Any particular reason to go via Macc and Buxton?

I would follow Goyt from Vernon Park to canal at Chadkirk, then to Roman Lakes in Marple, over the top by various options to Hayfield, then either Jacobs Ladder or Roych Clough routse to Edale/Castleton then various choices to Hope…

Am a Canon man thru and thru.

New 1100D out in week. This should give discounts on the 1000D.

Also, do go for 10MP or above. Gives you so much more to play with in the ‘digital darkroom’.

Weather forecast for Saturday has improved from the 25 mph winds and 50+ mph gusts that were in yesterdays forecasts (guesses).

Is there a final deal on the route yet? Am interested but easing back from an injury 🙂 thank you.

CQ is more fun, if only because everyone is at Lee

Shhh! Don’t go telling everyone! Its ace. Also worth doing a bit in LQ though, if only to ride down the link track :))

Ah, yes. Regular Route on Fairview Dome :)) great memories! Climbed it with Nat Allen in the early 80s.

In contrast, had the rather marginal Johnny Dawes on the phone last week for help with his autobiography/memoirs…
…what has he done on grit..? 😉

I thought all older ex-climbers took up MTBing 😉

A bit fanatical into my mid-40s, 8a sport, E7 trad, big walls. Over-use and traumatic injuries led to loss of mojo.

Now into mid-50s and the MTB rules :))

Was there for the first time yesterday, Friday.

Was really dry and rode very nicely. Did the Dog and the Monkey, and another lap of the Dog.

Monkey Trail has some lovely singletrack. Actually there is lots of nice ST.

    A great XC ride 🙂

    OH YES!!!!!

Had a 3 hour session in the sun today.

Feels like at least another K of pedally, pumpy, bermy goodness has been added to Cragg Quarry. Makes you work even more for your kicks :)) ‘Jewel in the crown’ indeed!!

Great work on the refurbs to Lee Quarry!

So lucky to have this venue within 1/2 hour :)))

Have passed this on to the local Nissan factory. Many sourced the C2W stuff through them. (I think he used to work there.)

On the minus side, lots of the contractor stuff is painfully rocky/stuttery/muddy or doesn’t flow for me (might need to be fitter?).

Worked really well for me with plenty of omph (and a full suss)…

After all the climbing up to Whelpstone we were rewarded with deep mud so didn’t climb upto the slab.

Aye that mud stopped me dead getting momentum to get over the rocky bits. Wonder if owt can be done to improve it??

Gisburn has come on fantastically over the past couple of years :))

Rode the new section today. Magic weather 🙂

This seems to really shift the balance from forest road towards a singletrack fest :))

    Great work by the diggers.

Very muddy between the rocks at the top end. Rollercoaster a bit slimey as well.

The rest of the ‘8’ is holding up well and the Homebaked section is starting to become part of the forest. Lovely stuff!

Rode up, and down, the new link to Cragg Quarry today.

Blue skies and great fun. Lots of grin-inducing drops and pumps on the way down.

    Another great addition.

A couple of laps of Lee and Cragg via the link made a great 2 1/2 hour XC outing:)

3 solo loops this year varying various sections to the east and the main westward return. Do it clockwise!

Did not see any 4x4s. Great non-technical away from it all ride.

Would be very wary of road conditions at the moment as it does use some tarmac (ice).

Llandegla is closed due to snow/ice. A local may have more confidence in the conditions.

A fresh as poss, preferably just of the stem thingy that they grow on.

Peel off outer layer and chop off bottom bit, then eat…

    …raw.

    Has to be done! 🙂

I used to do this for hands when rock climbing in winter. It works!

Get them mind numbingly cold and endure the sickening hot aches. Could then climb for much, much longer than if starting from normal warm hands.

The effect does wear off though :((

P.S. It was my hands, not my head that I got mindnumbingly cold 😉

Surely we should all be opposed to electronic gear changing?

It is taking a previously stored form of energy (battery) and making it easier to ride.

Sounds just like MXing, except petrol makes up for human effort!

The thin end of the wedge.

    Keep MTBing pure!!!

    🙂

Cheviots on Sunday – combo of easy/medium routes from ST feature.

Kielder on Wednesday – maybe get up out on the tops via Lonesome Pine and Bloody Bush trails.

    All a bit weather permitting… :))

Should be BST in winter and BST+1 in summer…
…also a shorter period of month for the winter.

I travelled to school when the original experiment was done and it was fine and great having some light in the late p.m. (Manchester).

As for Scotland, the length of day (a.k.a. gloom) is so short that it surely makes no difference wether this is an hour later/earlier.

My 2010 Stumpy is 12 months old:

    – forks fixed/serviced under warranty (stopped working)
    – new main shock under warranty (blew through whatever when dropping off in pro-pedal)
    – new rear hub bearings (wear and tear)
    – half a dozen new spokes (wear and tear)
    – replacement drive train (wear and tear)
    – new Hope Hoop rear wheel (wear and tear)
    – new break pads +++ (wear and tear)
    – just going in for new headset today…

…try not to use jet washers and do not use Muc Off.

    Gets ridden 2 – 3 times a week.

    Reasonable??

    Had same idea but…
…this idiot put unleaded in diesel car and broke down on way to Wales. Rescued and at Lymm Services for 90 mins for drainage.

So spent an hour messing about on lots of lovely cheeky and tricky singletrack, steps, ups, downs and roots at Lymm Dam.

Truck Stop jetwasher team even gave my steed a quick free hose down after :)) Cool!!
