Also just noticed this on the down tube:

Can't work out whether the underlying carbon is damaged or not 🙁

In the end I've ordered a pair of these:
    Cane Creek Bearings

They look about right in the picture…. just have to wait and see when they turn up.

Thanks for the links, bizarrely I popped in to my LBS this morning, they had FSA campy compatible 45/45 headset bearings, but they had a larger outside diameter (by about 1mm) and much larger chamfers. So I now have no idea at all what I need as replacements.

    LOL… dodgy trackpad button.

Well I've managed to clean them up a bit and they seem to be labelled TANGE SEIKI 4T5-5 BEARING. Which I think means they are 45 degree campy compatible bearings.

Still can't find any in stock anywhere though. 🙁

Nope – it's not them. the ones I have internal and external chamfers and fit 1 1/8" forks. I assume the headset is some kind of reducer?

Anybody know for sure? Darned if I can find out using google….

Seller is being quite helpful, so I'm not going to have to rely on syphilis! Says he doesn't think it's a crack so didn't mention it. I'm going to clean it up and see what it looks like, in all likelihood it will turn out to be superficial.

Fair enough… I'll give it a go and see what it looks like. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it's some kind of crack in that it doesn't clean off and I can feel it with my finger nail, I guess I'm just curious as to whether it warrants an ebay dispute or whether it's just the kind of wear and tear to expect on a 12 month old carbon frame?

Plain gauge spokes because I'm heftier than most…

So your contention is that plain gauge spokes build stronger wheels? What makes you think that?

    Actually it's a 2009.

Oddly this parts manual LINK lists 3 variants of the revelation; 130mm 2005-2008, 140mm 2009 and 150mm 2010. But only one spacer kit; 11.4015.450.000

Mind you, I want to reduce the travel by 30mm, which the 2005-2008 manual lists as two 15mm spacers, but obviously if the 2010 10mm + 20mm kit fits it amounts to the same thing!

Rock Shox Revelation Race 2010 Dual Air 140 with Poplock …. IIRC.

Hmmmm, I put one spacer in at the weekend, it came with the fork and was 15mm. I want to add a second spacer.

Thanks for the offer – but really need a 15mm.

Not sure, 2009 probably (140mm) but I think they are all the same anyway.

    I think this:

And just how are they going to know who I am?

    and this:

they do view all the blatherings on various forums as bellow contempt,

    are possibly related.

I find many of the Dirt articles read like a poor stab at philosophical musings by someone with same IQ as a turnip,

I know it’s supposed to look like some sort of quirky “Lo-Fi” production, but it just looks like they’ve employed a gibbon and sat him in front of Quark or Illustrator and hoped for the best…

I take it your not planning on bumping in to any of the people concerned in person anytime soon then 😀

It’s certainly nowhere near the levels of illiteracy and piss poor graphic design on show in DIRT, if you fancy a giggle I highly recommend picking up an issue.

Possibly true, but it does seem to have a passion and raw enthusiasm that STW struggles to match.

I think there is only so much you can say about a mountain biking and the mag is running out of ideas. DIRT does have one advantage in this regard in that it focusses on the DH racing scene which by it's very nature has a constant turnover of fresh material, news, reports and stories.

There do seem to be a lot of people with issues regarding the hope seat clamps, I'll have to try a different make and see what happens.

Don't fancy a shim as it would be a pain raising and lowering the saddle.

There are definitely noticeable differences in diameter between different makes of seat post, I tried a random selection last night and some of the cheaper ones were definitely a tighter fit. Unfortunately they were also too short.

Oddly the same make of post and QR work fine on my Ti 29er…..

Interesting…. didn't think there was much that could go wrong with something as simple as a qr seat post clamp!

Last time I googled this the consensus appeared to be that a dilute bleach solution left on for a few hours worked just as well as the expensive deck cleaning stuff you can buy from DIY stores. Works for me.

I do exactly that with 1.5kg of camera and lens

Each to their own. I'd rather not.

Read the maual from time to time to keep yourself fresh

For me this is the problem…… I want to take nice photos, I have a modest SLR cos the image quality is good, and the shutter lag is minimal, but the pages and pages of bloody instructions. Every time I get the camera out I've forgotten how most of the buttons are supposed to work. It's also far to big and heavy to lug around on the off chance of seeing something worth photographing.

These days I just use the camera on my phone….. maybe it's the singlespeed of the photography world? I can take the photo, crop, adjust and upload to the web in minutes.
