I very rarely contribute to these threads, but..

. I now it sounds lame

see that, well, IMHO, the best advice you can get and the best things you can do just now will seem to be the lamest. You’ll probably want to do SOMETHING but don’t know what, and being desperate to do something will do something that makes things worse. You seem to keeping a lid on things, even if it’s hard to do that – just keep focussed on the kids and what’s best for them – remember this can b a serously frightening and confusing time for them
Other than, what to do next, that’s up to you. Probably nothing for the time being, just get your heard sorted out, once you can see beyond the shock and the pain, you’ll be in a better place to look ahead – which all sounds completely lame, I know
I hope things work out for you

    life is too short.

certainly will be long as cars hitting cyclists is perceived as acceptable behaviour

Ft William, surfing’s not quite on the doorstep, but if you want hills

If it’s surfing first, probaby Oban, more water oriented, great sailing and kayaking with the awesome surf of Tiree a short(ish) ferry trip away.
    Both towns served by trains

If you mean that in my experience I encountered a lot of very poor teachers, who really didn’t give a **** about the children, then how will feigning stupidity help with this?

    I don’t think you’re faking it.

film’s good, but you really need to read the book. more on the fights with “powers” and much more on the demons he carries with him.

He’s really popular in Scotland – would you mind sending him back because I don’t think we’d quite finished telling him how much we appreciate him.

oh, I read that as sheep

Anyway, I can always pick the wrong queue to stand in a supermarket. not particularly useful unless you enjoy standing behind someone who doesn’t seem to understand how to use money or how to operate their wallet/purse

You are missing the point. If you ban ALL holidays, you are stopping people having good educational experiences as well as null ones.

No-one’s suggesting banning ALL holidays, only the ones that stop kids from going to school. Or do you only have “educational experiences” during term time?
And, and I might have missed this, how come a caravanning holiday on a campsite means you have to take time off school? Don’t the ferries run and caravan sites open when the schools are off?

Just because some people don’t have educational holidays for their kids, doesn’t mean no-one everyone does.

As already pointed out, you don’t seem to grasp that not everyone has your values – maybe you missed those classes?

I missed 3 months off school when I was 10 with hepatitis. I’m still here, I didn’t turn into someone who lost the ability to read and write in the time off

maybe not, but you do seem to be someone who doesn’t understand the most basic rules of supply and demand, which most 15 year olds can grasp.
Still, you’re poor, you’re happy and you want the same for your kids, and poverty isn’t the hardest thing in the world to acheive, is it, so you probably think you’re a success.

I have one, full time dad. Best job in the world. Beats money, material wealth or career ambition every time.

Does it beat being able to afford a holiday without interfering with your child’s education?

I’m just off to convince someone to sell me a bottle of rare wine and a vintage car for the price is some plonk and a Fiesta, only fair after all…..

call police and report it as insurance fraud? A visit from them to the registered address of the van might make them decide their neck has cleared up.

Plus my kids see far more of their dad than most. Life’s good.

They enjoy listening to you whinging abut how much it costs to take them on holidays you can’t afford?

I’m sure I’ll be fined, I’ll live with that. Still much much cheaper.

Right on dude – after all, it’s not like your kids need educating, is it?

So I’ll give them a holiday, because they deserve one, it’s not their fault that I’m a ****.

Doubly right on dude, the world needs more uneducated ****s.

I don’t have kids. I take my holidays when I feel like and get some great deals – wanna hear about last year and the 4 star hotel that chucked in a couple of days scuba diving beacuse it was out of kiddie season?

Fact is, you feel the way you feel and you shouldn’t need to justify it.

If someone getting paid £300000 a week to kick a ball about a field inspires such precious examples of wit and originality, it’s money well spent, and you can tell your carer I said so.
