spent ages getting blisters on my hands playing daley thompsons decathlon

handlebars were the perfect shape to allow you to safely miss them and faceplant on tarmac when you went over the bars – and i did, several times

hours of fun sending evel down the stairs much to my parents annoyance

quite happy with 2×9 24/36 chainset with a 32-11 cassette for my riding needs

i find triples a bit of a waste (just don’t use the big ring enough)

find 1×9 suitable for some places but not others

i generally prefer wider UST tyres myself and have quite a collection now..

not UST but tubeless ready – the bontrager XR4’s are big volume and weight in at 700g

GT72 – i must have heavyweight ardent lust 2.25 tyres as mine are no where near 645g but 820g each <tyre geek mode off>

Chunkypaul…thanks for your reply. Looks like i’ll be able to make it tomorrow. How do i find out the meeting point? ( :-)I have seen Dave’s email earlier on the thread but don’t like to just email.)

    Beccy

hiya – you don’t have an e-mail address on your profile so i can’t contact you with a map link; so best if you send an email to dave 🙂

    he doesn’t bite… honest 😉

I want a slightly firmer spring I reckon, see about ordering one tomorrow… more wonga!

spoke to Loco last month about this – beginning of Dec was the anticipated date when they would be available to order from fishers

anyone know how quickly the sektors bed in?

first ride on my 150mm coil u-turn sektors this evening (with the stock spring) and i was expecting it to be sag-tastic and it kinda was with 50mm sag but they still felt quite good and never got anyway near full travel

but also know guys who swear by it as being great now they have had it done; but i wouldn’t let them anywhere near me with a lazer

As far as I know the rev doesnt come in a 2 step version.

not 2 step (hydraulic) stuart, but dual position (air spring)

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=54605

i’ve tried a 2009 talas 32 140mm fork – wasn’t that impressed with it and sold it on, hoping the 20mm 150-120mm will be a better fork for my HT

the fox is stupidly high maintenance compared to a RS fork, i also have a 2010 RLT Ti 150mm fork and it is very nice now it has bedded in and i’ve found the sweet spot with the air pressures, although the dual position version is solo air spring system so slightly different

still running the LUST version on the rear of the FS bike – for trail centre riding only, can’t imagine it will cope with clywd mud at all

a true 2.25″ width size and large volume tyre, rolls well, dropped the pressure a bit now so it has stopped spinning out on greasy rock climbs, its not light – about 820g but has thick sidewalls

    quite like ’em

but is it actually a 40% cut in the claim or 40% deduction in a stupid RRP figure that doesn’t relate to how much you can buy kit for or relate to the discount wheeles/crawfords/insurer actually get?

I found Crawfords service very poor, in fact so poor i simply delayed and waited (burglary in Nov, settlement in Feb) until they flagged it up and started chasing me for a conclusion – i believe they probably have performance related customer service periods to settle within and anything after this gets noted on their records with the insurance company

i had three bikes taken, a standard orange five and two self build HT’s and decided that i wanted two bikes out of the assessed sum and i got a part cash settlement (for the two frames – a lynskey and turner) and new replacement parts from wheelies for the build) – thinking back on it they were terrible – i had to pass on all my proof of receipts etc to Wheelies myself for the assessment (which was up to Crawfords to do and wasted 2 weeks in the process), and then Crawfords still didn’t believe that i’d built the HT’s up until i provided them with record photographs as well

have you tried speaking to your insurer on your experiences with Crawfords or asked for an alternative loss adjuster to deal with the claim?

classic – just been out on the Dee Loop this afternoon and a cyclist gave me grief for riding on the wrong side of the the cycle path!

well if your dopey wife, her pashley and utter lack of balance had not of been all over the 4m wide, flat and straight path i wouldn’t have to slow down to a walking pace and pass her on the right would I?

my response was, i admit, poor, and only consisted of two words – but you can’t win with some people

even the two hoodies on a moped I later rode past on the cycle path rode more appropriately…. and they were riding like they just stole it!

i have a 07 150bhp SRi company car (averages 43mpg with roof bars and bike racks permanently on the roof) , it failed its first MOT with a problem with the brakes – nice…

cons – occasional cruise control failures, coolant pump disintegrated 6 months ago, car interior looked dated even when it was brand new, external appearances look like shite totally agree with the lack of storage, i previously had an avensis t-spirit which although was the same size-ish the avensis had a bigger boot, more storage holes and better rear leg room

pro’s – nice torquey engine, handles well, firm ride (likes being driven hard on county lanes),

its due for replacement next month (3.5 years old, 85,000 miles on it now – but i won’t be picking a vauxhall again

do you prefer longer reach bikes?

i’m the same height and prefer bikes with a longer eff. TT and have a 2008 Hummer 19″ and find it too short for me – its an absolute hoot going downhill but i prefer something longer on the climbs (also got a large soul)

so its just been stripped for a new build so is now a very expensive wall ornament

they are completely different geometry and ride quite differently fwiw, the cove handles better with a shorter stem (70mm max)
