they’re the ata ones so that might be my problem. windwave have quoted me 80 quid for service and bushings, if they can do just the bushings for cheaper i’ll send the lowers and then give them a service myself, otherwise might look at picking up some domains, half a kg lighter and can find them for less than 150 squids…
    cheers for the advice all!

27.2 Reverb? What is this mythical beast?

    My response exactly!

this summer i had to explain to a mechanic at a trail center in wales how a gravity dropper works and he then wanted to sell me a 27.2 reverb! he also said my 456 was a ‘cute little bike’. he then charged me 40 quid for a pair of brake pads and a cable change on the post which he got wrong, lost one of the internal parts and i had to rebuild the whole thing in the cafe.

yep that was another thought i had, can you get in though? it says priority to those who have booked on the website, does this mean waiting 5 minutes or 2 hours?

in theory that’s a gear you should never be in.. but yes it looks too short. you can remove missing links pulling on a gear cable wrapped round it, use gloves though!

I’ve got some -18 freezers at work for keeping carbon fibre in if you fancy a cheap holiday!

Never tried it but pretty sure it wouldn’t work… pick up a second hand frame for 40 or 50 quid then sell on if you don’t like it…
I have however seen a full susser giant trance with a metal rod instead of a shock…

Am I the only one with a great LBS? Recently got a custom built wheelset from them for a tenner less than online price, and with my choice of bits and colours obviously, hundreds of little bits, plus most of my clothing and though they know full well i get alot of stuff online (when i buy second hand, or dirvetrain bits which for some reason are less than half price online) are always willing to have a chat and give advice when i stop by, or share new trails they’ve found or built. Whenever I order something I can send the boss an sms and he’ll keep me updated. If I could afford to keep all my bikes running purely from them i most definetly would

I got half a mouse the other day. I assume the other half was eaten and not hidden around the house in some sick feline treasure hunt

Should be picking them up next week. Reading the reviews carefully all the praise is about the rims, the hubs are said to be good but there’s no hype at all, it’s all about how great the rims are. Pro 2s however are hailed everywhere, only letdown being the slow pickup, but i’m getting the new 40t pickup ones for the same price! In the end they came up almost as expensive as the oozy wheelset as the bloke who did my first quote got a bit muddled up. However i’m convinced that the pro 2 evos with 40 odd percent better pickup will be ace and much better than the spanks. I also got to choose colours of everthing so black spokes hubs and rims with red nips should look ace! Sure I can trust the guys to do an excellent build too. Should come up under the 1700g mark if my calculations are correct, and i’m sure my d521s on bulbs are at least half a kg heavier!

So the LBS will do them for the same price as online, however they aren’t available in black for another month (LBS or online). However the rims are, and for 100 quid less than the wheelset they’ll build me some pro 2 evos onto the spank oozy rims with dt double butted spokes. No brainer I reckon….. Anyone disagree?

Think I’m sold then… I’ll see if the LBS can get them in later.

So I survived, ended up in the hedge on the first corner courtesy of euro reverse brakes but then all fine. Was all natural stuff so average speed was low and runs were long but got down some stuff I wouldn’t even have considered walking down before so pretty happy with it!
Painful hands though still, by the end I couldn’t even use the brakes anymore… Amazing what alot of travel and some body armour can do to your skills though. Defo be trying some more next year!
Cheers to everyone for the advice

good point about the setup there.. and i’ll be getting a full face lid and any other protection they’ll hire me. This is completely last minute so didn’t bring anything at all, no gloves or spd shoes, not even a bloody jersey. Probably a stupid idea but i can see myself sitting at work next week regretting not giving it a shot!

Cheers, will strip the hub as soon as i have the time, felt inside the hub and all is present and seems correct so i’ll check the bearings and maybe change the circlips.

TheArtist: Blue hoses came with the secondhand brakes, tried to continue it a bit with the blue skewer but black would be better.. Don’t know why it is badged as an inbred to be honest
    Thanks!

just got back from a wales trip running conti baron rear and chunky monkey front, up and down snowdon no worries at all, excellent grip on wet rock and roots, only washed out once, but i was asking for it… in the dry i run a racing ralph on the rear, roll well and are syrprisingly grippy
