Ah so there are some (at least one) out there! Is it on Soul geometry? is it all 953 or just parts? (ie the Bfe with 853 in parts of it?)

Wasn’t the problem with the cotic that they made it lighter than the 853 tubes but the same strength, so it was quite flexy, then did eventualy snap? Not an inherent problem of 953, just that for MTB tubesets there was no way to make it better than 853 as it’s already the optimum ammounts stiffnes to strength

Exactly, The advantage is you can make it lighter but it ends up being very flexy (very thin tubing is used with 853 as it is) and it did eventually snap, I beleive Cy has it on his wall somewhere.
Back to the on-one will be very interested in knowing how the vertical give experiment works out, and how much lateral flex it induces

Would be nice if it was 953, I know Cotic tried it but they just snap apparently

So me saying hi to mtbers and to roadies but getting just a dirty look makes them right?
nemesis I don’t quite catch your point

:D but seriously I do love the way they are so miserable (mostly). If I encounter another rider on the trails I’ll say hi and stop for a chat whatever they’re wearing or riding, but roadies seem so ‘clicky’

…..but what about the urinal/face interface on the standard tiled toilet floor?

    Ouch!

m520 pedals on road bike here, with am45 shoes and baggies, add a huge camelback and a fox flux lid and sit back and enjoy the dirty looks from the roadies!

I test rode a 29er flavour one and didn’t like it at all, had a very sluggish tankish straight line feel to it, no agility or ‘pop’.
I then tested a 26er and ordered one straight away. Absolutely excellent bit of kit.

However that is what I felt on the bikes and I’m sure there are a milion reasons why I’m wrong on paper. But in the saddle that was my impression.

I’m looking at getting a CS but the new inline looks like it should be enough for most UK riding. If I can get hold of one!

You can’t use a narrow wide on a 2x setup. My advice is go 1×10, with 42 expander if you need it

Ok, I’m quite happy that the Chunky Monkey is an excellent front tyre, but For a week in afan and bikepark wales in the summer would you put an ardent, aspen or racing ralph on the rear?
And how noticeable is the transition from centre to side knobs on maxxis tyres everyone rants about? Scary in the middle or drifty and fun?

So who wins the tyre war? best combo for trail centers, and best for non groomed trails?

Now that is a very sazzy paint job! I’m thinking matte black with retro ‘splashes’ of fluo yellow or green, 90’s style

bigyinn all yours if you ride the tall bike from your house to pick up the Covert. and Macavity that’s awesome! Learning to ride a tallbike like that must really boost normal riding skills, balance and all that! Might need a gnarlier tallbike though…

So my fork steering didn’t work so I took it all apart and did it properly from scratch, here it is:

I have taken it round the garden and it all works fine. aligning the headtubes was a bit of a job without jigs. But it was fun to build and even funner to ride!
    Here’s a video:

I have wellgos on both bikes and they are great (360gram mag pedals for £40) as long as you change the pins! both my sets, although different models, both came with really short pins, once swapped over they are great.

Im with the aa, £11 a month gets me cover on all my bikes below 1k and cover on my ‘proper rig’ for 3.5k plus aa breakdown cover. Im hoping where they’re such a big company they’ll be more reliable than the little providers..

Not a solid answer but sram chains aren’t specific as far as i know and work fine on both. Don’t see why it shouldn’t work.
