You can also start the above by taking the Pennine Way (it is a BW) NW from Hardraw. Another nice climb. Then near the top take the obvious marked BW left contouring and down into Cotterdale (not the FP about half the way up). Try not to miss sneaky BW sign off to R into forest near bottom of descent into Cotterdale.
Road back to Hawes or join the other route at Cotter Riggs.
NW along A684 to Cotter Riggs. Take BW just by road junction, parallel to road at first and then up to Cotter End (full marks if you make it to the gate). Carry on up past lime kiln to top on obvious zig-zag track. Follow BW all the way to B road just before Outhgill.
Return by road.
A great intro to Dales moorland cruising and Dales climbing 🙂
My planetarium software has the difference in sun rise and set times 1 second longer on the 20th than 21st…
…08:00 ish on 20th, start of a long ride in England’s ‘Last Great Wilderness’. Sweet 🙂 and good weather 😉 HCN_20062012_small by clarkpm4242, on Flickr
Did PBW – Long Preston to Kirkby Stephen last year. A good 58 miles I think. Was well marked then, should be improved now. As above check road section from KS to Street.
The other link route that cuts out Wild Boar Fell is also nice by the river.
I have extended it via Stirrup Benches, Grid Lane, Mellor Moor, Golf Club descent to Strines Station, Roman Lakes…but something interesting and a a fair bit less added time would be great 🙂 clues welcomed 😉
I also do a loop out from Sth Mcr. TPT from Stockport, Green lane as per NBT. Over Werneth Low. Brabyns Park, Peak Canal. Cheeky down into Chadkirk then back end of Woodbank Park, Vernon Park, Brinnington tunnel and TPT home to Heaton Mersey.
Good to know other riders may be around if I fall off!!
