been using mine quite a lot fr the last three months… i think the only issue i have is the shifting from second gear to first, particular when you need it on a sharp steep climb – it doesn’t like it under load – i tend to back off now from mashing up a climb when it won’t change as it has skipped resulting in a near bollocks/stem accident….

for me the pick up issue is only present in the low gears but nothing like a quarter turn of the crank

are you doing the service yourself?

did a loop of the red this evening; it was lightly snowing but wasn’t really settling on the ground, everything was ridable including the logs

    temperature was about -1 degrees

TBH – i find the snow makes it a little more interesting….

from personal experience avoid the minutes with absolute damping, the TPC version is much better, TA on them is very stiff

the F29 120mm 15mm TA fork probably won’t be around until 2010 at the earliest

white brothers produce 29er forks in 110mm, 130mm and 135mm travel options

the new Marzocchi 44 29er fork will come with 100-140mm adjustable travel and the 15mm TA system, don’t know when its available though

yes the reba does come in 120mm travel and 20mm maxle lite form

32 up front, you can get different size rear cogs if the gearing is too tough; i run 32-20 on a 29er

chainline on mine isn’t perfect, but if you get the nexus rear cog instead of an alfine one, the nexus cogs are dished and can be turned around to adjust the chainline by a few mm – only different is the alfine ones comes with a plastic chain guard on them which seems to catch mud/straw etc.

probably an 18T, but ask your supplier

run a 9 speed on mine

my 2007 Orange Five came with Fox 32 Float 140 QR forks and they were VERY flexy, i quite often found myself fighting with the steering as they did not track very well, nice and plush but 140mm travel and QR’s didn’t do it for me

now running pike air u-turn forks and these are much better, the increased axel to crown height of the pikes is not an issue, and according to the orange 2007 website this model of the five is best suited to a 150mm fork and warrantied up to a 160mm one

no experience of the fox 15mm TA model

had a yellow chopper just like this one; it was great, used to ride everywhere on it, even offroad in calverley woods, resulting in a couple of trips to A&E…

not all the areas near speke are grim; i used to rent a flat next to calderstones park and then a big house in grassendale in the surburbs

found that everything south of grassendale is rough as **** though

llandegla conditions are nearly always the complete opposite of chester! It can be sunny and warm when i live my house yet snowing and icy on the trails round llandegla (its on the north facing side of a valley) and its in wales…. ;)

i few of the chester riders went over to the clywds on wednesday night and the amount of snow still on the slopes was amazing – a planned 16km ride turned into a 5km long snowball fight/hike a bike session…

sorry not mine; i’ve a custom lynskey / ti29er / sultan and I am lusting over a ferrous at the moment – so there is no more room in the inn…..!

i did a thorough search for information and that is all I can find about that bike, suggest a call in to hotlines to check whether those dimensions are correct

nige – the on one wheels are still £30 cheaper than the CRC ones mind….

the latest ferrous has completely different geometry to the new rigs (G2 models) so check first – older model information is on the GF website – the ferrous has an eccentric BB

alternatives include the on one 29er frame – will work with the alfine and is steel, plus a slot dropout scandal will be along shortly plus there are singular, niner, surly, vassago, salsa to name a few other manufacturers

also been looking into this as the frame is a bargain; very little on the web though – a search on mtbr found some basis geometry information but no frame angles

viper seem to have offered ‘the 29’ as a complete bike and the spec has narrow rims and tyres therefore mud clearance may be an issue – the lengths mentioned on this website seem very long…..!
