I have AM45s and love them, very weather proof, comfy and look good. picked them up for £40 from evans.
Only con is they’re very heavy.
And I sized up 2 sizes, come up very small

I know they make them but can’t remember where but i read that the DHF is better than the DHR on the rear

Ah I’m still on old fashioned 26ers

I read somewhere that the DHF front and back was the way to go.
Ilike the conti baron paired with the chunkey monkey for bad weather, but am after something less soul-crushingly draggy and heavy

9spd powerlink all the way. When they’re stiff just wrap an old gear cable round the link and pull on that. Use gloves though

On one merino 160g, warm in the cold, breathable in the hot. Terrible customer service, great products (most of the time)

Plus my fox ctd weighs 250g, that’s lighter than my lightweight handlebars..

alot less market? Everyone seems to want to upgrade their forks at some point whilst people seem to live with the stock shock.
Saying that forks are between 700-1000£ whilst shocks are 300-500.
And consider that they hold much higher pressures and being smaller maybe requires more technology to get all the damping circuits and gubbins into a package less than a quarter the size?
Just a few guesses, I too want a new shock and wish they where cheaper.
I also want new forks and wish they where cheaper too

I used to ride without a helmet, I even did 2 alps holidays without one. Then I started wearing one and crashed, put a huge dent in the side of the helmet on a rock and was still concussed, If I hadn’t have had it on I am quite sure I would not have gotten up and got home on my own legs. This is proof enough of what an idiot I was not wearing one.

I have a HAWG which is the biggest one I think and take it out every ride. I leave pump shock pump (once randomly lost all air in forks and not been out without one since) tubes and tools in there, which is my minimum for a ride, then for a quick blast i just pick it up and go, or depending on the ride add bladder, food, jacket, spare kit etc.
Amazingly it does actually work without filling it up, i’d rather have too much space and not allways use it all than not have enough and break the zips trying to fit everything in…
Plus if I only have 40 minutes to get ready get out and get back I don’t want to spend 20 figuring out which pack bottle or jersey to take.
Cost me £50 in the crc sale

I find that you get to the point of thinking ‘well i’m riding other harder and bigger stuff, time i mtfu’

I’ve found that riding everything except the feature that had me off rebuillds my confidence, until I am comfortable riding it again.

I have a SAAB 93 turbo, 2001 vintage, but if i want to fork out for one i’d rather it was versatile. And I do have a laptop

Good observation, I have drilled the dropouts so the qr is going through a 5mm hole rather than the actual dropout and regarding tension my idea was to pack out between the stem and dropputs with washers.
However i have noticed that when turning the bars the skewers slides through the stem so i’ll trial it as is, failing all that ill just get a nice big bolt to bolt through and some plates to weld onto the dropouts..
More worried about getting the drivetrain and brakes working for the moment…

Good point, might be an issue keeping the front down… Or just be really fun and easy to wheelie!
Or better still might put stress in the wrong areas and cause the welds to fail…
Showed the pic to some colleagues this morning and they described it as ‘an accident waiting to happen’.

Only as much as I go up! Makes winding through tight trees more fun and induces some extra erse-clenching moments!
Probably don’t need them that wide but whenever I ride anything narrower it now feels wrong..

I have gone from 760 wide 50mm rise to 780 10mm rise, absolutely brilliant, don’t know why i went for risers in the first place.

So all the welding done today.

Welded a brace(chainstay) to take weight off the skewer doing the steering

And the cat disapproved of me welding in a wooden shed and hid in his castle

Now being sprayed matt black and will be built up when I’m next off work

What tonyd said, £10 is comparatively cheap but it’s still a bit of plastic, and I only need 1/3 of it!

Hmmmmm good point, I had welded a brace onto the frame too see how tough it would be and now can’t remove it even by hammering it so it’s pretty strong. here’s a pic of what i got done today

I would if i was welding tubes through the headtubes, but the rake of the fork should allow the steerer to turn in the top headtube

Lidl one, £4 with cleaning liquid and a bottle of oil! Oil is doubtlessly terrible quality but does fine for the commuting SS and squeaky hinges for that matter, and the cleaner still works fine.
