this happened to me 18 months ago

£3k bike nicked, insurance paid out £3k, ended up on ebay, police recovered

police held on the bike until I had paid the insurer £1k (via the loss adjuster) for the reduced value bike (a few new scratches, and minus my eggies)

loss adjuster then contacted police to sign it off that the bike was now my possession

tried the F29, Reba (old and new) and Minute Absolute TA – all 100mm

    the winner is the F29

clearance is very poor on the new rebas if you like 2.4 RR's

the absolute damper on my minutes was utter crap (if you go minute get the tpc damper)

got a mate in a nice tree lined avenue in chester who, upon moving into this new house started tidying up the large garden, at the end was huge hedge (in poor condition) about 5m high but it is on his land

started pruning it (take the top 1m off) and the neighbour promptly threatened him with beating if he continued any further!

now this bloke is a fairly good natured teacher and his wifey a copper; so was a little taken back at he first contact with a neighbour whose garden simply backs on to his

lets just say the hedge has been pruned and contact not kept 🙂

some people can be c**ts – when all that is needed is a polite chat

    report to the police

tell you new neighbour to stay off your land in future and the police have noted that past criminal damage has been recorded

    replace the tree with these

a captured iraq t55 outside the imperial war museum in manchester

its not a huge tank, but the thought of that thing coming at you in the heat of battle if you were in the infantry is somewhat disturbing

they are relatively new, and not in stock at crc yet

a cheaper alternative would be a bash ring (say £35 for a raceface one) and a blackspire stinger (£23)

i'm avoiding Fords next time round at their CO2 ratings and list prices are excessive compared to their rivals

none of them are working on completely eliminating the total deficit though

hasn't the uk always been in deficit? in 1988 is was £197bn, seem to remember john major's government reduced it to something £25bn in the early ninties during the last recession (selling things?) and set up the happy times for blair and brown to blow it

and those percentages on that fancy diagram don't appear to add up to the percentages reported either – 20% of £167bn is £33.4bn

mine is five years old this week!

    april 2005

    on holiday

    latest piccy

been though a few components since then – four different forks, three different brakes, two saddles, two bars/stems, two cranks, two wheelsets, two sets of mechs, two headsets – lost count of how many chains/cassettes/rings/cables etc.

So, button pressed and push'd van r on the way from tft.

i'll be interested to know how you get on crag and how long it'll take for tftuned to get you the pushed van r, i think their website did note some of the pushed products were out of stock (but that may have recently changed)

got to laugh at some of the shite some people write on these threads though, having owned two TNT turners in the past, I now own two oranges and prefer an orange (especially with a coil fitted) so maybe the haters should elaborate further on how I obviously can't ride properly… go on please..

crag – make sure you come back on with some feedback and piccies 🙂

generally much cheaper if you get your solicitor to organise it (not your estate agent)

mine has just cost me £182, as the solicitor i use includes it in their service – the £182 figure is simply for the disbursements (i.e. searches, energy assessment etc)

    no…

this won't change your mind though…. you'll still buy them, decide they are not for you, sell them on the classifieds, then slag them off on this forum….

thats the normal process isn't it? 😉

mr50 – yes it will make a positive difference (set up properly), i've upgraded a 2008 patriot from the manitou evolver 4 shock (which i liked) to a cheapo vivid coil crc was selling earlier this year and it made a massive change

staying on topic – what are the typical prices for these high performing coil shocks then?

    Pushed Van R is £250
    Bos Stoy is £608
    Elka Stage 5?
    Avalanche Chubie?
    CCDB? guessing £600-ish

i'd like to try push mx-tuned van r on an orange five but it still appears to be a long time until push gets the parts…

used to run 90mm on most bikes, but have recently gone shorter with a 65mm on my orange five and a 70mm on a turner sultan and these have been fine

but really struggling with the most recent change on my cotic soul, 90mm to 70mm, now my 27" bars feel too narrow, i can't climb any steep technical bits (weights too far back) and long steep descents are horrible, it feels like i'm kissing the front wheel… confused!

last years spring marathon was very dry for the two week before the event (although cold) and this led to an amazing marathon generally located north-east of builth wells on some ace sheep tracks and moorland, but previous years events (2007 and 2008) have been mud fests and the route is on the usual bridleways and forests south of builth wells, just a pity about the final road section (must have been about 9km on road)

i tend not to enter until the last week (as i'd rather not spend £30 on a crap route in the mud) but i do believe they leave the final routes open until nearer the event just to take into account of the recent weather
