    At the risk of being…erm…roasted

    You could get cheaper pods.

Starbucks pods in various bean and roasts options are regularly available for £2.75 a tube, just Google search to see which supermarkets have offers on.

L’Or espresso pods are often available in quantity for around 25p per pod. The stronger of these are quite good.

My son went to Borneo with World Challenge, they had a similar recommendation on sleeping bags

We bought a silk liner, rectangle shape for legroom,  grey not white so not to show the grime – he slept in that.

He took a cheap sleeping bag from Aldi, it was £15 and lighter than decent synthetic ones we had. We knew it didn’t need to be v warm. It was there to show willing on the kit list  it came back used just to sleep on.

We were nervous doing this, but a couple of his friends did similar and we figured at the time they were 18 years old and could find out how to buy warner sleeping bags over there if they needed them.

What goods value have they used for the calculation?

Wouldnt it be lovely if they had told me that. and the commodity code and rate of import VAT they had used, instead of listing a random set of fees

I think I need to pay the fee, get the goods delivered and hopefully that type of information comes with the parcel then I have to contest the fee to try to get a refund

    Bike helmets are zero VAT

    This I like, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/protective-equipment-and-vat-notice-70123#pedal-cycle-helmets

Provided it confirms with standards and has a mark of conformity…i’ve no idea of this as I haven’t seen it yet, but I think I’ll try to query the charge

No local VAT paid, the helmet cost is listed as ‘zero rated’

So I can buy a Motorola G7 for £50 off eBay, and use it to get £190 off a pixel 8a. The world’s gone mad!

Anyone know if there is any way of getting trade in for phones that aren’t on  the list? I can’t see anything in the T and C’s.

so there is some info available on the 2 sets of tests but a side by side comparison isnt easy

ASTM f1952 – ASTM’s Downhill Mountain Bike Racing helmet standard

Virginia tech Star rating test protocol – http://hdl.handle.net/10919/83760  which is a link on this virginia tech page Bicycle Helmet Ratings (vt.edu)

VT might have some higher velocities and different angles, ASTM uses different shaped anvils…and chinbars arent necessary for ASTM

links are above in case anyone wants to take a trip down this rabbit hole and report back… :-)

But I still can’t see how punters are supposed to make beneficial use of it, other than balancing a number of ‘stars’ (that they don’t fully understand the testing behind) against the asking price of a lid…

Exactly this, more stars better than fewer stars…and trust that they have a sound method of awarding stars

But a helmet such as the Fox Dropframe Pro was given the highest rating at the time by Virginia tech (link to fox’s marketing) – but it doesnt have ASTM downhill rating…so is ASTM tougher to achieve or just that Fox didnt feel the need to submit their lid to ASTM tests?

Agree with most of these. For me the Stone Roses is the best example mentioned. There were a few clues in the singles released between the two albums, but no one expected that second album

    Guided by voices

Not really hear much by them, but liked what I have heard.

BUT nominated here because I’ve read they are on their FORTIETH album. The deserve more success, but clearly don’t need it.

Magic Mary soft on the front, Big Betty rear. I put a nobby nic speed grip on the back when it dries up. The Mary stays on all year round

Hardtail has DHF up front and a hams dampf super gravity at the back cos that was the thickest casing I had, to avoid punctures on winter night rides

Endura 3/4 shorts – take your pick which.

they’ll be just below the knee when standing if no kneepads on. The leg opening is narrow, so they’ll sit on top of knee pads. That’s ok though, no leg gap.

Mine are as yet unworn, mostly due to my lack of motivation when the weather is terrible.

Trying on indoors, they did feel plasticy against the skin, so best worn with long socks / knee pads under them

Do gpx files still get added to the collection on Komoot?

The gpx OS Maps needs a paid account (or fedd trial) to download.

…well that’s not going to trigger panic buying at all is it?

I made a load of halloumi once. It was nice… but so much of it…and the smell of if cooking still hasnt left my nostrils. Never been as keen on halloumi since. :-)

    Paneer was nicer for me.

    No one got coriander yet?

Tastes like washing up liquid to me, seems to be a genetic thing.

Comes as a default sprinkling to spoil too many dishes. Makes a good curry inedible.

I picked up one of the Merlin BBs, but I ly been out on it once. Liked it on the downhills, it felt hard work on flats, but it was awful muddy.

Seemed harder to pedal than the DHR2 on my hard tail, but there are other variables – such as different bike, different conditions….

    Er…glad I could help

Wow, 5 games underway. I’ve not played more than one game at a time before, so this will be interesting.😀

Is it a league? Or knockout? Or something else…

    Spoke elimination Enduro.

Competitors repeat the same stage, but after every successful downhill run one spoke is cut out of each wheel. The last one to successfully complete a downhill run wins.

Or Wine elimination downhill…as above, but drink a glass of wine at the bottom of each run (spokes remain in wheels.

Cheap bike downhill. A top gear / sam hill type of event. Points won for speed and cheapness

That’s a shame. Google says temporarily closed. Hopefully it is only temporary.

I  liked their transparent pricing for workshop jobs and often dropped my bike in when I couldn’t be arsed to do work myself. Though my mate had an issue recently with some bearing replacements that were a bit bodgy

So where’s the LBS now? Do I have to go to Stevenage when I can’t be arsed to bleed my brakes?
