Only 1 Batman could fight off a shark..
Always came across as a top bloke in interviews, RIPChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberJust picked up an Auchentoshan American Wood for £20,
Asda had that at £25 the oher week – got a bottle, it is lovely. So thanks for that
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberThe Trumpet went to Europe and was treated like the half wit he is. I think he thought he was going to be popular, loved, slapped on the back and told what a great guy he is, and of course Germany will stop selling cars to America. None of which happened. He was laughed at and treated like an imbecile. So he stomped off inthe huff and chucked his toys out of the pram. Paris Agreement? Representing Philadelphia not Paris? Putting America first? Rubbish, it just the Trumpet doing what he does – behaving like a petulant child
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberSurely someone has told trump that the biggest threat to American jobs is automation? Which can happen in any country.
Simple people like simple answers = blame the foreigners. Stop them job done. Automation and technology? more difficult to deal with, **** it, blame the foreigners.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberMeanwhile, in the comments section – spread your wings and fly little troll, fly
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberMy circle of friends would never address me as “Hun”, let alone ask if I was “ok” without full use of the word “You”.
Ok you hun? Where I come from, that’s an invitation to partake in fisticuffs.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberA local huntin’ shootin’ fishin’ shop (now sadly gone) sold me a rod, reel, line and some lures for £50 (rod and reel second hand) then took me to a park for about half an hour’s time on how to cast. The guy who showed me this said some people can just cast, others can’t and that I’d find out pretty quick once I started aiming for things which I was. If the latter, he recommended a couple of places to take lessons. He also sold me a permit for access to certain areas of a couple of rivers for (get this people in England) £20. FOR A YEAR. With fish stocked into the river*. I’m a completely rubbish angler and probably would benefit from some lessons but I don’t care. A day on the riverbank clocking the birds, butterflies and fish I can’t catch is still just a really pleasant day out and escape from whatever nonsense is going on elsewhere. Anyway, my advice, find a decent shop where they don’t treat you like an idiot, listen to their advice and find out what your options are on places to fish.
* Strathmore Anglers Improvement Association – only useful for people in Dundee and Angus though. Price has gone up t £25. I’d be outraged if it wasn’t still excellent value for moneyChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberIt’s a Merkur Futur for me.A bit spendy, but a Lovely Thing with great weight and balance. Also adjustble. The “Day The Earth Stood Still” look is a bonus.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberThe Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sanmartino in the Chapel of Sansevero is the most extraordinary work of art I’ve ever seen.
Could not agree more.
Also the archaeological museum is worth half a day, but worth visiting for the Farnese Bull and some weird animal porn from PompeiiAnd a wander up the via dei Tribunali or Spaccanapoli at night, just for the buzz
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree Member2 weeks “use it or lose it” holidays starting Monday. Some gardening (embarrasing levels of neglect), pick up dinghy from N England so having a day out in Whitby, up to Arisaig for a day or two, catch up with some Open Uni stuff ‘cos I’m way behind, fix TV aerial that has lost channels since storm back in Nov (don’t watch much TV but would like to watch any Attenborough stuff in HD), fix up ancient seagull engine for dinghy, go for a hurl on steam train, take bike and… bugger back to work already?
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberNope, but born there and lived just outside until a couple of years ago. Redmex covers it, apart from a lack of decent pubs. No shortage of restaurants and outdoors stuff though.
Fancy cycling to here? Kinnoull Hill – minutes from the town centreChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberI bought a new (to me) car 2 weeks ago. They offered more than WeBuyAnyCar (who hadn’t seen the car and didn’t know about the dings on the bodywork so would probably have reduced their price) and the dealer was having a sale. No danger on the haggling for money front but got a (possibly worthless) extended warranty, next 2 MoTs, next 2 services and 6 months insurance against loss of keys. Pretty happy.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree Member“Eh? What has the historic origin of previous attacks got to do with the likely origin of future attacks? Or are you suggesting the US should also ban the Japanese just in case they want another crack at it.”
The World Trade Centre attack as organised and carried out by Saudis was an act of Islamic terrorism, in fact the largest terrorist attack of any description carried out in America – unless you don’t think so.
The “Muslim ban” is supposedly to protect America from actsd of Islamic terrorism – or not. Maybe it’s just the so-called President pandering to his racist bigoted following.
Japan has no history of acts of Islamic terrorism, unless there was some Japanese involvement in the Bowling Green massacre? Maybe you can clarify the exact details of who was involved, the Internet seems remarkably short on detail there.ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberJambalaya when and how do you say Obama banned immigration from Iraq ?
Wasn’t it about the same time as the Bowling Green massacre?
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberYou could always abandon any pretense of responsible parenting for about £20 – Smokey Amps
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberMy dentist is private. He seems to be doing very well with people coming over from all other regions to get him to fix their tooth.
If they only have one tooth that doesn’t say much about your dentist or our model of private healthcare.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberDoes he have enough musicians to play 3?
Oh yes, and you know, they’re gonna be the best, i can’t say who they’ll be because, well trust me i know these people and they’re great. and you know what, the mexicans will pay because, well trust me it’s gonna just be great and it’s gonna be great because people love me and..
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberTrust me he is not remotely embarrassed.

#jambafactChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberI consider Mike Pence to be a deeply dangerous man who is considerably less trustworthy than Trump.
