Just PM’d you swamp boy, I’d be interested in both of the OP isn’t
ChrisAFree MemberWe’ve got two early riders & the belt tension can be a bit of a pain until you’re used to it. Even if you set the dropout adjusters, the rear wheel will tighten the belt & move when you tighten the wheel screws unless you hold it all steady.
ChrisAFree MemberSame experience for me as above, I currently have an etape disc & a elite hss disc. They are both fantastic bikes. If I could only keep 2 bikes, it would be them.
Previous to that, I’ve had an etape rim & an ego hard tail, again, both great well made bikes.
I’ve always found Jim & Richard great to deal with too, so I’d recommended them.
ChrisAFree MemberExactly the same situation as us & I bought a early rider seeker 14. It’s a great size for our 5 year old & the size really suit him. Drop early rider an email, they do have specials every now & again.
I’m really impressed by its quality & it might not last him as long as a 16 will but he’s happy & comfortable on it, plus from his balance bike, it took him about 5 minutes to master pedalling on it. I think on the 16, it would have been too big for him & maybe put him off so was the right choice for us
ChrisAFree MemberWe just bought an early rider seeker 14 for our 5 year olds birthday. I’m really impressed with the quality of it. He loves it too & is just progressing from balance bike to pedal bike.
ChrisAFree MemberI have an xd freehub never used too that i’d Swap for a Shimano one too. If anyone’s interested?
ChrisAFree MemberYou’d fit a 40 in easy I reckon. I’m running 35mm g ones & there’s loads of clearance to go wider
ChrisAFree MemberThat’s terrible news. I’m only up the road in mapperley so will keep an eye out in case they are still local
ChrisAFree MemberSame for me, my old caad8 was a 56 & was just too stretched. I’m the same height as you at 5’10, the 54 is perfect for me.
For what it’s worth, I’m a 56 in every other manufacturer
ChrisAFree MemberYes, which model bike?
I ran it on a roubaix sl4 that was QR & it was fine.
On my Diverge that is 135×12 the axle is a bit shorter through the frame than with the scs hanger. I’m running zipp wheels but thinking of buying a 142×12 axle & trimming it down a bit at work if needs be so it goes a bit further into the frame
ChrisAFree MemberThe whole situation is wrong at the moment, I’m just in the process of changing my company car & would love to have a hybrid but the cost of the cars far outweighs any tax benefit there is.
By the time I’ve paid the extra for the hybrid, which is also likely to cover a decent amount of motorway miles (so need the mpg) paid the additional petrol costs & the tax, the diesel works out at least even over 3 years & in most cases preferable. Also the tax for hybrid company cars rises by a fair amount in year 2 & 3 of ownership, with year 3 just about being to even levels of having the diesel.
if the government really wanted to do something about running cleaner cars, they would target heavy road users & company car drivers, but the incentive just isn’t there.
I’d have no issue buying a diesel family car at the moment still either, the majority of company car drivers are still heading for diesels, so it’s just not possible for the market to shut down over the next few years until hybrid or electric technology moves on to become more affordable.
ChrisAFree MemberI’m after a Shimano freehub version if anyone wants to sell a hub rather then sending it back??
ChrisAFree MemberFeeling the love for them here too at the moment. Schwable pro-ones, s-ones & g-ones all tubeless across the road bikes & cx bikes on a mixture of rim combinations. Overall, I’ve done about 3000 miles since Christmas & made the switch after a continual run of punctures from potholes, etc. They have yet to let me down.
The g-ones on archetypes were a faff to get sealed, but I used 25mm tape as per Daffy above which sorted it out. Personally I love the ride of tubeless & the lower pressures. I don’t think I’d go back to inner tubes unless there was a particular tyre I wanted to run that wasn’t available in tubeless variety.
ChrisAFree MemberI’m running Schwable s-ones on the road bike & g-ones on the cross bike – both tubeless.
I love the s-ones, run them at about 70-80 psi & think they are the best tyres i’be used in a long time.
As said before tyre choice is the critical factor less so rim choice
ChrisAFree MemberI run s-ones on the diverge & g-ones on the cross bike, I love them both. The s-ones I run tubeless & I much prefer them to my other road bike with 25mm, went up first time too.
The g-ones seem a bit looser on the rim so I struggled to get them set up tubeless from the off but now they are all set up they’re great.
The price has crept up a bit over the past few months but They’re great tyres
ChrisAFree MemberPost to flat mount adaptors are available – http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/shimano-mount-adaptor-front-post-to-flat-road/rp-prod137892?gs=1&gclid=CI78ibKE99ECFRONGwodYlAIlA&gclsrc=aw.ds
Standards seem to be changing with discs, my roubaix runs QR but my diverge is bolt through. My preference is bolt through but I don’t see any issue with QR still. Cannondale are using QR rear & Bolt through front on there synapse so I guess there will be variation in wheel standards for a while until it settles down – it certainly wouldn’t stop me buying a new bike.
Those Caad frames are a real bargain, the new model Is circa £800!
ChrisAFree MemberI bought a set for my old croix from 18 bikes. They were about £150. Not sure if they can still buy them from genesis or not, but it’d be worth asking.
They look a lot better than the kinesis ones in my opinion.
ChrisAFree MemberTeapot – really interested in the niner if you have any pictures? Email in profile
ChrisAFree MemberI use 30mm schwable s-one on the winter bike & currently have 25mm Victoria pave on the summer bike. If I could fit 30mm’s on the summer bike, I’d do that too.
Personally I find there is very little speed differential between the two but the comfort of the 30mm’s over the 25mm’s is substantially better
ChrisAFree MemberPicked one up for £99 this morning too. My 800 still works fine though so might keep it as a spare
ChrisAFree MemberNot sure about the freehub fitting from the pro4 to pro 2, but if you have a pro 2 evo 40t hub you can buy a freehub to take an 11 speed road cassette. An alternative would be to drop a ring out the cassette so it’s 10 speed with 11 speed spacing, so would work fine minus an extra sti click.
