Really interesting work there mate, you speak in your blog of a hardtail, do you have a build thread for that too?
What sort of carbon/resin are you using? Is it PrePreg?

Grab a 456 carbon X9 for £999 in the sale, or a second hand 456 steel and build it up, you’ll have change from a grand and lots of big grins

Maybe I should have ordered through ebay then… I got it direct for a £3 saving, suppose that backfired then

Some part of that statement isn’t true, or… either you’re trying harder on the climbs or your fitness levels aren’t perfectly matched.

We have the same general fitess although I may be slightly on top at the mo as he’s missed a couple of rides. My point stands though that the 160mm Covert (aided by talas down to 100mm) climbs (pretty much) just as well as his mount vision 120mm..

Chunky I know what you’re saying and I was indecisive about it but it pedals extremely well and weighs 32lb, plus it descends like a missile on rails, why go for anything smaller was my final line of thought… but as you say, opinions are what count

I did think that about the rotor but writing outwards seemed to make sense..
and the stick stayed there till i removed it despite the wind, don’t ask how!

Whatever the reason this summer I took a shuttle to the top of monte baldo in italy with a rental dh bike, set of full taps and ended up in a heap on the first corner… Funny now, embarassing then!

Fully rigid singlespeed ’93 Kona Fire Mountain here, and very pleased with it. I find when I take a geared bike in I get carried away, end up pushing it too hard and turning up at work sweaty and sticky, with a SS you pedal only when required..
32/16 ratio, it’s hilly round here!

Did your frames come with rear axles? seems a bit strange to use a standard and not supply the axle.. considering they cost £30 and I’m already going to have to fork out 25 for a hub conversion kit

What foek would any owners recommend? I’m thinking u turn air lyriks, at least rc, if not rc2. like the idea of lowering the front on climbs, works well on my 456… plus air will keep the weight down and not going talas won’t break the bank…

I’m going for it! I looked at the bandit but I have a hardtail too so don’t really need to compromise..

I’ve never spent this much on anything bikewise but I feel I’m getting pretty much as much as I can from the HT now so time to move on, seeming I haven’t read a bad word about them, and I’m getting a great discount from my LBS I’m taking the plunge!

I started on some terrible flats and moved to clipless because of my feet not staying on the pedals, recently bought a DH bike which came with flats, good ones with pins, tried sticking them on the trail bike for a ride and haven’t ridden clipless off road since…
At 8 I agree that riding with fixed foot positions could have a bad impact on supple bones still in developement… Plus if he was to have an spd fall over sideways moment it may put him off the whole thing a but…

    Anyone ridden both?

Definetly agree there! Needs to wind his neck in! I think they have to adjust the timeframe with the actor getting visibly older… no point him looking like a sulky teenager and stil behaving like a 10 year old…
