Well, I’ve gone through a few tyres recently, seeking the “one”. Had High Roller II’s, Minions, Spesh Purgatory, Nobby Nics, Fire XC’s, Racing Ralphs and Rocket Rons.

Running tubeless now so don’t want to have to swap out and the best tyre I have used is the Schwalbe Hans Dampf.

It does everything I need; weakest aspect is mud but even then it isn’t bad and clears quickly.

Best tyre I’ve come across for general everything riding.

Yep. Spare goes with me every ride.

Just a quick one – how did you confirm the Burgtec 7002 set is the correct one for a Nerve AM please?

Put it in your pocket man!

Last thing you want is going over the bars (or some other calamity) and trashing your posh phone….

…..which is exactly what happened to my Bryton GPS!

I got my Custom Van R off TFT, it’s very nice! Replaced an RP23 Kashima, I was too fat for an air shock!

    Shouldn’t you be at sea 😉 ?

I’ve got a xtr shadow plus on my Canyon and I don’t have a single scratch on the chainstay. I’d say for general AM and trail centre work the chain device is redundant if you have a shadow.

Mind you, I never had a chain jump off a chainring ever, I must be a mincer.

If the Hebrides were a thousand miles further south they’d be the Costa del Sol, and ruined.

I’d set about a trip from Oban. Get an Island Hopper ticket off Calmac.

Barra is fantastic, camp on the beach at Eoligarry. On South Uist stay at the Gatliff Trust hostel at Howmore. The beaches on S. Uist are amazing.

Benbecula is a bit dreary and dominated by the MoD, there is a good Co-Op on the “main” road though…

North Uist is OK but the jewel in Berneray – again stay at the Gatliff Trust hostel. It’s fantastic and right on the beach. We watched otters from the hostel door step.

Harris is great with brilliant walking (Clisham is the highets peak in the Hebrides and reaches Corbett status) and the southern end around Tarbert has some fab beaches.

At this point I’d stick in terms of where to stay. Head to Lewis for the Callanish stones. If you do want to head further north there’s a great beach and campsite at An Cnip. However Lewis is the home of the “Wee Frees” and is a bit dour. Stornoway is not a social town.

From Tarbert you can get the ferry back to Uig on Skye and enjoy the delights of the Sligachan Hotel!

    I love it up there!

I’m good with the wooly jumper argument. Makes more sense than simply continuing to consume finite resources.

    But I know nothing.

If a buyer makes any complaint just offer them a full refund straight away. Often you will get the “partial refund” B******s – just give them their money back, claim the ebay fees back and then readvertise.

I made the mistake of watching a Stans video about Flows and drilling the the inner wall out to get the rim tape valve to seat properly. Then I figured it out (I’m a hamfisted etc).

Solution; cut a small square of inner tube, fold diagonally twice, snip the tip of the fold, open up and trim the outer radius to fit and you have a nice rubber “washer” to seat the valve in.

This has never leaked on me yet…

Got an 11 yr old girl (going on 22) and a 3 yr old boy. Neither is a “favourite”, they both make me laugh with joy for different reasons.

So, thanks for all the posts – a varied set of responses!

I have gone for a Blue Pig X (CRC – new and cheap) and a pair of Fox Float 32 140mm (open bath – cheap ex-demo from Fulford Cycles in York).

I’ll put up some pics and thoughts once it’s rolling.

    Cheers

I have a Nerve AM9 and I changed both pretty quickly.

Settled on a 60mm Nukeproof Warhead stem and Syncros Carbon 720mm.

    Works fine for me!

I swapped over from tubes because I fancied the idea of no more snakebites.

Not had one since I did, a result!

    maybe stating the obvious but…

slacken the caliper bolts, spin the wheel and gently apply the brake til the wheel stops. hold the brake on and pinch the bolts (low torque). Re-spin the wheel. if it spins freely you got it. if it doesn’t repeat the above until it does.

You’d think, naively, that any company would use reviews to concentrate their stock on what people like. Wouldn’t you?

My Mum and Dad cycled through the Lhairig Ghru on 1950’s road bikes, in the 1950’s. With saddle bags.

I tend to ride with the propedal on – I swapped over to the RP23 because I was under the impression it was a better shock.

So what difference will it make?

I got the Flows on Pro2 Evo straight pulls off Winstanleys. I’m a complete FB and they are great.

The Hope rim tape isnt air tight so you’ll need the wide yellow tape to seal them if you run tubeless, no need to use the rubber rim tape or drill the inner wall.

You made the right choice, nice one!

I got a Canyon Nerve AM9 back end of last year and I have had nothing but complete fun on it…. It’s not just value for money – its a great bike all round. It goes up hill ok (pro pedal and Talas lockout), shifts (xtr) well and with the reverb and Elixir 7s it does everything I could want. And then there’s the downhill bit….

Nothing has gone wrong with it at all. Whether there were some probs before I don’t know but I sure am a happy Canyon owner.

Showerman – all the best dude!

    Wheels sealed and running tubeless.

I can remember cycling across Mastiles only to be overtaken by a set of m/crossers who seemed to think that wheelspin and trench digging was the best thing since. As for the complete carnage m/bikes created across Round Hill between Ilkey/ Middleton and Blubberhouses…. since the ban on motorised twonks the moor has recovered. Never let them back.

Oh well, great wheels nevertheless, I’ll stick the tubes in.

So why does Stan use a rim strip and Notubes sell a flow specific rim strip?

Feeling a bit upset now, I do like the sympathy people lavish about sometimes.
