Is that the same Cadel that complained nobody wanted to win the race enough to chase down Valverde when it was him in the leaders jersey?

For years he raced against smackheads

Didn’t a lot ride with him at US Postal?

Didn’t he ride the Giro to promote his Cancer charities?

Seemed to work well for the first week until someone upset him and he sulked for the rest of the race.

No idea about hiring. I took mine.

Thinking about it now I seem to recall an article a couple of months ago about off-road riding there. It was probably in MBR.

Not sure. If you can bring yourself to ride on the darkside then it really is worth it.

The east end of the island is the best if you want to avoid the chavs on holiday. Also worth staying on the south side of the main ridge, its usually in sun whilst the north is often cloudy.

Only cheeky trail in Tenerife. Off road riding is illegal, although a couple of companies do take people out and about.

The landscape is amazing. I took my road bike last year and did some great mountain riding. Blue skies and 30 degrees at sea level with 20km + climbs up into the cloud.

Some of the back roads are very quiet with huge climbs (35km to the top of the volcano) and cracking descents. However, coast roads and some of the other linking ones are very, very busy.

I did the 12 hour solo last night. Wea a great day. Nice and chilled atmosphere on the course.

It’s nice to finish at midnight and watch loads of people carry on going around and around. The Tour will also be on the TV in the arena.

Four of us did a bivvy trip on the South Downs Way last ‘summer’. Great day riding on the Saturday but it absolutely tipped it down overnight. We all had Hunka’s and spent the night under a groundsheet / tarp and were still nice and dry the next morning.

Travel light. Share what you can and strap as much as possible to the bike. A sleeping mat in a dry bag or black bin bag, fixed to the handlebars with a bungee works well. Tarp and bivvy bag under the saddle.

We tried those self heating meals for breakfast, which were just about OK. Dinner was in a pub, with a comedy drunken nightride back to camp.

We’ve got a couple more trips planned for this summer. It’s great fun and great to wake up with no tent obscuring the view, even in the rain.

I’ve never specified the stuff but think it is called switchable glass.

A quick google gave me this

Repairs are possible, depending on the extent of the damage. There’s often adverts in the back of roadie mags.

I am doing it this year and will probably use CrossMarks. No idea if they’ll be any good, but they’re fast rolling.

    What about left hand turns?

You still need to signal and slow down.

To add to my previous post, we use Bum Genius[/url].

    They’re really very good.

And we now wash them with

    Ecoballs

Sorry, might end up repeating some bits.

First check your local council don’t do a voucher this for reusable nappies. We got £55 (I think) off some. The Missus wanted bamboo ones first of all, so got them. They were meant to last until 9 months, but our girl grew out of them by 5 months.

We now use some that I can’t remember the name of but they’re excellent. They have poppers that mean they can be made the right size for new borns, but then expand as they grow. Our little one is 8 months next week and there’s still loads of room left for her to grow in. We have a friend who has a one year old who’s used them from birth and they’re going strong.

They also dry very, very quickly. Almost dry when they come out of the machine.

£15 or so each. We got 12 and had two free. That’s plenty for her with washing done every 2 to 3 days or so. We also use bio degradable ones as backup or when we’re away form home.

BTW, we use reusable, not only for environmental reasons, but also cause they’re nicer on her little botty. Aparently we’re geting some eco balls instead of washing powder for financial and eco reasons.

I’ll try to find the manufacturer out later if you want.

    I use one of these

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18436

Very tough, pretty big and stable to carry.

I also use it for bivvy trips.

It’s easy to trigger the ‘slow down’ thing on Muswell Hill in North London, and there’s a speed camera a little further down the hill.

Not sure if it flashes as it’s a little hard to look behind at 40mph with traffic lights rapidly approaching.

My P7 is from 2005 and I had the same problem. I called Orange and they sent a new shim, free of charge, which sorted it.

Isn’t there a 20mph speed limit in Richmond Park? I recall hearing about people getting pulled over by the rozzers for going too fast.

Regents Park is also a favourite. Very dull IMO, but there is an inormal chaingang often.

I live in North London and just ride out of town. Takes about 30mins to get into the lanes of Herts.

We asked about the collar and were told it was going to come down to 2% and then possibly lower if the Bank Of England continued to reduce it. They suggested the collar might be revised to 1% if it went to 0% interest rate.

We’ve got a Nespresso at the office.

I find it noisy, a faff to clean (not had experience of others), and have had to wait for the pods to arrive for over a week, although this might be down to the ‘extreme weather event’.

And the pods are expensive IMO.

There are no hard and fast rules on room size so ultimately it is down to what the client wants?

There are minimum standards but I think these might only apply to homes built using public funds, unless there are specific planning requirements for that particular site.

So yes, it is down to the client or rather developer, and if people keep on buying those houses then the developer will keep on building them.

IS it civil eng’s or architects that are making newbuilds the size of a kids shoebox with a postage stamp garden?

I think it might be the Developers.

OK, so it was masterplanning work, but we pitched at £95k, budget was £100k, and it was awarded to a pratice that tendered at £60k!

Understandable when even large practices are laying off 25% or so of their employees.

no we’re not and i should remind you that the addage ‘buy cheap buy twice’ works for professional fees as much as it does for bikes

Well, we’ve been undercut in several recent tenders by significant amounts, even when we’ve come in well under the guide budget, but that is in different sectors that are supposedly not being hit by the financial situation.

The quality of the builder has a lot to do with the poor state of our buildings. On the Continent they work to tollerances of a couple of mm’s, here it’s measured in inches.

However, as with any trade, there are some good and some bad Architects.

As others have said, be very clear about what you want. But the most important thing is don’t change your mind to late into the project, especially once it has started on site.

Sit and read the drawings very very carefully. If you don’t understand, ask them to explain it again or ask someone else. You really wouldn’t believe the number of clients that want to move walls once the foundations are already in.

I’m not involved in much domestic work at the moment, but do work on 15% of total build cost for all consultant fees – you should get that with the current market as all Architects are suffering so undercutting each other.

You’ll need to add on a bit extra for Planning, etc, and make sure you have a healthy contingency – you will spend it. On the subject of planning, you can pop into your local planning office and see a duty planner to get informal advice such as likelihood of permission being granted and specific restrictions that might be imposed.

I’m liking my Marmot Never Winter down bag that I bought last year.

Seems warm enough to me. Light, packs small, £135 in Cotswold.

Around 88 or thereabouts with a KHS. Razzing around woods was a nice alternative to the road and track.

Stopped shortly after, started again in 03/04.

I didn’t make it up the last weekend but heard that it was seriously muddy. And that means really, really muddy.

High Beach tends to be the place to park and mee up. It’s pretty central in the forest with plenty of routes in all directions.
