Well I can agree with one reply here for sure, my missus Whyte came t
With TRP Slate brakes and she’s never had any issues with them at all!

My SRAM Guide RS have needed a few bleeds, also last trip to france saw the lever seal swell in the heat. The funniest bit was at Metabief I got the brakes looked at (just a bleed I think) and on the downhills they worked as I’d want them to, however soon as I finished my run they dragged… and having race matrix pads on dragging brakes was a squeaky affair!

My SLX 4 pots have arrived now so we’ll see what they’re like

Ahhh so I went to go check this, as was keen to find bargains. Could it be that bibs were 28 instead of 128? So basically the 1 is missing off the beginning of some items?

For example the running shoes mentioned were 150 down to 28 and are now 128 so I reckon someone just got their discounting wrong or the system had a wobble…

As well as I’m sure a lack of skill may be part of it, it could also be general bike fitness. If you look in fit4racing’s Insta he has some great short videos for exercises to help stop armpump and other bike specific exercises 👍

I find my 50/01 grips are great as give a bit of sponge, as they’re ribbed “for my pleasure” 🤣 but my Dakine gloves have no padding and don’t usually have issues so worth looking into maybe?

Any self respecting mountain biker wouldn’t chip an ebike to go that fast, also it’s bound to go through battery waaaay quicker so how has it been getting charged? Solar power?
What a moron, police need to visit that one without a doubt

So there is no World Cup at Fort William next year then just the world champs? Do I read that right….we go every year and even after we have our first little un in October still have accommodation booked to do FW when it’s on.

So I had a bike fit by a proper cycling physio and to be honest I didn’t find it that useful.

It was mainly my fault as I said to him I wasn’t comfortable on the bike and to be comfortable needed a short stem with lots of rise that doesn’t exist. Then I told my friend who’s road biked for years and he said to me do the opposite and put a longer flatter stem on as road biking just isn’t comfortable and you need to work on getting it the best you can with yoga etc…. Did that and it’s made such a difference, I even do TT’s on my roadie now.

I think they’re very useful if you’re struggling though I’d just let them get you how you should be and don’t dictate too much in case you’re really uncomfortable

Just bought SLX as I managed to snap off the pad retainer housing on one side and they’re about 4 years old and were looking pretty worn!

So I’ve been prescribed as having non allergic rhinitis and it was like I had a cold all the time.

I don’t suffer from hayfever but take things that would help it, I have Avamys prescribed by the doctor which is a steroid spray and just recently allevia has been made available in chemists without prescription and keeps me on the level, it’s fexofenadine and seems to keep my throat clear and the spray just keeps me breathing normally.

    Hopefully this helps

You were lucky in a way regarding the driver and the location, I know this sounds like it should be common sense but over there if there’s an accident then the next car that is on the road has to stop by law.

Likely why the coach stopped and thank god you got a driver that was albeit a bad driver but had a conscience.

Glad you’re alright anyway, i bet it was bloody scary!

So sorry to hear, the only way you can help these things is to really avoid putting a bike like that in a wooden box (shed)

I speak from experience, we lost 4 a few years back.

Just to say, if you need more cushioning for your bars I bought some of the spank cushioning pads that go under the bar tape before you wrap it, really bulks the grips out and really works!

Just picking up on this, do you think so? I mean that pin is just there to keep the pads in, but…. It’s a fairly important pin! I remember flying down a North Yorkshire moors descent and the face of my gorilla pad just flew off resulting in only one brake to stop! Having the same happen is not an experience I want to repeat and I’ve not bought gorilla since!

Have actually just found set of 4 pot SLX new for about £190.
    Has anyone used bikeparts.co.uk before?

Just have to make sure the hose is long enough for the back for a large capra!

As walleater said, if you watch some GMBN videos on YouTube about disk brakes they tell you all about it but yes to allow tiny bits of air to escape to keep the system working optimal. Said better than that by walleater

Haha well I’ve gone for “the new dads survival guide” , oh yes the stretchy wraps look great and as it’s been mentioned would rather wear baby than push about I think.

