i use a 591 and a 511-1 – that are on the roof of the car all the time, both are around five years old as well

the 591 arm (right at he clamp end) is showing signs of corrosion and doesn't freely extend and the internal spring mechanism doesn't work very well at all now

so its time for a change shortly

if its just the bearing that has seized just replace it with an £8 SKF bearing (size is 6801-2RS)

profit margins on forks aren't huge

nonsense imo, but as an afterthought are you referring to the manufacturer or shop margin?

    for example – rrp on 2010 36 Talas £929, yet i paid £599

    and

merlin can sell 1.5" Lyrik Coils for £399, rrp is quoted as £865 – but the 1 1/8" model is £720 !!

    and

one reba fork i was interested in buying last year from CRC increased in price by 27% overnight -WTF

maybe it is a combination of – margins / exchange rates / raw material costs / increased cost of living reducing sales? but the major companies must be noticing the reduced sale of non-oem kit

done it on a heckler with pikes, then a patriot with 66's a year later

reckon a five with 36's would be ideal tbh, i've just put a set of 36's on my five and i really like the slacker head angle

i you are heavy on the brakes, a coil on the back would also improve things for this 30km event over an air shock

another ferrous (but with matching cat)

extended the forks to 100mm and has proper handlebars now

i think it may be ton but not wise without longer stanchions

I've changed my F29 RL 80mm fork to 100mm in the past by removing the spacer but that is because the F29 80mm and 100mm fork are basically the same product, a 120mm F29 fork is different as it is a little heavier due to a beefed up crown and longer stanchions and 15QR

i've read on mtbr that someone has removed the plastic spacer and also moved the pin-set stop back to the other hole in the stem and the the shock stretched out to 120mm but whether this risks not having enough support through the bushings i do really do not know

had mine pushed/serviced by TFTuned last year

didn't really make any change with blowing through the mid-range of its travel, its appears to be more active and gives up more travel than it used to

10 miles rough canal track each way – although commuting largely restricted now due to home working

alfined 29er with wide bonty xdx's – found i was only using the two highest gears, so SS'ed it to 32 x 13 which is 71 gear inches

generally mine has had most use as a commuter along muddy canal tracks, but i did do MM2009 with no problems at all (29er alfined slot dropout scandal)

running a nexus sprocket (either 18 or 20) to get a better chainline

compared to a SS, then yes the weight is noticeable – just depends if you really care about it

i've kinda thought of this as well, but part of me believes there isn't enough profit in it due to the all the other on ones, dialled, ragley, cotic, curtis, sanderson, genesis companies doing a similar thing

use flow and arch rims and never had such an issue….? maybe its a Intense/ Specialized tyre issue instead?

DT rims are also known to be tight though, plus the EX500's are narrower than the flows

i'd probably just done this and deal with the rain

but a 440mm fork will fit a larger 29er tyre such as a halo twin rail 2.2 tyre

just a bit of helicopter tape under the swingarm sorts any chain slap, a lizard skinz or inner tube looks terrible imo
