I’ve got an M-Audio MIDI keyboard with weighted keys that I bought for that very reason. Didn’t work for me, sticking with guitars. I can dig it out if you’re interested – no packaging, manuals or anything. Your profile says Weegieland, I’ll be passing through in a couple of weeks if you want to try it out.

Doing one. Not for work, I’ll probably have retired before it’s done. Working out time is the biggest thing. I knew I’d struggle but take one weekend a month away catching up. Youth Hostel membership helps a lot.

Orkney Wireless Museum[/url] for the star attraction – the first TV on Orkney built by two brothers called Twatt. Being told how the Twatts built a telly was pretty good. The telly on display isn’t the original one as built by the Twatt brothers, but a replica, built by the daughter of one of the Twatts. Whose name wasn’t Emma

The press and public witch hunt is appalling and counterproductive

He tried to get his licence back after the accident, so he obviously thought that passing out and killing 6 people wasn’t a bad thing.
The PF isn’t going to charge him, so he walks away unpunished, even though he has a history of passing out and shouldn’t have been driving.
To protect himself, he refuses to apologise to the families.

    I don’t see what’s counterproductive

Are we meant to say the enemy cannot shoot at our troops when we invade?

Of course, we’re Brits don’chaknow? Those Johnny Foreigner types should consider it an honour and a privilege to be tortured, have their homes bombed and their families killed by us.

Apeks 200M divers watch around £70.
Analogue, seiko movement I think. Glass is recessed so tends not to scratch. I do use it to dive as a backup to a dive computer, rinse it post-dive then wear it as a day to day watch so I’d say it’s fairly tough
    hand luminosity is pretty good.
Battery seems to last about 3 years, cost £12 to replace but that included pressure testing to 100M
Calendar has 31 days so dates need to be manually changed on the 1st of a month following a month with less than 31 days.

Go light – up to a minute
Driving – no issues because the windscreen blocks the UV radiation which darkens the glasses. You might want to keep a pair of sunnies in the car

The Liberal Democrats must be absolutely loving this, from a position of facing total obscurity they are right back in the game

I don’t suppose there’d be any point in asking if you’ve ever tried thinking for yourself rather than just parroting other people’s posts?

I’ve just finished a glass of Kilchoman – a small farm-based distillery on Islay which grows and malts it’s own barley as well as bottling the drink on site. The ultimate STW drink.
When I can be arsed standing up and going to the kitchen I’ll pour one of Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Laphroaig, Mortlach or Singleton of Glen Ord (not sold in Britain apart from the distillery, bugger meant to buy a bottle when up in Inverness at the weekend)

EDIT – Lagavulin 16 it is. Could do with some decent dark chocolate though

You’re looking for the constellation Perseus

Cassiopeia is a W shape pretty much overhead and to the north.
Algol, the Alpha star in Perseus is a binary with a red giant being orbited by a white dwarf, Sometimes it’s a big red, easily identifiable star, sometimes less so. It’s a 7 day cycle and if I hadn’t had quite as much to drink, I’d go outside and let u=you know where we are. Anyway, peak show for the Perseids IIRC is Monday with a predicted around 100 ZHr (100 shooting stars an hour)

BTW, Algol represents the eye of the Gorgon, Medusa, who could turn a man to stone looking at him. Perseus slew the Gorgon by not looking directly at but used his shield as a mirror. He took it’s head off, returned to court, took the head out of it’s bag and promptly turned the evil queen Cassiopeia to stone and in so doing won the hand of the king’s daughter, Andromeda

Go and have a look around the Suomenlinna

Most of a day taken care of.
Pick up a map and plan a visit to the submarine Vesikko. The walk from the main ferry stop and back will cover most of the islands. The sub itself is 5Euro (+1 to add the war museum), and is well worth a visit – ask the guide what the crew was.
Do NOT eat the little fish people will offer you samples of in Kauppatori Market (give one to the missus and watch her face if you want a laugh and don’t mind a period of not talking)

What makes you think you have the right to tell someone what to do in this case

I didn’t want to be discussing the morality of this, but as far as I’m concerned when you walk away, you’re gone and running back at the sniff of money is not something to be proud of.

ahhh, sometimes talking clarifies the issue. Yes, I bet I have to sign to release the funds because I’m in the will and that means some of the money’s mine so I need to agree to it being spent. Not a well off family and I’d be very surprised if they had the readies to fund a funeral.
So maybe I sign over my share to wife #2 and my hands are washed of the whole thing.
    Probable result
    Thanks folks

Ignore the communication the, if they can’t afford the funeral themselves then its not your problem.

True but.. it’s hardly fair to leave a grieving family to deal with the costs of a funeral, which isn’t a cheap thing AFAIK. Which is why I’d sign to release the money if it’s not going to get me more involved. Which is why I’ve asked for legal advice

This will all come out during probate but I do hope that if you are named in the will you don’t accept any part of the estate that comes your way.

What I want is a continuation of the past 25 years – nothing, which is why I’m looking to walk away from everything.
FWIW, I am oldest son, but #2 son stayed in touch. Wife #2 stayed married to him and if she copped the lot, she’d deserve it and I wouldn’t have any problem with anything coming my way being directed to her.

there were some folk who seemed to make a career out of abusing sick leave

This. IME the NHS does appear to take a hostile attitude to high sickness rates when sending out standard letters. I left a job and one of my former staff came to see me and showed me a letter he’d got referring to his high absenteeism rate. The tonme of the letter implied he was swinging it, and that’s what I saw in it, it wasn’t just him over reacting. He had leukemia and was still adjusting to the drug routine as well as the fact that he might not be around much longer and had to tell his family about it, I felt strongly enough to write to HR about it suggesting that that kind of language might not be appropriate in encouraging someone back to work,
Anyway, I’d suggest you (try to) ignore the toe of the communication you’ve been getting and bear in mind that the NHS is extremely unlikely to bin someone because of legitimate absences.
Also, talk to the union for advice re timing and notice of meetings.

    All the best with it

Not entirely relevant, but crossing the road at a set of traffic lights, a car stops and the driver is eating a pizza.
I should have taken a picture and made sure he saw me doing it but didn’t and am kicking myself for not.
And am far wronger than the OP and his ranting at an idiot
