turns out they’re not freely accessible/available from that link.

Edit 2: some data seems to be available as shapefiles on the data.gov.uk site. Which area is it you’re looking at?

I guess it depends what exposure it is? With my trace on the gravel bike I use the 76 projects (owned by an stw-er) modular mount. Keeps everything tidy and the qr/gopro adapter is very useful for charging/swapping bits in and out. I’m about to order an exposure gopro mount to see if my strada/sixpack will work with it too.
Pricey, but very good. I have the same but flipped on my mtb, to protect the garmin by having it over the stem, this obviously restricts the light mounting potential.

    I’m in.

Agreed on the value side of things. It’s difficult to identify riders who offer an outside chance at top 10 results without destroying the budget.

I’m still waiting for the release of the 130mm and the hardtail. Given that robot hikes had released the r130, and were flashing the r-zero around. My presumption would be that Atherton bikes purchased all the IP from robot so should just be able to settle on some sizes and they’re good to go… But I fully expect the e-bike to take priority.
There was also mention on the pb comments that there might be a ‘cheaper’ Atherton branded bike incoming. Aluminium and far east manufactured at a more affordable price point.

you can enforce judgements in foreign jurisdictions through their courts and enforcement procedures.

That’ll make for a cracking episode of “Can’t pay? We’ll take it away!”

    Recommend what you’ve got:

Loveramics Pro Tea Mug with Infuser and Lid

It has an obscene price tag and infuser for maximum STW points (and an excuse to start a ” what tea loose leaf tea for…” thread)
Ours are 4 years old, used daily and look brand new, purchased while in Hong Kong for approximately half the cost they are in the UK.

I’d suggest Husky 550 with a 15″ or a 560/562 with an 18″ (or 15″ for super speedy cutting). Depending what you’re doing/cutting your body will thank you for having the lighter saw for waving around all day. If you need to cut 36″ regularly I’d be looking towards a 572 or 585 with a 24-32″ on it.
Personally, I much prefer an ‘under-barred’ saw, purposely putting a smaller bar on to increase the cutting speed, however beware that this often exceeds the ‘rated’ speed of the PPE you’ll own. In my experience 90% of cutting is less than 18″ dia, the occasional double cuts required to do bigger stuff is far outweighed by the quicker cutting. If I was regularly felling 30″+ timber, I’d have a bigger (~70-80cc) saw to get it on the ground, then swap to the smaller lighter saw for snedding and crosscutting. Having a 2nd saw helps when you inevitably trap your main saw, especially dealing with windblow. Tension/compression can be a steep learning curve.
Full chisel 3/8 chain for preference, semi-chisel if you’re cutting dirtier material. Get good at sharpening that’s half of the challenge.
For reference, my current saws are a Stihl 201t (12″) (for climbing), Husky 254xp (15″) for general ground work, and a Husky 371 (20″) for bigger felling/ crosscutting. Don’t discount older well maintained 2nd hand saws, they still compete with current models and most of the spares are still available.
Take a look at what the lads (or ladies) around you are using on the job, that’ll give you a feel for what you’ll need rather than strangers on the internet recommending what they’ve got.

A12 here on a Pixel 3xl with no problems, upgraded on Tuesday evening. Also have a P6 pro on order like everyone else here. Its a shame you couldn’t get any of the colours with 256gb storage, so plain old black it is.
As Andrewreay discovered, they offered me £60 for my mint condition P3xl, I’d rather trade it in at CEX for £101 cash/£125 voucher. I thought (hoped) there might be an incentive trade in scheme for existing pixel owners to entice us to the latest and greatest.

When you arrive it might be worth stopping by the School of Adventure stand to see if you can book onto anything. When I checked on the weekend the whole day coached mountain biking still had spaces. I’m booked onto that, if you see me on my santa-cruz, say hi.
Otherwise it’s a cracking weekend. Food onsite is decent, either from the pop up stands (external catering) or the alpkit kitchen. When we went 3 years ago it was predominantly cash only on the food stalls, covid might have changed that but its worth taking a bit as the nearest cashpoint is a decent drive away. Would also recommend taking some snacks for between meal/post beer cravings.
    See you there

    @dangeourbrain
100x20mm used to be the standard for forks pre boost and pre widespread adoption of 15mm axles. Now we’re in the situation where there is 20x100mm (albeit phased out now), 20x110mm, and 20x110mm boost front axle sizes. The mention of spacers on the wheelset listing is what prompted me to ask.

Its looking like it could be another interesting race, conditions wise. There has been some thunderstorms go through and lots of the track is brand new. It certainly sounds like it’ll chop up again and we’ll end up with another race with riders struggling to stay upright with the wheels turning.

Vali has taken a comfortable lead in the qualifiers. 2.2 seconds over Myriam Nicole. Pulling nearly 3 seconds back after the final split! Looks like a mistake in section 3 cost Vali a couple of seconds, and a mistake in section 4 cost Nicole a couple of seconds.

Tomorrow is going to be nail biting.

Is this the thread for virtual teams or discussion about real world DH?

I presumed it would start as the virtual teams but swiftly evolve into the general World Cup DH chat.

I think the late and very limited / wet season we had last year means there is little to no chance of predicting this years winners. Practice, training and race experience was all messed up last year. Even this year we may see the effects of Covid messing with some riders travel / race plans

I agree that it’s wide open this year, in both the men’s and womens fields, it’s anyone’s guess at this stage who’ll be taking the first few wins. I think vali is going to give the ‘old guard’ a run for their money in the womens races. In the men’s, who knows? Matt Walker should be coming into the season on a confidence high, so should do well. However all of the frenchies will be hungry for it and riding hard this year.

Pretty tempted to bust out the 3d printer and make a prototype. Anyone got a CNC machine?

I keep looking at box section carbon fibre tubing and wondering if it’s possible to build a rack similar in construction to how Atherton bikes are assembled, using 3d printed lugs and epoxy. Might be an interesting (and probably very light) project.

Cardiff is now programming in the under 30’s. My partner and I both had our letters yesterday, both of us are 29 with no pre-existing conditions. What a relief to know we’re not being passed over as an age group.

I had this same internal struggle before handing over £1300 for what appeared to be the only Reserve gravel wheels left in the country.

Just to be on the safe side I stuck it on the credit card, just in case they were going to mess me around. The wheels arrived within 2 days. Top quality service. I’ll be using them again in the future.
