Sounds like what I’ve given’em – Nicely described thanks Iain!

    Exactly.

But no complaints means those in charge see no problem and so do nothing to improve things…

Ideally they’d train everyone without that kind of prompt… maybe they thought real coffee would scare the natives?

    Molgrips,

Perhaps let the indie know in what way you were disappointed by your coffee? Where I worked there was only me could actually pull a shot of espresso (and I didn’t normally make the coffees!) The simple reason (similarly to pretty much every other shortcoming there) was that nobody had ever made any comment. I suspect those that knew the taste of real coffee ran away and we were left with customers who actually liked thin yet bitter coffee with scorched milk.

Then again, it does seem hard to give constructive criticism without the recipient getting very defensive of their (obviously flawed!) product/methods…

    (Minor hijack, sorry!)

Given the inconsistency mentioned, can anyone comment on the sizing for the FS260’s please. I’m a 30-32″ waist so will the small (stated as 30-32″) actually fit or be a bit snug?

    Cheers,

    Chris.

    Thanks all,

Had deliberately left the brand out of it, but many of you saw straight through my cunning ploy and went straight for Superstar!! They are Superstar Sintered! Never pushed the pistons back on these brakes as they’re mechanical and don’t stick. I believe they were properly bedded in. They were bought recently and didn’t look all that sorry for themselves (aside from the missing bit of course.)

Will perhaps try some different brands in future…

My letter of objection went today. Also handed a copy to Wells constituency MP who wasn’t happy at the plans (she hadn’t been aware of the plans but her team were: They also seemed pretty confident the proposed sale wouldn’t be successful) and assured me she’d be raising her objection. The team confirmed that some land on Mendip was earmarked for disposal but didn’t say where…

    Fingers crossed now…!

They’re a not-for-profit, AFAIK they sell the bikes just to fund the efforts to keep serviceable bikes out of landfill and give folks who’re short of a skill the chance to gain spannering work experience and qualifications. Also, AFAIK they don’t buy bikes, they just recondition donated wrecks.

…Maybe your theif realised the bike wasn’t worth much and dumped it, someone found it and gave it to a good cause?

Who did you speak to there? Not everyone will necessarily have all the info or be in a sufficient position of authority to feel like they can sort this out to both your satisfaction…

Edit: Yep, Ninja, Ben is a top bloke and the guy to speak to at CycleRecycle to get anything done! – I can’t believe he’d not get this resolved.

slash through the skin but not into the meat so that it’s in strips but still on the joint. Tiny rub of veg oil to get salt to stick, generously salt, rubbing into cuts. Preheat oven to ‘preposterous'(220 or more) and cook at that temp for the first 20-30 mins until the crackling is nice and blistered but not burnt. Finish cooking time at 160 ish. Remember to rest meat 15 mins before carving.

quite warm i suppose, they’ve staved off the appearance of the winter longs, but weren’t all that uncomfortable in the summer. Pretty sticky under there but no more so than socks get or under the camelback straps…

661 veggies have quite a bit of coverage on the back, take the edge off most pedal strikes to the calf for me anyhoo… I have large and they fit well despite me being 5’8-9 and having plenty of scrawn.

I’ve been in exactly the same situation as you Br1zz. I liked them in use when they did work, but after wasting money and time on trying to get/keep the Juicys (older 3s) working I gave up and went for some m595 Deores. Only had to change pads since in months of riding… no faff.

Your money’s better spent getting shot than trying to fix the Avids in this case Imho.

Really late update I know, but we did indeed get two days brilliant riding in so thanks again for the pointers.

Found climbing in the Quantocks hard work but worthwhile – maybe steeper than it looks, or maybe just the muggy weather we had??

Mendip way we really enjoyed the fast trail skirting Black Down and exploring Rowberrow…

Will be packing the bikes more often on trips down SW!

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Brilliant help thanks everyone… Good links Winston and Timmys.

Thanks for the offer David but what I have from these maps should suffice…Unless there’s one trail I really shouldn’t miss!!?

Buzz, we should be riding out Mendip way on Wednesday this week and Quantocks on Thursday. Me and the girlfriend, so probably a fairly leisurely pace – happy to cover a good distance though… glad to have any company/guiding if anyone fancies it!

    Cheers,

    Chris.