ChrisAFree MemberThat’s really sad, his mum lives round the corner from us & she died last weekend too.
ChrisAFree MemberI think it would be foolish to challenge the process until it has reached a conclusion, but having seen this a few times to other people previously, i think I’d be using this time to line up another opportunity and move on.
ChrisAFree MemberSchwable g ones for mixed off road / cx & schwable s one’s for tarmac
ChrisAFree Member^^^^mattbee has it
We have both & for a quick run around, the v6 is fine for that but it won’t make it round the whole house & doesn’t pick up anywhere near as much as our Henry. The v6’s motor pulsing & constantly getting blocked with dog & cat hair in our house is a proper pain too. I don’t bother with the dyson any more, it’s less faff to just use the Henry.
ChrisAFree MemberNot sure how much you’re wanting to spend but the samling would be getting my vote. Every time we’ve stayed here it’s been fantastic. It’s more expensive than the drunken duck though.
ChrisAFree MemberI looked at both & got the 320d m sport touring. It defaults to Eco mode on start up & then switch it into sport mode. Heated seats are an extra on the m sport but everything else is standard stuff. Mines a 16 plate.
I drove the ED & it was ok but in honesty, it was total vanity for me, The m sport looks better & even though I’m doing a lot of miles, I don’t feel the need for more comfort, plus the small alloys aren’t my cup of tea!
ChrisAFree MemberOne of each for me, I use my long sleeve one just about all winter & then switch to the short sleeve one / nano flex arm warmers Spring / Autumn when it’s a bit more mixed weather
They are easily one of the best items of cycling clothing I own
ChrisAFree MemberWhat about something like this

ChrisAFree MemberYou’ll be fine where you are you’re about 10 minutes out of Kyrenia by car. The inlaws place is in the top side of Çatalköy so the other side of the main road from the beach where you are but in the mountains with a sea view. Good places to eat change pretty quickly out there & we’ll just be coming home as you go so feel free to drop me an email if needs be.
The local supermarkets stock just about everything you need too including the Efes beer, so no need to pack loads of stuff.
There are a couple of good local places where you are & turtle beach is just down the road too which is a big sandy with a nice cafe
ChrisAFree MemberI know it well, my Inlaws have had property out there for a long time in the Kyrenia mountains overlooking bellapais, it’s an amazing place & we’ll be out there for a few weeks in September. Temp wise in September will still be mid – high 30’s, by early October you’ll still be early 30’s late 20’s I’d have thought. We go about 2/3 times a year but fly into the north usually.
It only really drops too cold to go in the pool outside at about early / mid November.
Girne is Kyrenia, which is one of the main tourist areas to be, so you’ll be in a good location. Where are you staying? There are plenty of bars for drinks down by the harbour & in the town. They have released buzzards back into the wild in the mountains, that you can usually see circling too.
As for things to see in he local area, there is bellapais abbey, the blue house, buffavento castle, Kyrenia castle, turtle beach, vouni palace & or if the weather is a bit cooler / early in the morning St Hillarion castle, but it’s a long way up in the heat!
The Karpas peninsula is great to see the donkeys & the beaches are amazing. There are some wooden huts out there that you can hire for the night to sleep, but I can find some more details out if it’s of interest. There is a monastery over on the Karpas too dating back to the 12th century.
Alternatively, you can go the other way out toward Morfou Bay. I think it’s amazing out there. just pick up the coast road out of Kyrenia & keep going. There is a little cafe along the coast to sit by the sea & have a drink along the route and carry on out.
Famaugusta is worth a visit & Nicosia is too, but don’t go on a hot day. You can walk on foot over the green zone
its a pretty modest way of life out there, especially out of the main towns, but that’s all part of it appeal & there are some brilliant places to eat, drink & see.
Drop me a line if you want any more advice or info
ChrisAFree MemberWe’re looking to put ours on the market & look for something else over the next few weeks
I can’t say I’m happy about the referendum result, but I’m also not going to sit on my arse and wait to see what the fallout is. You can’t put your life on hold for something you can’t influence and house wise, it’s all relative. If we sell ours for a bit less than we could have done last week, we’ll push whatever we buy to make it back at the other end. It’s all relative.
We just fixed our mortgage for 2 years too fee free at just over 1.5%. At this rate, it looks like little will change in 2 years time, but it’s all crystal ball gambling on the interest rates.
ChrisAFree MemberSame round here to be honest, we’re stuck in the endless loop at the moment where we want to move, but the properties we are looking at are pretty scarse, so we are a bit reluctant to put ours up for sale until something comes to market we want to buy. I don’t really want to put ours up & mess the buyers about when we have nowhere to go to yet, but for us, there just isn’t really anything to buy
ChrisAFree MemberI was in the Shepton Mallet outlet store yesterday & they let me use my code in there, so I ended up with a pair of pro team thermal bibs & pro team bibs with some merino knee warmers for £180.
ChrisAFree MemberAgreed, I had a ml7.5 & it was a great bikes. I just struggled to get the saddle angle sorted on mine but it was a great climber & descender
ChrisAFree MemberTommee tippee percect prep machine x 1000. I can’t believe no one else makes one, i’d highly recommend it.
ChrisAFree MemberCheers guys, I’d probably plump to use the croix de fer too I think so it’s good that some of you have too!
Are you running flat pedals or clipless? I was thinking of running 35mm land cruisers too for maximum puncture proof.
Even if I bought a new mountain bike, I’d only use it for towing & a few enduro’s that I could probably do on the cx bike these days!
