    sorry karl couldn’t resist…

the rough ride is a proper big day out as mt states; can’t say i’d fancy those climbs on a SS though (i did the long route last year)

ha! sorry but it is nothing like the dyfi!

dyfi = slatey, rocky descents, fire road climbs in the forest
rough ride = miles and miles of open moorland

daffy – there is a wheel weight calculator on the US notubes website if that helps http://www.notubes.com/wheel_weight.php

i use the 29er arch and flow rims and find them very stout indeed and not floppy – funny enough i’ve found that DT rims are quite soft, easily dinged and a bugger to fit tyres to… each to our own…

arch rims are fine for XC (weigh 470g each)

thoroughly enjoyed last years event; i had been building up the marathon fitness last year and wanted to do the 100km but alas i was too slow and missed the cut off point and had to settle with the 75km’er… though at the time wasn’t that bothered…

good atmosphere, cracking descents, some sections of the innerleithen trail were included in previous selkirk, long climbs and varied conditions – it rained quite a bit i remember last year ;) and on the last descent (which seeming to go on forever) watch out for photographers lurking near deep water crossings – they are deeper than you think!

    get some long rides in!

i have the 2009 19″ version set up singlespeed

the frame is very comfortable/compliant; the steep head angle makes the handling very twitchy/racey, but if your local riding is suited to this (like mine is around delamere) it is excellent

what conditions will you be riding them in? it makes a huge difference…

trail centres = racing ralphs / crossmarks / rampages
muddy/gloopy forests = jones acx or mud x

if your trails are clay mud, AVOID the ignitors!

i’ve tried the absolute 100mm TA ones but i really didn’t like the harsh damping feel, i also had trouble setting them up and felt nothing like a F29 or Reba, either too hard or really soft – so I have parted with them good looking forks, very stiff and loads of clearance though…

i do get on with the minute TPC forks; much better (IMO) damping feel and easy to set up – got a 26er minute elite tpc TA 120mm one and its great

i like my 29er versions but they are no mud tyre… actually used mine on the rear for some time over this past xmas break when it was dry/icy – they are off the bike now waiting for drier times

they aren’t has fast as the RR’s but they appear to be a lot tougher
