I stopped riding there (Surrey Hills) at weekends in about 2004. Became unbearable after that. Luckily I don’t really work normal office hours so can often ride there during the week – which is heaven.

Completely understand how the land owners feel… and local residents.

I did a week of riding in Zermatt 10 years ago. We got the odd moan (mainly from German walkers). But we had good guides who knew where and more importantly when to ride.

That noise you describe sometimes comes from a jet engine throttling back.

Put a bit of grease in the cups and on the bearing.

Can you just try and nip up the preload a bit? That noise would usually mean a loose stack.
