Been a bit quiet posting recently but still plodding along, not missed a day yet. Cycling mileage is increasing, keeping the distance on hikes and runs down to alleviate an aching knee, still enjoying the yoga and am doing press-ups to try and keep my new found swimming fitness – did 50 yesterday, most ever and nearly as many as my age! Keep going everyone, the end is getting closer …

Loved my mk2 superlight, think it was around 2007/8. Only sold it because I panicked about it becoming worthless with the rise of 27.5 / 29 bikes

Never been a Trek fan but I now have XR2/3 tyres, a back light, gilet and bottles cages and they are all excellent – starting to quite like the bikes which is a big deal for a specialised fanboy!

This thread is definitely motivating me, off for final swim before pool closes down for lockdown 2. Only started swimming with this challenge so I will have to start doing press ups for the next month to keep my new huge arms in shape!

Here’s a pic of mine ( if I can make it work )

Sl5 disc, and I have tubeless GP5000 25mm. The Velcro has been on for three years and I think it comes off with a hair dryer but I’ve never tried. Make sure you clean the surfaces very well with isopropyl or the Velcro will lift.

I use crud road racers. I’ll probably get flamed here but I think they are better in every way. They stay in place, once the Velcro is attached they are easy to remove and install, they look better and have more clearance. And I’m also on a tarmac

I have the non mag version and mine started making a rattling noise. Turned out to be two of the bolts holding the rollers to the frame had come loose – you’ve reminded me to go and check them again. Hope this helps

Did about 40 miles on the road bike today. Dragged myself out of bed and was pedalling by about 7:30, the roads were so quiet which was a pleasant surprise. Turned out to be a really beautiful autumnal morning

Thanks dickyhepburn, good info that i would never have discovered!

I have the same difference when doing FTP on rollers vs outside on the road. I use the outside number as it’s the higher of the two so if I’m doing indoor sessions I’m working slightly harder than I should be but that’s no bad thing! A possible solution could be to take the average of the two and use that, the error really isn’t that big

Not sure but I would try specialized concept stores or sigma sports.
I used them for about two years with no issues but decided to change to rim tape because if you ever do need to put a tube in, roval say that the plugs could puncture the tube ( not that I ever did need to put a tube in!)

This challenge has got me swimming again to add a bit of variety to my activities. After about 10 sessions I thought I would get myself a lesson as it had been about 40 years since the last one – turns out there is definitely room for improvement, I stop kicking when I rotate to breathe and need to slow my arms down and stretch them out further amongst other things. It was a one to one lesson and I was exhausted after only 30 minutes, swimming is hard work!

I went from an aliante to a specialized romin and then a toupe – found all three to be comfortable

Struggling with motivation today as my cold is not getting any better but plodded round on road bike for 2 hours in sun and wind enjoying seeing the leaves changing colour, do feel better for having done it

I was also surprised by this. Two Michelin power road tyres started cracking to the carcass after about 2 months and wiggle gave us a full refund with just photo evidence and then again with a pair of gloves that were too small but had been worn three times

It also depends on where your feet are wide. Lake and shimano both have good information on their websites but you have too dig a bit to find it. Also, you need to go to the usual German outlets to get shimamo wide shoes as they are not imported to the uk. Shimano wides worked for me

Last 3 days spent in the Peak District for me and my wife. First non children break in 17 years! Had a great time doing Win Hill and Hope Cross, Margery Hill, Edale and Crookstone. Last day was a wet one but still a really good day. Very impressed with the Outside Shop in Hathersage, great advice and innkeepers lodge was a good place to stay

Gore have three fit types; active, form and slim. The ever popular phantom is active and it’s very spacious compared to a perfecto

I have xc7 shimano’s in the wide fitting and use them for everything – I had to buy them from Germany because shimano don’t import the wide fitting to the uk but I got them in 5 days. Great shoes

longdog, beautiful vid, but I think it would have taken me 20 mins just to get in! You’re tempting me to try this sea swimming lark but i might need to wear a few more clothes!

We have three days planned in the Peak District next week and will be staying in hathersage. Our first ever child free holiday in 17 years! Can’t wait …

10 days done, 90 to go! For me it’s a mix of bikes, hikes, yoga and swimming. Swimming is the new one and I’ve been 4 times in the last 2 weeks, so tired after only 40 lengths / 30 mins that I need a little snooze when I get back! In our pool no overtaking is allowed with COVID so what does everyone do when the person in front is too slow ( I’m not fast enough for the fast lane )

Thanks munrobiker, I went into the help pages and did the following: To register a hike, I have gone into the edit page of the activity and changed the sport from hike to run in the drop down. It then works but if you look at your activities the hike is now a run so a bit misleading.

There have been a couple of mentions of walks and hikes not registering. I have this problem too, how do you actually make strava ‘see’ these activities? Mine only shows cycle, run and swim so I assume that gym and yoga sessions won’t show either?

    Thanks

I’m with the purist on this and waiting for the backpack to come back into fashion. I remember when camelbaks became popular and everyone was happy to not be stopping and having to drink out of water bottles covered in sheep shit. Still happily using my camelback rogue and mule and really don’t think about them when riding

I’ve just been through all of this and have had 3 sizes of each brand come through my front door. For me, and of the ones I tried, specialized were the narrowest, followed by lake mx176, then Shimano standard width then northwave, lake mx238 were great but the heel would lift, the winner was Shimano wide fit xc701 bought from bike24 in Germany as we can’t get wide fit in the uk. Quite a few people told me not to even bother trying giro and fizik. It’s interesting digging around on the lake website because they have a matrix that goes into serious detail. It shows that although the 176 and 238 are both wide, the 238 has more volume. Shimano also have a comprehensive table showing their different lasts. It helps to know where you foot is wide, mine is very wide around the ball of my foot But my feet are small. Good luck and I hope this helps. One last thing, for the first time in however many years, I was able to buy the right length shoe to get the right width and it feels so much better not having all the extra space in front of my toes.

We had the faster of the two types of Up when they first came out and I found it hard work holding 70 on motorways. It was great in every other respect, but that was enough for me to get rid of it after about 2 years

Anchovies work well for me. Currently have two in my front tyre (gp5000) and they have been there for the last 2000 miles

Ok, I’m trying northwave next as they were recommended as a possible solution from the lake sales guy. I will report back as short wide feet seem quite common here! Not too keen on northwave using their own design of BOA though

Thanks all, i am only noticing heel lift walking around in the house. the shoes are new with no cleats so I can send them back if they are the wrong size – so i don’t know if i will have heel lift when pedalling. But i think bike a hike or cx racing would be difficult with any form of heel lift so I suppose these are going back as well – im running out of suppliers, think I might have to go for a less stiff sole

Sorry, should have said pertex. I know pertex is quite fragile but the deuter back didn’t cause any problems. I could even see my gore wind stopper jacket fabric roughing up. I ended up putting spinnaker repair tape on the mesh to stop the rubbing. What was even more strange was my commute was 12 road miles each way with almost no stop starting so I didn’t think the pack was moving around much

I originally went down the osprey route, first with a 15l escapist which was too sweaty and then with a 15l syncro but the mesh on both ospreys was very abrasive and pretex couldn’t handle them. I then got a deuter race exp air and it’s perfect in every way. I think mine is the same as yours as it does have a front pocket so I would probably try the new version as the back system is so good