Isn’t there a conspiracy theory that after a few years of Trump any normally unelectable right wing headcaase would seem like an improvement?
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberI am just looking at all the conflicting information to make up my own mind
No you’re not, you’re just blindly regurgitating Trump’s twitter feed in a desperate attempt to compensate for whatever it is that’s wrong wth you.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree Memberscrap the virtual machine and go for a dual boot instead?
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree Memberif you want something a wee bit different try a kilchoman
words out of my mouth. the distillery is brilliant, was a farm (still is I suppose) but they’ve converted the outbuildings into a malting floor and distillery room. They grow their own barley as well as malting themselves (most buy in malt) and knock out a very respectable dram.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberIt’s a few years since I was there and went pretty much everywhere by train. Excellent. Plan in advance, buy tickets in advance and very cheap. Bus from the top car park to the summit of Etna was a bit pricey as I recall, but you get to wander round the top of an active volcano.
I found the people to be great as well.
Oh and if you want to creep your companions out – take them to the catacombes des capuchins in Palermo – a bit out of the way but you’re unlikley to see anything like it againChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberKeep it up Chubby, you’ll get there soon.
Funnily, PC was only on to work through some exercises – off to the pub now to talk about anything apart from maths and particle physics
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberCurrently studying for an OU degree. The material and support is excellent and there are regular tutorials, both on line and face to face. On my current module the face to face is about once a month but are 1 – 2 hours travel away. That’s not bad because 2 of the sites are next to train stations so I take the train and use the travel time as study time.
It takes discipline and you need to manage your time. You will be given an estimate of how many hours per week you’ll probably need to dedicate to study and where you should be calendar. At first this seems generous but use the time to get ahead of where you need to be because it’ll get harder, quickly, and it’s very easy to fall behind and get dispirited. The fact is there will be times when you just can’t be ar5ed and you do need to take that time off. But it costs lost time so build the time up while you can.
I did two modules at once at the beginning of this year. Not going to do that again. Also, looking back at this year, I did very little of the things I like doing in summer – kayaking, hill walking, bike riding, so may well skip a course this summer and do something more fun than sitting in a library staring at a computer screen.
I do take study weekends away from time to time – change of scenery helps.
Cost – a degree is 360 points, 120 at each of levels 1,2 and 3. A 30 point course will be around £500 and a 60 point around £800. Credit is cheap and easy to arrange via OU.ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberNHS so – most people love the NHS and see it as one of the jewels in this country’s crown. I love being part of that. I love that there there are times when I do work beyond what I’m paid to but help introduce new systems or processes that provide better health care and save money (sometimes). I think it’s great that when I turn up at A&E, I’m on first names terms with some of the staff, and that you can get a bit more attention when they know you’re staff.
I don’t like to hear when it goes wrong, because it does and when it does, we don’t just lose some money, people get hurt. I can **** it up enough to create a situation where someone dies and that’s a bit stressful. Most of the managers are ok, but once the next round of politics come in and the cuts start to bite, it can be hard. For example, we used to run 3 patients (and they’re caled patients not “service users” or “clients”) through each of our ultrasound scanners per hour. We upped that to 4 an hour by shaving 5 minutes off the appointment time. That 5 minutes makes a big difference to an elderly, confused patient and I believe treating people with respect and dignity does actually help them get better and away home. Treating them like cattle doesn’t.
Anyway, overall, yes, most of the timeChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberWhen looking for a 4×4 a couple of years ago, a couple places mentioned a tendency for petrol models to blow cylinder head gaskets. Got a CR-V instead, big, bigger inside, reliable, probably not any thirstier than a Freelander.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberBelstaff have just started making those again due to the popularity of the originals
Haven’t Belstaff been bought out and are now selling over priced “fashion brand” crap a la Sports Direct rather than the quality gear they used to?
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberI’ve got a jar of this, Balti not Philippe. It is 2 years out of date.
Couple more years, stick it on ebay as “vintage”
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree Memberhmmm – adding a disk to my nas and other plans cancelled, I went into Maplin to see if they had the right disk. Yes, and not stupidly overpriced – a bit more than ebuyer but not much. Mentioned that, a quick google by salesboy (no prompting on my part) and they price matched with no postage costs.
They’re also offering celestion skymaster 20×80 astro binoculars pick up from store for the 2nd cheapest price on the net.
Staffed by muppets thoughChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberSpoiler – in some of the outside scenes when the sub is on the surface, a model was used with some Ken dolls (as in Barbie & .. ) playing the crew.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberSimple does not mean thick or nasty.
Quite right, just thick, slightly pathetic and desperate for attention. Like you.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberBBC showed The Maggie a week or two ago and it’s probably still on iPlayer. Para Handy-esque and worth a watch if that sort of thing floats your boat, so to speak. Is it Bowmore where the American catches them? Looks like the round church at the top of the road.
ChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberBeen to the camanachd cup final the past few years. Brilliant atmosphere and excellent day out. This years (Oban) was a classic. I’d always advise anyone traveling up north to check out the Camanachd Association website to see if they can catch a game. The pitches, especially on the west coast, are usually in spectacular locations.
EDIT this years camanachd cup final is on youtubeChubbyBlokeInLycraFree MemberA couple of plastic juice bottles filled with water left lying about can work
