I’d be interested in tagging along, assuming my knee mends and I can get time off at home. I would most likely be riding out there from Shoreditch where I work.

Where are you based and how well do you know the woods?

Seems like there could be some concerns with overlooking and privacy for the show homes as they do seem like they might be close, but this needs a lot more detailed information such as where habitable rooms are and the distance between homes.

You might be able to influence site access if they can use the other exit from the roundabout, which will reduce the impact of construction a bit. However, there will always be noise and disruption.

You will get an opportunity to make representations during the statutory consultation period once a planning application has been lodged. Objections do need a basis in planning policy to carry weight.

    Have they achieved planning consent?

It sounds more like they are carrying out pre application consultation. If so, then there’s probably a chance that you can influence the proposals.

I paid £250 about 3 years ago for the same frame. Very happy with it. They build up into great bikes.

We tried for home births for both our two.

The first ended up being delivered in hospital due to it taking too long during labour. No real problem transferring to hospital and it all went smoothly once there. We were also sent home very quickly as we were meant to be a home birth.

Second was a breech birth so was at the hospital.

Both times we really benefited from the extra care levels that the home birth team give you that Jason describes.

Several of our friends have had very successful homes births, including first timers. Plenty of babies aren’t born in hospital.

I just sent home from a meeting in Goodge Street. People working in buildings around there were being told to go home by the Police.

Rode back via Camden, Kentish Town and Archway. Police on the streets the entire way and probably half the shops shut or with shutters down, even in Crouch End!

Very weird atmosphere out and about.

I fixed mine recently – I’m not an electrician.

Bought the element directly from the manufacturer for £25 or so. It took 30mins to install and works fine.

I’ve been planning the same but its tough as we live in London and I’m not sure I can manage bike + trailer + 2.5 yr old on a train to get out of town.

Have a look at the Vango kids sleeping bags. I think it cost me £20 and should be fine for years. She loves it. She also loves her sleeping mat which is an alpkit 3/4 one that happily serves me for bivvy trips 😉

Try Park Tools site. They have pretty good guides for setting up everything.

I used one of these for quite a few years

Should easily fit everything you list. Using a smaller one now and was going to put it up on the classified. Mail me if you’re interested in it.

I live close by in Crouch End.

Epping Forest is pretty close and is dry and dusty at the moment but will turn into gloop with the slightest drop of rain. The riding there isn’t brilliant but fun enough for a spin.

A cross bike is best if you have one. Faster to get out of town and onto the bridleways in Herts. 25mins or so and you will be out into country lanes.

There was an article in Cycling Weekly a few weeks back where they bodged 105 to work with Di2. It didn’t work out cheap to do but did work.

LoCo, I’ve got the pink issue with my little girl. We got her this. She is very quick on it now. Frighteningly. She stared riding it at 2 but now at 2.5 the size is perfect.

Unfortunately, Old Street roundabout is often hard to avoid if you’re going east to west in that area.

It isn’t normally but these were very loose gravel and bumpy so it was out of the saddle for most of the time, which is tough after the climbs and distance.

tlr – light is good and don’t believe the marshals when they say the finish is just around the corner.

I completed it on an 80mm plastic HT last year. Nowhere near the front but got around OK. The fast loose gravel fire road descents were probably the hardest part on a HT.

As above, plus the 10% discount at nearly all bike shops and 15% off at Cotswold is nice too.

Mail me if you want a PDF of it. Someone off here sent me it earlier this year. We did most of the route but cut across the North Downs / Surrey Hills to make it more interesting.

Not much off road through central London.

Queens Wood isn’t really worth it. The longest descent takes about 1.5 mins and can only really be done at night. Its a dog walkers place.

There are also some small jumps next to Highgate tube, but again not really worth traveling far to get to.

You can link Parkland Walk, Queens Wood, Parkland Walk extension and Ally Pally into a loop, which is OK for a 40min night ride.

Epping can be good. It was very slippery last night and will be awful after the weekend, but is about the best to be had within riding distance of that part of North London.

Otherwise head out towards Herts on bridleways then try Broxbourne and so on.

One de-bonded on a ride this summer whilst in Spain. It must have been about 35 degrees. Changed the tube but that also had a patch on it which only lasted 10km. Luckily I had another spare.

    They were Park patches.

I flew with them last month and they didn't bother to weigh the bike box heading out from Standsted or returning from Perpignan.

I guess I might have just been lucky, but I've never had it weighed whichever airline.

Just make sure you print out your boarding passes. They charge £40 if you forget.

    Do you really need one?

If they're not crawling then its not really needed IMO. We went with our daughter when she was 11 months and she just slept on a WeeAiric next to us. She was just starting to walk but had no chance of reaching the zips to get out of the tent.

I read recently that a TfL survey found that 80% of cyclists did stop. However we are much more likely to notice those that don't.

I stop for the record, but also understand why some don't at some junctions / lights.

Maybe, but I have a cool scar.

I was told not to start the strengthening until I got as full a range of movement as possible. That's what took the time for me.

It wasn't until almost November (accident in July) before I was told to start weights, which was a tin of baked beans to start with.

I broke my olecranon in July 09 crashing. Blew the ball off and fractured the bone in a couple of places. Also fractured a rib, which led to a collapsed lung.

I had a plate and five screw put in the day after. Then 4 weeks in plaster, followed by three months or more of physio to get movement back.

I could only bend my arm about 30 degrees at first! But now I can fully bend my arm but am probably 5 degrees off fully straightening it and can't lock the arm out. I also get some arthritic pain now and again, excruciating pain if I knock it.

I've been back on the bike since around March, on and off road. No real problems, it's just weak and I can't lean on the metalwork. The skin is also very sensitive.

Just got back from the hospital and the metalwork is being taken out in October. Its not completely necessary, but is a good idea in case I break it again. I'll be off the bike for a month whilst the bone fills the holes.

It has taken some time to heal but doesn't really impact on me now. Well, apart from being slightly more cautious on descents. Kielder 100 will be the real test.

    Good luck

Perhaps try asking at Banjo Cycles

I think they might have a shop ride. They certainly have a shop team.

Or try Pedalon, but that might be too far.

I have a PDF of a route (sent to me by Pyschie). I think it might be the BHF one. My email is in my profile.

I used it as the basis of a slightly different one that went over the North Downs before linking with the Downs Link, as we wanted some hills and something interesting to ride.

We started in Richmond heading along the Thames then turned south over the Downs. We bivvied on the South Downs close to Brighton and then rode to Eastbourne the next day. It came in as 110 miles in the end for the two days.

I've got a googlemap of it somewhere if you want.

Cotswold Camping do them, but Stanfords have a more complete range.

Nowhere near as good as OS maps.

I believe HGV's aren't allowed on the roads at certain times. I think it might apply to Saturdays and Sunday, but I can't remember.

Trim is in the Basic Tools or Shift-Option-L.

I've not heard of extend. Can't you just use the Object Info palette if you need to do it by a specific amount?

Sadly Epping is the only option without transport, although I do occasionally do a bridleway loop around Bayford. Otherwise its on the road bike out into Herts and Essex.

Off to Epping this evening as I need to get the miles in for the Kielder 100. Amazingly it was dry and dusty last week. Probably not now.
