I suggest go North East to hopefully get the best weather.

    Swaledale or North Yorks Moors.

    🙂

Thought I’d try a bit of road. Bought this a month or so back, seems OK, goes uphill! Enjoying it so far.

Don’t know what else to expect. It is a bike 🙂

    Edit: 105 groupset…

4th road ride for me. 50+ miles, first 20 were Cheshire lanes then up for Mow Cop. Tailor-made for beasting MTB stylee 🙂

Longer climbs are another ball game..!

Am finding the road more satisfying than expected…oh dear!!

Descent from Wild Boar Fell maybe OK if its dry.

Watch out for the first steeper rubbley section towards Clapham.

Final descent towards Hebden could involve some walking if you are tired.

Not done the bit between Long Preston and the MTL.

Find a cheap B&B in Settle and do it over 2 days??

Early 60km on the road on Saturday, cool and no traffic in the western Peak District. Wee 25km BW bashing in the Dark Peak on Sunday…
    …lovely.

Shhh! First road ride on Saturday. Sawley to Clapham and Ingleton out and back via Bowland Knotts, the carbon road bike made me feel fat 🙁
    it was magic.

Sunday, grand tour of Widdop and Tod northern skyline. Perfecto!!

Body a bit sore after being bent into/onto road machine 😉

    Cheers

Start in Rhayader, warm up along the Elan Valley Trail, at the end take
    this BW west to east
and cross the road to take
this BW SE back to Rhayader

Only one real hill and a fast as you want descent to finish.

    🙂

Train from South Manchester to Hathersage. Ride home 75% off road…

…and loop around Malham Tarn from Settle with a few extras thrown in 🙂

    Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

Hope y’all had a great weekend.

    Back to the OP…

…Based on my anecdotal evidence the simplest and prob. safest/cheapest is to freshen up your flatties, new pedals or pins. Do not get ‘locked’ into spds…

Then try to pedal more ‘correctly’. There will some aches and pains in the muscles. If the joints start hurting you can easily take a rest from your new position. Build up gradually.

    Worked for me.
    Cheers Paul

Have just test ridden one vs the specialized tricross

Thought it looked great and rode well…

…until I tried the tricross which looked tish but rode better..??!!

Fiddled with setup but RX9 was way more ‘twitchy’. And I really liked it but…

…don’t know what to do now.

    @muddydwarf @mintimperial
Thanks for all the info. Rode the undamaged true BW early this morning.

Turn off is marked by a couple of large rocks.

A lovely section all the way across to the PBW. No wet feet, must be in good nick.

The repaired Pack Horse Road is much better with the slabs over the always boggy parts!!

    Cheers

    Argh!!!

@mintimperial, I was going to use that BW to join into a Marsden Loop that I do.

How much of the BW has been dumped on?

    Cheers

Had similar with an astronomical society. After 4 years of feeling like I was making everything ‘happen’. Do what you want esp. with a new family.

    Just go and ride.

    Cheers.

P.S. When is the next pootle? 😉

    Hi

Thanks DB. I think those Apps don’t really do what I was looking for.

Basically, an App that renders the Garmin proprietary format (additional features are a nice to have).

    Thanks again.

Currently have Stumpy FSR and Boardman HT Pro.

If I had to have one, a SC Tallboy Carbon XX1, more XC than DH and good for the spine 😉

A spare bike is a *must* though.

    Cheers

If you take the non-M6 route via M56, A55, A483 and A5 you’ll also find Llandegla very easy to visit.

So that’ll be a Specialized Camber 29er at 110mm travel that’s an XC travel but as its 29er really is a Trail and AM bike, clear?

Combine the west-bound leg of this…

…with the east-bound leg of the Crackpot loop.

Start and finish at Dales MTB Centre.

A great route 🙂 Edit: as DJ notes, snow maybe an issue, check with Stu…

Local park life single track and steps on Friday.

Gisburn Forest on Sunday. All the new stuff comes together with the older trails to give a fantastic techy XC loop.

Recommended!! The cafe is another great addition.

I use the pressure/cloud charts from this portal

    Charts

if you re-visit you can see how they evolve.

I’ve found them very accurate for the general picture however 50 miles out 7 days ahead can make a big difference to your local experience.

Two pieces of pipe. Long and short. Rag(s) to stuff round tubes.

Long one all the way into the fuel, short to blow into. Rag packed around them in the filler tube.

Blow into short tube and fuel comes out of long tube into container. Use syphon effect once started…

    Shaun W Keaveny is great…

    …there I said it.

Underneath that dry, tired persona/angle on life he is very genuine and loves the music.

    YMMV
