…also, try to keep caffeine intake on a par with your usual.

Unless you are trying to wean yourself off. People often have caffeine withdrawal issues over the weekend.

Plenty, plenty, plenty of fluid. Salt additive not really needed for someone like yourself.

Oh, and Monksie +1 (like the rest of us)

    Cheers 🙂

    YES.

    Like the slightly longer short.
    Neat magnetic thingies on pockets.
Seem well made and hard wearing.
    My garment of choice.

Will not be a bad buy!

Nice photos Gavgas. I did the route anti-clockwise from Dufton during the drought conditions last year.

A great wilderness day out :)))

    Does binners study general relativity..?

There’s absolutely no way on earth I could do that as a daily commute. You could physically age while sat in your stationary car every day.

    😉

I now live in Heaton Mersey. Good access to town/Uni and a nice locale. Have just moved from Sale, Metrolink gives great access to town.

Both need a short drive to get to loads and loads of great riding.

    Cheers 🙂

Did the newly (OK nearly) open Yorkshire Dales section of the Pennine Bridleway on Friday, 52 miles and 6000ft from Long Preston to Kirby Stephen Rlwy stations. The new MTL perhaps..!??

Macclesfield Forest, Cumberland Brook etc on Sunday with partner.

    Ged on yer bikes :))))

    Cheers Paul.

Rode this today, great cool summer weather!

Parked at Long Preston station and finished off at the retro train station in Kirkby Stephen, afternoon tea with scones 🙂 Train back to the start.

    A good 8 hours riding for me…
    …cheers

That would be the Berwyn route on this page…

    Great route!

…is about 30 miles!! It is all BW, not footpath as on the map.

    Great in the dry :))

MBR is technically harder than – Dalby red, Llandegla black, Follow the Dog, Monkey Trail, the Marin and Penmachno.

If he can ‘style’ the rocky qualifier after the Forks gateway at the start he should be OK, otherwise there are a few more committing rock sections later…

    …YMMV

YGM, this was via Bill Brady but I think it came from the ranger for the Dales section.

    Hi

I have 5 jpgs of the route (kindly provided by the PBW ranger for that area). I can forward if you give me/post your email.

I would like to know the amount of climbing involved. Am interested in doing a S to N ride from Long Preston, 52 miles.

Hope the injured party recovers well!!!

At the risk of being inflammatory…
…that ‘drop off’ is neither a compulsory air nor inherently dangerous. It is on a Black section and blind, which is obvious when approaching. Therefore the ride should beware.

    It doesn’t need sanitising.

    Cheers.

When you do know what is what and there is a suggestion of riding again…

…get some flatties. Allows you to move the foot forward and put less stress on the calf/tendon. Wean back to SPDs later, if you must 😉

    Good luck.

Yes, I know what you mean. Some days I just can’t get in the groove or I just hurt the whole ride.

Same. Did a ride 2 weeks back, hurt for 5 hours. Went back last Thursday – 3h 40m with spare left at the end…

…or was the hurt normal and the good ride a fluke..!? 😉

I managed fine putting Continental Contact Sports on my Stumpjumper. Though the bike with narrow tyres and me with baggies and Camelbak looked very out of place 🙂

Was about 100k up and down the classic Peak climbs. Found I could cope quite well with the changes in gradient as used to getting into the ‘red zone’ (or some other jargon) compared to the even tempo, tempo, tempo roadies 🙂

Keep off the front! Which should be no problem…

Did the loop week last Thursday in beautiful dry conditions.

Clockwise, solo and with purposful riding took much nearer 7 than 8 hours if I subtract a shopping detour.

If you know there are a few gates its not a problem, especially if you can take turns.

Have been getting out twice a week for 3 – 4 hours over the past couple of months.

    Enjoy 🙂

Riding the longest continuous constant downhill singletrack in the lakes tomorrow.

Did the classic Sedbergh, Calf, Bowderdale, Ravenstonedale Loop today. Bowderdale ST to myself, magic.

A couple of days in the Dales (Swaledale, Wensleydale etc) over the weekend.

Hoping the weather is good for everyone!!!

    Cheers, Paul.

I’ve heard that one lap of Lee Q linked with one lap of Cragg Q is about 10 miles. Doing a couple of laps in each must give ~16 miles.

Throw in a bit of sessioning and it seems like good value to me.

Must be soo fast at the mo!!

Managed to incorporate an out and back from Langsett into a work trip from Manc to Cambridge :))) soooo dry!

A real buzz!! Also had a quick spin along Howden Res for the views 🙂

Must be one of the best quick fixes :))

Ha, ha! Thanks Lowey. Am relatively better riding uphill than mincing downhill…

Did the ‘Grand Day Out’ off MTB the Dales website last week and am looking to squeeze in another route north of that STW Settle/Litton ride that you led.

    Brilliant non-tech solo riding.

    Cheers.

Ignoring the incumbents I see it as resulting in:

    – FPTP – ancient, primitive, alpha male rules as he’s beaten the nearest contender

    – PR – modern, caring, consensus rule via working together

    – AV – flawed but more likely to lead to a vote for genuine PR in near future.

Play the long game, vote AV …

…I would suggest that right-wing folk would be liking FPTP and the more socialist folk should be voting (though maybe not liking) AV??

Cheers…is a nice day, must get outside!!
