I went the same route as you in using multi purpose kit ( that I already had ) so base layer, fleece, paramo Quito or montane event and it has worked well. The only negative is not having a ski pass pocket so I have to wiggle about a bit at the lifts!

I also bought one about a year ago and really rate it. I always regretted not buying one when they were discontinued as there were some great deals around

The resort is very small, Val Cenis in the French alps. There are two very helpful shops in the village, the boots are for my wife and she is French so we hope for good service. From what has been said so far, we are leaning towards getting them there – thanks for all the replies

My wife was diagnosed 4 years ago when she was 37 and she will be on medication until her 50s. Really sorry for you both. In the early stages one of the best things for me was discovering people you know who have been through it and are living normal lives again. Be wary of who you listen to, some of the forums are very misleading and my wife was hooked on them for over a year before realising that they offered poor support. McMillan are great. If you want to ask more specific questions, please feel, free to ask.

KCR, I really agree with the cost point – to get a 105 spec carbon bike is well over £2K, the cost of entry is very high. And I am looking for 1 bike for all year round so don’t have the luxury of a super light dry use only summer bike

Thanks for all the replies, really informative. It seems like the only real negatives are keeping them well set up to avoid squealing and standards. The standards are a big deal for me as i have been caught out by this in the past. I was looking at a tarmac disc comp which has a unique and very narrow hub, QR, and post mount but it looks like the standards are settling at 145mm rear spacing, 12mm axles and flat mount. It’s almost worth waiting another year to see if this is how it pans out but I’ve got the itch …

The bike warehouse has 4 different shops spread out around kent. I know the shop in Faversham well and the service is normally good – the owner is called Keith. I think you may need to go on their website and call the 4 different shops to find out which one you are dealing with

    Hope that helps

I’ve tried a few back packs and would recommend one that has a frame that creates an air gap, I use an osprey synchro 15 for my 12 mile each way commute and it’s excellent

Thanks Tillydog, you have swung me back with the small small comment!

Hi tillydog- your pictures explain scs hubs well – does that mean that you have to use a scs hub on the diverge, are they readily available? If you use a regular hub and hanger is the chain line angled too far out? I like the Diverge and the tarmac disc but that too has the scs system and this looks like a very unique standard

    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions so far, the mac has got a 2.3Ghz intel core 17 processor and 16GB of RAM. I’ve read somewhere that I need to give 8GB to parallels for it to run well but i think we only have it set at 4GB. We do need macros, and where do I find coherence mode and how do I increase the ram ( if thats a solution ) ? Thanks

I need to edit my comment from above, it was my back pack that caused the damage to this jacket and two others. So sorry Rab for questioning your quality, I think the flex is just about perfect in terms of breathability and fit

Thanks for all the advice, you’ve all stopped me buying yet another jacket!

Dash, do you wear anything with the mountain shirt as I have a the belay jacket? What happens when you are stuck on a char lift for 20 mins with the wind blowing, will the buffalo still keep you warm?

I’ve got an 80mm Sid from about 2002 which was on on a 96 Marin pine mountain until last year – still going stong on my daughter’s bike with very little maintenance. I’m the same weight and live in kent and it’s fine for me

Raining hard here in Kent so thought I would try the rollers I bought 2 years ago and only used once. I’m normally good for a 3 hour road ride but was absolutely knackered after 25 minutes ( and I’ve discovered that rollers are scary things )…

It is often said that this site is full of armchair cyclists but after reading all of the posts so far, there are so many huge distances. I was pleased with my 3500 miles until I read this thread, but now I’m inspired for a big number for 2017!

Thanks for the replies. The vango was a 350. I looked at the chrysalis 3 but it didn’t get great reviews, any other suggestions?

Nedrapier, is your rab jacket piling on the outside on the back? Mine has done this very quickly due to my back pack, I was surprised the material was so fragile compared to a gore windstopper ( but far more breathable than the windstopper )

I have just returned mine. I thought it was perfect for breath ability and comfort but after about 10 commuting rides of about 40 minutes each, the back started to pile up and small holes were appearing. My osprey synchro back pack only weighed about 3kg. I have been refunded but I have asked rab for their views as I really liked everything else about the jacket – I will post back when I hear from them

One year for me on the 13th but I’m thinking about them all of a sudden. Good excuse for a little bike present to keep me focused ….

Cracks in the flange. In his defense, he has been in the business a long time and the new wheels did feel more responsive than my hope hoops, the tension in the spokes was higher and more even. It was just that the hubs were not particularly well sealed as cannondaleking said. Think I will try JRA

Clodhopper, I wanted something lighter and quieter and the wheel builder was not a fan of hope. Since the pawl spring failed, I don’t trust the hub so on the look out for something new – probably hope and a tubeless compatible rim

I have a roubaix with crud race guards which is used for 12 mile each way commute and longer weekend rides and I love it. The guards are two years old and I’ve had no issues with them. With the guards on, I can fit a 25mm tyre on the back but only a 23 on the front. I had an aluminium Orbea and a genesis equilibrium before but much prefer the roubaix

Some really inspiring posts here. I ride 3 or 4 times a week and know that I need more variety as I have reached a plateau as others have said. But what about stretching, are you all doing it religiously – I always seem to have aching knees, arms, etc.

Picked up bike yesterday. Jumped on it and rode home after adjusting the saddle height – don’t think I have ever had a bike that felt so right in over 20 years over mountain biking

    Thanks for the feedback

I’ve had a hope vision 1 for the last 5 years. I ride unlit country lanes 12 miles each way and never need to have it on maximum power. It’s a great light but bulky compared to the exposure joystick because of the 4 rechargeable batteries. I charge ithem once per week