I’m sure we’ll find our own rhythm though, ha let’s see if I can break the mould regarding never being able to buy bike Parts again 🤣 , but we’ll see as I’m under no illusion. Bought a spin bike the other day so we can both get on the pedals at short notice if we want in the garage 👍

Well we’re at 30 weeks now, pleased to say the sickness has died right down and made her laugh when I said to her probably around 22 weeks that she’s got a personality again 🤣

She noticed it too but was clearly feeling pretty rubbish, just wondered I think a few people have mentioned good books for men in regards to pregnancy and labour, can anyone direct what are the good ones? Do any read like a comedy? I’d be down for that 🤣

Anyway we’ve been watching hypnobirthing videos online, reading lots of guides and just been tailing back the riding. She did Metabief Green DH run at 28 weeks which was perfect as she’s got a huge MTB streak running through her and is very competent on a bike but would never do anything other than a gentle flow trail to keep safe riding. As she says she’s got as much chance tripping down/up stairs as she has of having an issue on the bike, less so as she’s going steady and has great bike control just reinforcing her being safe on a bike 👍

We take delivery of our £500 Decathlon spin bike on Friday, it’s not a smart one as such but there’s loads of YouTube vids where you can just adjust your cadence accordingly based on what the screen says. Better than nothing especially in the deep of winter after she’s given birth 😂 and hoping being able to get riding easier will bring down my fortnightly road TT times too 💪

🤣 we had things like a plugged in coolbox this time to keep food cool in the car. Also 2 reclining chairs as we were staying at her folks house with no mod cons, we really really needed that house to have a pool though on the days it was 25 degrees at 9am and 36 degrees at 4pm!!

Yep, I sympathise! Sold my Astra to buy a relatively new A3 which I’ve always wanted. The boot is definitely smaller, even though litres are apparently the same!
Going camping it was so chocked full I could only just see behind me! We had the same with her and being pregnant helping pack the car, me knowing it wouldn’t fit like that and having to change it, she threw her toys out and I sorted it all… 30 mins later all water under the bridge but yes, bigger car needed when little un arrives!!

We came back from France the other week, hit the tunnel at 1am, so much better! I would never use it during the day and really hope I never have to.

Only thing is after it, in UK main road to Dartford crossing was closed for night closures…. At that time I managed to miss the diversion signs which were confusing and ended up in a low emissions zone before I decided I needed to wake the missus up for help!

We must’ve added another 2 hours onto the journey just to get to Cambridge! Then another 3 hours from there… night closures and diversions can be the worst!!

Thanks Jim, the issue is the pads can’t be retained in the caliper anymore as the caliper body has broken. Just looking at 2 pot SLX and trying to get to the decision of spending £100 more and getting the 4 pots because I do tend to like modulation and 4 pots seem to give more of that.

Those SLX’ look incredible value for money, I wonder if they’d give me the power I need but based on reviews they seem very impressive likely due to the larger 2 pistons I reckon!

New 2 pistons have to be better than poorly/average performing 4pots at the end of the day!

Binman, really interesting! I know how I did mine, they’re years old and plastic tyre levers wouldn’t push the pistons back so I used ones that had a metal core in them but plastic on the outside. Honestly once I’d even finished Henry’s trick two back pistons were incredibly lazy to the point of. It coming out without being forced so they’ve clearly had better days!

Yikes I didn’t find it simple, wonder if it’s because I had an epic bleed solutions kit rather than original SRAM.

Thanks SaintSludge, I am going to go Shimano so just weighing up my options but will be in touch if I choose to go down 2nd hand route

Also wondering how I stop this happening again?
So I don’t wash the bike too often, the metal around the brakes has obviously become brittle, I got dot fluid on them once but as mentioned in guides washed off with water.

Also after a wash I dry the bike off but not usually bolts. Best to get compressed air can to dry those bolts/areas like brakes out?

