Been pondering the Mojo vs Tracer thing myself recently, there is a weight difference between the two but other than that they look very similar. Seen a bit of uber-anal debate over the suspension characteristics of both, but in practice I guess you just choose whichever you like the look of best.

Is there any significant difference in the warrantees?

Neither, get a cappuccino coloured kaffenback…. mines ace!

It definitely looks better, which in the minds of most is probably sufficient reason to do it, especially if it doesn’t add much to the cost or weight and doesn’t have any negative impact on strength or performance.

@Brant – even you did it on the Planet-X Compo, both ti and alloy…. what was your reasoning at the time?

Blimey, dunno about “design by committee”, this is more like “design by lynch mob”…..

Yeah, an Orange 5 frame would be the obvious choice I guess, everyone seems to like them although the 09 version is close to £1300.

I have thought about buying a prophet and flogging the bits, but it’s a bit of pain stripping, advertising, negotiating, packaging and posting it all and it’s hard to be sure how much I would get for them, so I haven’t really considered it seriously.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I’d need a large.

But can you still get them frame only? Don’t think I’ve seen them advertised anywhere recently, same goes for the rush and the rize 🙁

    Bang out of of order.

Looks nice, although it’s definitely the Endorphin that weighs 7lbs (3.2kg according to their site). Probably a bit overkill for most of my riding. I was kinda thinking of the FS equivalent of a cotic soul or on-one 456…

Never even considered a knolly. Unfortunately ther is no indication what size the frame is and it weighs 7lbs. Looks a bit more “all-mountain” than trail bike though.

LOL @ ruminant. I think you might be right.

    Interesting ideas.

The giant reign is 6″ of travel though isn’t it? Which is definitely more than I need, kinda closer to a nomad than a blur if you know what I mean.

I can’t imagine a chumba VF2 is going to be much cheaper – is it?

I’ve seen the offers CRC have on the older 08 spider xvp frames, but I’m not sure they’ll take the longer fork? and I have a vague idea that the older version of vpp didn’t really let you use all of the travel. Also the sizing seems a bit odd, the large has a 24″ top tube but a 21″ seat tube, which seems very tall.

The whyte E5 geometry does seem like a bit of a mystery.

I wondered about the Commencal Super 4 myself, but no idea whether it would handle the longer fork and not sure how to find out…. still merlin has them pretty cheap which is a bonus.

blimey, those whytes appear to have a 71.6 deg head angle with 130mm forks, bit racy for what I had in mind.
MBR seems to like them though 🙄

    Hadn’t thought about a Whyte E5 <wanders off to google>

True, but will they take a fork that long?

Trouble is I just can’t get excited about those giant fs frames, dunno why not, maybe it’s the paint schemes, or the swoopy bendy tubes, or just the fact they are giants. I guess I should take a proper look at them….

Take a look at the Intense manufacturers forum over on http://www.mtbr.com, I think I saw mention of something similar over there….

Cool, seems to knock 10% of a brand new, 09, full bike, I wonder whether they’ll honour the price?

I tried all of these the other day but I think they must have expired, anyone know of any current ones that work online?

    Ta.

…. and some pink tassels on the ends of the bars, and maybe a pink basket, a barbie one.

I think your budget would stretch to the Rush 4 which is basically the same bike but with less adjustable shocks….

Had a hankering for something like this myself, DIRT magazine loved the cannondale carbon rush, they went for the Rush 3 with the 120mm fox float which is slightly slacker than the lefty models, fitted a short stem and tougher tyres then raved about it.

So why have so many of the people posting on this thread sold them?

    ChrisS

Mine turned up today, CRC box, bag of bits, lump of plastic that I assume is for mounting them on racks? no pump.

I hope they are ’09 given that CRC are listing them as this years model!

On my formulas I had to fill them with fluid then wedge one of the pistons in place whilst I pumped the lever to loosen the other one, then wedge it whilst I loosened the remaining one.

Be interesting to see what On-One say about it I guess….. I assume they’ll send you a nice shiny new replacement given how little it’s been used?

How the hell did a summer season crack? Got any more info Hora? I thought they were nigh on indestructable….

Took me an hour or so for the first loop and a bit longer for the second, stopped a few times along the way though.

I’ve been to Sherwood Pines a few times and in the past I’ve just gone of exploring on my own, did do a STW ride there many years ago led my Mad Pierre IIRC.

Just thought the XC loop could do with a bit more variety, maybe some rocky bits? or some raised wooden sections over the boggy bits, or maybe a few faster sections with multiple line choices – either from a wider track or smaller paths splitting off and rejoining. I guess the closest thing to this was the section near the “downhill” tracks just past the bike park where there are a few interesting line choices…..

I’m being churlish really as it was still a heck of a lot better than it used to be!

Was there on Saturday, first time I’d ridden the XC loop, did it twice for good measure and it seemed pretty good. I can see why they need the drainage ditches but it did feel a bit weird to ride, made for very little line choice. In fact that’s probably my only criticism, the whole loop was a bit monotonous (if miles of single track can every be considered monotonous!). Obviously there isn’t much elevation to play with and there a few narrower twisty bits and a few slightly more open bits, however on the whole there isn’t much variety over the 13km. Ideal singlespeed terrain though, one gear was more than enough.

I’m not complaining as it was still miles better than what used to be there and I’m sure there is some other stuff hidden in the trees, would just have liked a bit more variety.

Doesn’t seem to bother many people…. Souls with pikes

    ChrisS

I think most people with pikes on their souls are running them wound down to 120 or 130 mm.

    ChrisS

Oh I think plenty of people would buy the ti 456 even if it rode identically to the soul, purely because it was more expensive, made of ti and marginally lighter. Whether those three attributes make any perceptible difference in the ‘real’ world is another matter…..

    ChrisS

I don’t think it’s an odd comparison at all; two frames, similar geometries, can be built up identically, similar intended use, it’s just the steel one is less than half the price of the ti one and I’m struggling to believe it’s worth paying the extra.

I’m not looking for a bargain ti 456 (although if someone wants to flog me a s/h one cheap then I certainly wouldn’t complain).

Would it be worth saving up the extra cash for the ti 456 or would a soul, to all intents and purposes, fulfill exactly the same role and be largely indistinguishable when ridden?

    ChrisS

Yeah, it’s probably a bit of a silly question, I’ve just seen a few pics of souls built up big and strong with pikes and even single ring chain devices ( DIRT ) and wondered whether there was really enough difference to merit the extra cost of the 456?

    Still curious about the pricing

Still curious about the pricing, I came across this quote on Bikeradar:

BikeRadar: How is the titanium 456 so cheap?

Brant Richards: We do it a few ways. Firstly , tiny overheads — my of?ce is a £185 shed in Todmorden. Then, Lynskey can batch-build stuff at their end to reduce costs but keep the same top quality. And we sell it direct to the customers, so there’s no shop or national distributor margin.

but the Ragley is going to distributed via hotlines and LBS….

So how does one decided between an On-One Ti 456 and a Tweak Bikes Ragley? Superficially similar top tube length, seat angle, chainstay length and BB height, the main difference appears to be slacker Ragley head angle….

    ChrisS

I must admit I’m curious about the pricing. I thought the whole idea of On-One was to keep the prices down by selling direct and cutting out the overheads of selling through shops. Yet, if I understand this right, the Ragley is going to be sold through LBS via Hotlines and yet still be competitive price wise with the On-One Ti456?

    Yes.
