I have 3 of them. All awesome. Bright with good battery life. Never had any issues with any of them. I’d highly recommend them.

99p is about the right price but eBay don’t allow the selling of children unfortunately.

All city macho man. Well under £500 with plenty of change for a carbon fork. Absolutely love mine as it’s the best fitting bike I’ve ever had and it will handle pretty much anything,
I have mine built up with force cx1 and some hand built h plus son rims on tune hubs.

Highly recommend checking their stuff out. They do a disc or canti option too.

Make your own. Cheaper and I think it tastes nicer.

    Dongle – yes!
Sensor – it’s just cadence. You need cadence and speed (well just speed really). I would highly recommend getting the Garmin speed & cadence sensor as it’s fit and forget. None of this having to line magnets up rubbish. It’s a bit more but massively worth it:
    Garmin speed sensor thing

Don’t care about weight. Can be very picky on size

I have. Difficult to do a real comparison though because I changed rotor sizes too at the same time.

There does seem to be slightly better modulation though. It feels like I can control how much I want to brake, a little better, almost like the braking force is applied more gradually over a longer stroke. Unfortunately that could be down to setup, rotor size, different (newer) pads, etc.

Only thing I can say for sure is I believe the m8000 looks better.

If I can be arsed I’ll swap rotor sizes over the weekend and try and do some more scientific testing.

If you’re wondering whether it’s worth the upgrade – I don’t think so if you already have XT785

    Chris.

    ANT+ dongle
    Cadence & speed sensor
    Trainer road
    Sufferfest videos for entertainment/punishment.

Don’t need a garmin – only thing a garmin will do is track the virtual ride (which trainerroad does anyway). You can have trainer road re-broadcast the virtual power to the garmin too but again it’s just to track.

I just bought myself a Ford Focus about a month ago. My budget was £10k so similar to yours. I wanted something with a bit more power than my previous car (a Merc C180 coupe) and tried the 1.0 ecoboost 125. It performed about the same (I guess similar power to weight ratios). I then found out that there are very few focus 1.6 ecoboosts with 180bhp. They’re rare but they do exists. I went with one of those for £9800. Very efficient and very fast.

The 1 litre is absolutely fine on both motorways and town driving but if you want something faster keep your eye out for a 1.6 ecoboost.

Think there’s a program called handbrake that does this.

I’d recommend reading the cyclist training bible by friel. It is mainly focused on building an efficient and effective annual training plan based around what your goals are.

I would say to maintain fitness over winter your daily commute can take the place of Z2 base rides. If you’ve been doing this commute a while you’ve probably got all the base fitness you need.

To build on your base fitness take a look at doing 2×20 intervals or perhaps give sufferfest a go during the really bad weather.

iTunesU or whatever it’s called. Has millions of different structured learning stuff. Can do it from a laptop or an ipad if you have one.

I’ve done loads, mainly computery stuff but they have everything – music, history, languages, etc.

I find it helpful to have a turbo trainer for this but…
High intensity intervals, lots of. Sufferfest videos are amazing for this as they make them interesting.

Mix up the high intensity with some longer very low intensity rides.

Remember to take 1-2 days break every 7 days or so, so your body can capitalise on the exercise without fatiguing.

You could bet the c&b seen 1000 lumens jobby for ~£30 – it’s a nice light.

The sj4000’s 60fps is actually 30fsp x2. In other words you see the same frame twice. Nasty.

The 2015 fork doesn’t fit the old cdf BUT they’re releasing a new carbon fork for the older models.

Been using sportful ones – avoid them. They’re warm and quite waterproof but the fit on me isn’t so great. Baggy around wrists and tight around biceps.

I have a supersix evo hi-mod with a red Groupset on it. It’s the best bike I’ve ever ridden (but I would say that). Lots of people say why wouldn’t I buy a comfier bike but it’s also the most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden too.

If you get the one with the sisl crankset you can swap out the chain rings for compact/standard double spiderings and stick a stages power meter on without having to change the entire crank.