Yes as per pic I even put brand new pads and was going to put my new disks on until I noticed the metal on the caliper was missing.

Thank you, we’ve been following the mens even in France using a VPN which worked perfectly.

Does this mean that it’s not just on ITV like the mens? If not how the hell are they meant to grow womens cycling if it isn’t for the masses to watch, that’s really poor?!!

I think the Code caliper idea Mr Binman is a great one to be honest.

I was thinking of selling the bike on maybe in a years time so didn’t want it ending up being a parts bin special (capra Al comp 2017) and have always kept the bike as “original” as poss when things needed replacing.

Very true regarding not time wasted, I mean I’ve never really properly fiddled with brakes but I had all the kit so thought I’d try as the shop bled them in Metabief but it didn’t fix the issue. It’s great ti have learned how to do it though.

Not sure they’re small parts, as it’s the housing on the caliper that’s snapped so the bolt has nothing to secure to = flappy pads.

SRAM’s just seem so fiddly to bleed, I have the kit but last time it didn’t go to plan.
In France the Guide RS Levers internals swelled in the sun too, so I still had brakes but an awful lever.

Wow thank you, I agree sorry for the revival! Just thought I’d comment about progress, thing is the doc says they don’t freeze them so I’m seeing what other people did and do. The thought of agonising pain I think is what’s putting me off 🤣, surely the pain can’t be worse than the very first time you bin it without kneepads on and land straight on them, you quickly learn to pad up!!

I do have to admit I hardly ever eat fruit unless it’s with icecream, or ever take vitamins so I think if I can increase all to naturally build my immune system that may help 👍 call me the pill popper!

    Just wanted to re-update…

It’s very much not gone! The verucca dots did seem to do quite well, but then hit the 12 weeks I was meant to use it for and then started To just cover it with a plaster and it seemed to just stay as it was and now I’m back on soaking the skin, bazuka and digging. Close to getting a freeze at home kit, it’s about 1cm in size and really needs to bugger off but have to admit not sure I can deal with massive pain that keeps getting mentioned from others!

Ha, I read it on here. The connection between bladder and pipe got really stiff and someone said to use food grade lube, I bought a small tube of it and it’s like jelly, it seems to have done absolutely nothing.

My main issue is that bite valve inside where you just can’t get in to clean it. For the EVOC i might try a couple of pairs of rubber gloves on me and then try pouring boiling water just between the solid plastic and the squishy bit to try and break the stuff down.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve never got I’ll using it, but it just doesn’t look nice and can’t be good for me sipping drink that’s passing through what’s essentially dirt/mould

Ouch OP mind if I ask the name of the shop? I bought my first MTB years ago from Paulscycles and had shocking service from them. I’ll never reccommend them to anyone, so curious if it was the same.

Gears are actually very easy to do with straight mech hanger and new cables. I used to think the stops were controlled by science but then when I saw how, realised how it all made sense. I did need someone more experienced to show me it all though

Thanks Reeksy, that’s just plain water? No tabs or anything? I suppose if I convince myself I get my kicks out of the snacks on a ride rather than the tasty juice that’s ruining my bladder pipe then that works 🤣

Brilliant thank you, definitely where I’ve gone wrong as I know there’s been squash left in there on more than one occasion. I just used to think it was ok miltons’ing it the night before then rinsing and using. So it’s my own fault really but won’t make the same mistake twice, great advice about the electrolyte tabs too rather than squash as they actually hydrate you properly so I’ll get some in stock…

Elshalimo I think it was the T series that are Bluetooth. I got the C as I wasn’t bothered about it being wired.

I love it btw, sound is so good for where it is. Would only ever be able to be one item we got, no things such as separates as there isn’t the room as it’s on top of a cupboard, anyway the sound is very full and my brother who’s had the older Sonos and the recent Bose, is still impressed by this 👍

JLAB ones from Argos with the wire that goes behind your neck, really good I used them for the gym when I was going 👍 even impressive bass for the cost. Around £30
