I’d retrain as a teacher. Easy work, loads of holidays and a union that fights for your right to be lazy.

Hermes are just a disaster zone at the best of times so not keen on CRC/Wiggle.

I’ll take a look at bike-discount. Thanks for the suggestions!

1.7 Are there restrictions on how far I can travel for my exercise or outdoor activity?

No. You can travel to outdoor open space irrespective of distance. You shouldn’t travel with someone from outside your household unless you can practise social distancing – for example by cycling. Leaving your home – the place you live – to stay at another home is not allowed.

    From https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do

So looks like you can cycle with one other person now.

How big is the assos pad compared to the rapha? (width, thiccness)

It’s not as thick as the Rapha pads, doesn’t feel quite as much like you are sitting on a mattress, but the front area is much better and for me the lack of a central seems makes all the difference to extended comfort.

The pad is only sewn in at the front and back so can move a bit more than a fully sewn in one I guess, not sure if it actually helps or is just a gimmick.

Brooks Cambium for me. Comfy as on the mtb and commuter

That said, it sounds like the drill driver you borrowed was pretty weak if it can’t handle a playhouse build lol

Yes, impact driver is what you need. Once you’ve had one you’ll find you use it more than a cordless drill/driver.

Having both is great because if you need to drill pilot holes you don’t need to keep changing bits.

    A 35 mile road ride isn’t exercise unless you’re a professional cyclist

    Troll or clueless?

I don’t give a toss if they go for a 2 or 3 hour ride solo…it’s just the riding as a group that’s not on.

    This.

Have a ride around Cheshire on a Sunday morning, guaranteed you’ll see a few groups of three or four riders of similar age/sex. Doubt they live together. This in addition to the many pairs of men out riding together making a half arsed effort to stay apart (until a car passes them).

Honestly don’t see why people feel the need to do this. Is it that hard to ride on your own? Do they feel so insecure in their lycra that they need to be in groups?

I just sent back some Rapha classic bibs because they have a stitched seam right down/through the middle of the pad. Seems like utter madness and definitely wasn’t comfy after a couple of hours. Shame because the actual pad bit either side was lovely.

Got some Assos instead which are excellent.

    Yep, perfectly reasonable.

I bought a 530 but sent it back straight away and got the 830, very glad I did. Basically the same feature set but with the touch screen which is good. It’s not iPhone level good, but when you are used to using touchscreens all the time it’s much better than buttons.

Great units all round, use it for MTB, commuting, road etc. Integrates well with trailforks and nav is great on road.

just take a bit of the tyre off the rim, pour the race fluid in, put tyre back on rim then use your airshot? less hassle than syringes.

I ordered a few things mid March and they were very quick to deliver to be fair. Sounds like they have CV19 issues but they aren’t exactly admitting it on their website which is poor.

I have been deliberately avoiding narrow lanes etc, wouldn’t even consider touching a gate. What’s the point in introducing risk like that for no gain?

I’m back, read every thread you started, people in glass houses & all that 🤣

Reality check : this is one of, if not the dullest threads I’ve ever seen on here.

Suggest deleting it before more people see.

I used to get shaving rash. Bought a decent electric about 18 months ago and no hassle since. It’s much easier than fannying around with all of the paraphernalia

Went a bit nuts on Rapha 25% off over the weekend. Looks like a lot of people did as got an email from them yesterday saying it might be a while for delivery!

Also looking forward to a top up of bbq coals.

I would rather pay the nice bunch of Polish people that run a superb hand car wash just up the road, sadly unavailable now 🙁
I’m sure it’s one of those things if you get into it It’s addictive and I must admit when I look at the car when back from said hand wash it does look blood good.

Might look good for a bit but they wreck your paintwork with swirls after a few goes. Fine if it’s a lease you hand back in a couple of years.

I’ve got a 25 year old Caterham 7 with bare aluminium bodywork and black fibreglass wings and nose , the bare Ali parts are looking pretty tatty.

Anyone know whats the best approach to make it look a bit neater without attempting to polish it up to a mirror finish.

Magic sponges are good for cleaning up bare aluminium. Just with a bit of warm water. You might want to hit it with some iron x or similar and a clay bar too, to get rid of contaminants.

Regularly leave the fun car in the garage for 6 months over the winter and it’s absolutely fine. If we aren’t out of lockdown by the time your fuel goes off we’ll have much bigger things to worry about.

Lockdown is OK for me so far, been getting regular rides/turbo sessions but also eating a bit more as a result. Was generally hitting 1500 cals a day with less exercise, now close to 2000 but still losing at a similar rate. -3lb last week so happy with that.

I went out for a ride today and was dismayed to see someone out with a full touring/bike packing setup – full panniers and bar bags etc. Hardly in the spirit of sensible exercise every day.

I have been flipping between stay at home and Zwifting and getting some fresh air on a sensible hour long ride carefully planned to use big roads to avoid narrower lanes or pinch points. I’d say I haven’t been withing 5 meters of anyone when out riding. I have also been riding outside when the weather has been poor (wet/windy) so less people are around. Plan to Zwift over the weekend when the weather is good!

Getting a ride outside after 4 days not leaving the house has been really good for my head!

I think the risk is pretty minimal but I have easy access to quiet roads and a backup family member at home if I was to have a serious mechanical. Not sure I’d be doing the same if I was in London or Birmingham.

I’m a big fan of these https://off.road.cc/content/review/shoes/shimano-2019-me7-spd-shoes-review-2873 for general riding, mtb, gravel, commuting, whatever. Really comfy for me straight out of the box. YMMV

I’ve been pretty much dry from January bar a ski holiday which was rather tame due to CV shutdown so I’d expect to be dry through April. I’m also down 3 stone since Jan and think this is big a factor, didn’t go out and go mental drinking much beforehand but steady beer or two a day adds up when you also like pies.

Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo was my first ‘proper’ bike. Think it’s a 2010 model. I keep it up at my parents and love riding it round the local trails when I go back home.

Here is my Arkose. It doubles up as a commuter with mudguards, a rack and the original wheels running G-One Speed 37s tubeless (smooth and comfy), and a winter road bike in the guise below with 32mm Conti 5k on Scribe duty wheels.

Just recently went to an Ultegre crank to use a powermeter and an oval chainring.

    Love it!

I run a 42 up front and an 11-42 on the back on my commuter/winter bike and it’s great for most things.
