@desf yeah I know, I'd forgotten I posted that, I only got one silly low offer on the frame anyway and had decided to keep it. Gonna start build it up this afternoon, can't wait. Fancied one of these for ages but was just having a post purchase wobble over the money, reread a few of the reviews and there was no way I was going to sell it.

All sorted now, what can I say? Fantastic customer service from on-one. Thanks Dave I'm a very happy on-one fanboy!

Yeah, I know technically I'd be within my rights to return the frame, but I'm seriously reluctant to because it seems like a rather naff way to behave. I've bought a fair bit of stuff from on-one over the years and they've always been great, a bit random, but great and I have no desire to mess them about.

Oh well, perhaps I'll drop them a quick email explaining the situation and see what they say….

I emailed Podge back, he was very apologetic but reckoned it was just the on-one way. Kinda reluctant to return the frame as it seems a bit of a crappy thing to do, although as you say it's probably worth it for a new set of forks.

Blimey, what can I say, emailed Merlin and they've been incredibly helpful. Fantastic customer service – highly recommended. 😀

    Hmmm, a strict one-in, one-out policy.

It's a radical idea, but you never know, it might just work!

Although I'd need to decide on an initial baseline number of bikes, could be tricky.

Indeed, this is what I'm starting to think, after all our possessions end up owning us 😉

Although the next logical step would seem to be one bike for all types of riding (or possibly a unicycle?), but that rarely seems to work out in practice.

I'm not paying good money to a bike shop to build it when I could do a better job myself <shudders at the thought>

WTF is going on with Merlin's pricing, the Formulas were £149 for a while, then went to £169 at which point I bought a pair thinking I'd missed out on the cheapest sale price but they were still a good deal, now they are back down to £149!

I doubt I'll complain as £169 is still cheap and it was my choice to buy at that price, but it's still bloomin annoying.

Definitely some sort of singlespeed with loads of mud clearance, maybe a 29er?

I wonder if an Intense Spider 2 would be a better choice?

Cannondale rush? not sure how tough it is though?

At £3300 is the ST4 SE really that much cheaper than a custom build Turner DW Flux though?

So assuming none of can afford a flux, what is the cheaper alternative? 100mm travel, takes at least 120mm forks, tough enough for a bit of abuse, lively ride?

How do you find the sizing? I’d normally go for a large frame and the 24″ top tube on the large 5.5 looks perfect, but the 21″ seat tube seems ridiculously tall…..

They’ve been in stock on CRC for a while and I thought I’d even read somewhere that they were close to selling out, dunno why no-one is owning up on here to having bought one though?

Shame they are so expensive really, would love one but can’t justify paying the rrp.

I can only see them for $1900 on speedgoat?

Don’t get me wrong, I really love the look of the tracer, but does anyone else find it a bit off that such a monumentally expensive frame requires a shed load more money spending on a replacement shock just to get it to work properly?

Do you need OCD to be a “proper” roadie? All that stuff about latex gloves and what should go in what pocket? Seems a touch anal?

Problem solved: second hand lx chainset off the classifieds, single ring and bash from CRC, jump stop from billys.

    Thanks for all the help.

There’s a difference between “not much point” and “no point”.

but it’s only a very slight difference 😛

    @vdubber67 – you come round?

But Ragley Ti and Blue Pig (and mmmbop) have same geometry.

So no point buying the expensive Ti version then……

Doesn’t bode well for the review if you can’t even remember which frame it is, after all the colour schemes are kinda “distinctive” 🙄

Don’t worry, whatever frame the OP chooses he’ll still get passed on a gnarly downhill by some old bloke on a knackered raleigh activator with his helmet pushed back at a jaunty angle and the kind of grin on his face that comes from spending more time riding than worrying about what frame to buy 😆

    ChrisS

But the Ti456 already got 10/10 from Guy Kesteven, so the Ragley Ti is going to have to get 11/10…..

It’s actually for a 1×9 setup, hence the bash which I was going to use with an n-gear jump stop, although I guess I could just use a different sort of chain device.

    ChrisS

Mmmm, nice. So did you need shorter chainring bolts? Might be tricky getting a bash in that bolt pattern?

    ChrisS

Okay so £65 for the cranks, £20 for a ring, £20 for a bash = £105. They also have SLX single and a bash listed for £125 (although I can’t work out whether they are in stock). Hmmm, decisions, decisions…

Good idea, I wonder whether those £65 FSA V-Drive cranksets in the sale on on-one are any good?
