Rode it East to West at the end of a long ride from Long Preston on the Pennine Bridleway last year.

Short and a bit of pushing up to High Dophinsty, fast and longish, easy but not without interest to Stennerskeugh.

Reckon it’ll be middlin’ to good either way around 🙂

Mt Teide to Los Gigantes, Tenerife. Several times in the dead of night.

16 miles, 100 yards of power and another 7 miles.

    Hot, smelly brakes!

Must be good on a bike, not sure about the ride up, though it is morbidly attractive 😉

    Cheers

I’ve been to La Palma about 5 times and ridden with these guys

    Cool outfit

Look up ‘La Palma mountain’ on YouTube.

    They cater for all levels.

Depends very much on what they find and do inside 🙂

I drove home 3 hours after my first op. Was riding gently within the week. Second op on other knee also gentle riding within the week.

    YMMV!!!!!

    Good luck.

Would also recommend the ‘relatively’ cheaper La Thuile (link to La Rosiere) for a beginner all in one package.

Hope you have a good trip wherever you go 🙂

    Flats with no pins…

…also no unpredictable riding surfaces. A.K.A. an exercise bike or similar.

    Good luck.

for some reason, the Goyt Valley seems to have extended it’s reach into the Marple/Offerton area of Stockport

Ah, that will be ‘cos the Goyt does ‘end’ here

    in the middle of Stockport.

Hmm, so all that stuff I’ve been riding is not BW… 😉

Fatten him up so much that he slows down..?

Does neutering help curb the instinct (assuming he hasn’t been, yet)?

Hmmm, keep the cheeky chappie locked indoors at night. Should reduce the body count.

Ride your full suss MTB on the road and put a football shin pad on the side of your leg??

If it hurts when riding smooth surface, don’t. If sore the day after, rest and gently do more.

    Aye, Jupiter is cool…

…first clear evening here for a while (yes I live in Manchester…)

Venus low in the south as it got dark, plus the ISS and a very bright Iridium flare.

Nice to find a few more astrogeeks on here 😉

Edit – though now trying to include it in a decent loop from the original Macc Forest route described…

I dont think anyone knows much about space at all, let alone how it was created.

SBZ does have a point though. The origin of the low entropy, organised early universe is one of the big questions in science.

This is where valid theory can stray across into conjecture and leave scientists that are not careful in how they present such discussions open to trolling, naysayers and sensationalism.

    Cheers…

So, if a mass suddenly appeared , how lonh would it take for a body at a distnce from that mass to be subject to the gravitatioanl field the ‘new’ mass created?

The impact of the new mass on space-time propagates at the cosmic speed limit (also the speed of light).

    clarkpm4242

Do photons have zero mass? But their path is affected by other large masses. There is a lovely lensing effect picture on here recently.

The space-time through which the photons travel is warped by the mass. As far as the photon is ‘concerned’ it is still travelling in a straight line within that space-time reference frame…
    …sort of.

On a related note, does anybody know hoe fast gravity travels/ works?

At the ‘cosmic speed limit’. That speed also happens to be the speed of light (in a vacuum). Photons have no mass and therefore MUST travel at the cosmic speed limit…
    …apparently.

repeated by the bending of light by the dark matter’s gravity well

More like the mass of the visible and dark matter warping space/time within which the light would still appear to be travelling in a straight line, but resulting in multiple images for us to observe…

    …HTH.

The dark matter distribution is deduced from the multiple images of very distant background galaxies that have been gravitationally lensed by the dark matter.

They are the multiple blue streaky blobs that are distributed in multiple arcs around the central set of nearby fuzzy blobs (galaxies).

Many of the blue streaks/arcs are actually multiple images of the same galaxy…

…HTH. EDIT: maybe just saying the same as above though 🙁

Dunno about that, 5 10 do plenty of other very nichey shoes. Apparently they have a waterproof pair for flats on the way though.

Definitely in the market for something like that! Where is the rumour??

Trails were fine today. I spent about 4 hours going up and down and around and around at the top end of the forest. A bit frozen and some snow 🙂 A few puddles on the original Black singletrack.

New Red just fine…the new woodwork could get *very* interesting through the winter though 😉

As above really, we are heading there in the morning.

Say ‘Hi’ to the bespectacled old git riding a silver Stumpjumper 😉

I hope to be doing a couple of laps…

I was looking at maps to see if there was an alternative to the climb past the Moorcock Inn to get you over to where the Highway itself meets the road a few miles to the East nearer to Hawes. There are some tracks marked going northeast from the top of the Coal Road, but not sure that’s viable.

    Likewise!

I did do the climb up the Highway from near Hawes on another Dales BW monster outing. Definitely worth linking into a route.

Ditto on the Garsdale choice. That isn’t an obvious route up. The BW over High Dolpinsky might also have been ‘interesting’!

Did this as a one way from Long Preston -> Kirby Stephen during the dry but cool summer. A great outing. Got the train back after some very civilised refreshment in the retro cafe at the Kirby Stephen station :))

Need to do the bit from the MTL to Long Preston and the northerly bits when opened.

Took me ~3 hours to do 2 laps of the complete Red with the new B-Line Black. Unlikely to be fast or slow…

…am guessing you want times for the new jumpy Black section 😉

Best descent for me was Horse Head to Halton Gill (at the top end of Littondale). You should definitely try to do this. We approached it from Langstrothdale and its basically a push up

Definitely do this as a descent *into* Langstrothdale. Much better 🙂

New black is like a longer more intense and potentially a tad harder version of the Parallel Universe section. Speed dependent 🙂

    Old black remains open.

New red finish is so much better than the old fire road return.