The bottom brackets tend to click quite a lot and require fairly regular maintenance and you’ve got to fork out ~£50 for some tools to do it which is painful.

He bike is super light (not that it matters that much) but really confidence inspiring.

    Do it!

Now I live in the Peak District I have compact and 12-28 but will switch to 11-28 son.

When I lived in Manchester I had standard double and an 11-23

Anywho… I went for the Trek. Took it and a few other bikes for a test ride at my not so local LBS. Loved the Trek and after riding a very racy road bike for years I’d forgotten just how comfortable an MTB could be.

Took it out around some of the trails near my house near Kinder scout in Hayfield. Couldn’t be happier and £1500 for the EX 8 29er seems to be the best deal for the bike by about £300 so I’m pretty chuffed.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

If they still had the canyon al 8.9 in my size I’d definitely go for that… I’ll test ride the trek tomorrow and buy if it fits.

    Cheers for the advice!

I can also get the trek for £1500 via a rebate from Evans… Decisions decisions…

Sounds like I couldn’t go wrong with either bike really… Also helps that I could get the Trek tomorrow whereas I’d have to wait a month for the Canyon…

I really wouldn’t recommend sliding the saddle forward to reduce reach. The saddle position really relates to having your knee positioned correctly over the bb/pedal spindles. What you’ll find is you will get calf, ankle, knee issues doing that. Get the larger sized bike but stick a shorter stem on it.

Of course internet bike fits are not the way to go however and you should try to test ride if you can… Blah blah

Also, a stack of spacers/up turned stems don’t look so cool either.

I’m a UK size 11 and bought a 46.5 size Bont Riot. They fit perfectly but ride them a little loser than I would other road shoes.

    I love mine.

I’ve got a PX pro carbon and an OnOne lurcher. I absolutely love the company and think their products are great. When I ordered the bikes I did experience some small delays, meaning 2-3 days above and beyond the expectation that they set with me. On both cases I received a product above and beyond my expectation.
Also, when was the last time someone in Brandt’s position at a different bike company bothered to come onto the forums and try to sort people’s problems out?

I think problems probably relate to a shoddy ERP and warehouse management system plus perhaps some not so lean internal processes.

Lots of delays get blown out of proportion too because we’re all excited about our shiny new bikes/wheels/bars/£2.50 base layers.

    My 2p.

I’ve had one since August last year. It’s a really solid bike and I’ve had no trouble with it. Seems to just roll forever.
I’m 6ft 2″ and ride an 18″ frame which fits perfectly but think I’m at the top end of my size.
I haven’t felt the need to change anything but the saddle (it’s a bit of a back breaker) and the next thing I’ll probably change are the wheels as they’re a touch heavy.

I have had a variety of ridiculous hobbies of the years. Haven’t managed to stick with many apart from riding.

    Here goes:

    – playing guitar
    – building guitars
    – making iOS games
    – photography
    – learning foreign languages
    – writing blogs on t’internet
    – learning advanced maths
    – painting / drawing
    – running

    Hello

First of all you could buy them from here: http://www.handtec.co.uk/satnav-gps.html?cat=8&manufacturer=67 as they’re a bit (not much) cheaper.

I have the 500 and my old man has the 510. If you’re into all that social networking stuff and have an iphone then the 510 integrates pretty well. If you don’t have a laptop or can’t be bothered with USB cables then again the 510 is the one to go for. Other than that the 500 is identical.

    Cheers

I have the freerider xvi and surprisingly they’re not so heavy at all. Nowhere near as light as a running trainer but about as light as your normal pair of Adidas trainers.
It is true what they say about them though: soak up water like a bitch, grippiest flat mtb show out there.

Avoid Nanterre like the plague. I always stay near the La Defense business district as it’s a little cheaper than Central Paris but with good links into town. I think the hotel is the Mercure La Defense. Avoid any of the campanile hotels – they’re just awful.
