I did a lap of W2 earlier, its all pretty clear but the greenery either side of zigzags is getting out of control. Lots of gritty sand about but hopefully it will be less of a problem with a bit of dry weather forecast for the weekend.

Are these any good at not misting up as soon as you get a bit hot? All other glasses i’ve tried have been useless!

I have a covert and am so impressed with it I’m tempted to get a bandit frame as well because I have all the parts spare to build one up. 2011 models are very cheap on the transition US site even with delivery charges.

I run 36 talas on mine, not noticed any harshness yet and really helps getting the front down on a climb. I did try RS air Totems reduced to 160mm, these felt really nice and were very stiff but the steerer was cut too short for me to ride comfortably.

Both feel much nicer than the 150 revs I have on another bike- good fork but a Covert needs something burlier IMHO.

I have a GF1 with the 20mm lens and its fantastic, a real improvement over a compact for the full range of adjustability and it can still fit into a decent size pocket. The later gf’s have gone even smaller so more portable and i’m sure they will have improved technically over the GF1 as well.

If you’re not too bothered about the size of a camera and plan to use numerous different lenses I would recommend going for a DSLR though. The lens are cheaper and more readily available on the used market, choose either a Nikon or Canon and you can’t go far wrong.

Thanks for updating the thread, project. To clarify, is the paralysis permanent?

Best wishes to Mark for the tough times ahead, great to hear that he is remaining positive.

Thanks all, I can confirm that the forks have a 160 post mount as standard. 203 adaptor picked up and fitted for the test run tomorrow.

Hope these forks bed in quickly, they’re not very plush when initially pushed-‘stiction’? Not something I’ve felt before with brand new RS Revs.

Thanks crotchrocket, I’m hoping the 2010 is the same then.

Jonah, was the bird at the top of the Wall trail/Piccadilly? I may have had the same one fly right in front of me heading downhill on the link road from Whites this morning- he was nearly close enough to touch at one point flying just ahead of us for 100m+, gutted we didn’t have a gopro on at the time!

Thoughts out to the guy for a full recovery, incredibly serious injuries by the sounds of it. I walked away from a tumble today and news like this reminds me how fortunate I am.

My signature added, had no idea that this plan was in the pipeline. I’m coming to the end of my 2nd year of training and its looking increasingly bleak to firstly obtain a job when I qualify nevermind making a decent living if I do manage it….REALLY should have done that engineering degree instead!

I received my Covert frame last week and have been impressed so far. Good build quality and finish out of the box and went together with no issues. Kashima RP23 is very good and the back end is nicely stiff with the 142 axle. It pedals very, very well and seems quick enough pointed downwards although Im at half speed at the moment. Im not entirely happy with my choice of 160mm totems on the front so will likely fit some Lyrik or 36’s in the near future. Its light enough to run a single front ring with the totems, a lighter fork will make it better still.

Overall, I think its a better bike than my Remedy. If you want a large size I’d get in touch with some dealers quickly, the black has run out and stock is low on the white and blue apparently.

Rode the Wall yesterday, no trees across the trails. There were a couple down blocking the fireroad climbs but all were passable. I didn’t go over the link road to Whites but assume it would be clear or at least passable.

    Stevelol, nice bike!

I’ve just bought a Covert frame, will arrive on Tuesday. The (very nice) black colour is out of stock in the large size which is a shame so I’ve gone for the white. I’m going to try a set of Totems set to 160mm and will probably stick a coil on there as i’m on the heavy side.

More pics from owners would be good, white ones especially!

I minced around the fireroads at Afan this morning for a leg stretch, first ride after a crash 3 weeks ago. Cant wait until my arm heals properly :(
Really quiet up there this morning, only saw a handful of riders about.

How about the raw finish? Looks great in the flesh although it costs a little more.

Apologies if its a silly question, but can these just be slung in a backpack or do they need to be taped to the bars to work properly?

Edit:just read above post about being slung in a backpack!

Yes, those are bushes. Buy a cheap tool and poly bushes off ebay, job done in 10 minutes.

Cheers to all the well wishers, i’ll be back on a bike soon enough- how long it will be before i keep off the brakes is another matter!

I can confirm the I had no other protection than my helmet, i’ve been meaning to get knee pads after a couple of minor bumps and bruises now ill add elbow pads to the list.

I think ive become far too complacent on the trails, I ride at Afan a couple of times a week so i’d probably not have used pads if I owned any TBH. This episode means I’ll be wearing protection when riding in future.

I’m always patient with a slower rider upfront and hang back unless there’s an obvious place to pass coming up. Always wary of holding others up as well, usually lycra clad XC skinny boys chasing each other(who usually don’t want to bother with a simple ‘thankyou’ on the way past)

What really grips my poo though- large groups standing about blocking the trail start/ends, pick your bike up and GTF out of the way!

Take the wheels off and pump the brakes a little to move the pad starting position closer to the disc, this shortens the lever throw and MAY solve your problem.

Rode around the Wall and some of Whytes today and the ground is in great condition. Theres a few boggy areas but the last 3 sections of the Wall and Windy Point are all fast and generally firm.

Ordered lots on there, some cheap summer stuff on sale as well. Cheers for the heads up and the extra 30% code!

Good luck Op, I hope your Aunt gets well soon. As has already been suggested, support your uncle as much as possible and get in touch with the ward. They should welcome any family support if its appropriate for your Aunt at this time.

The decision to impose the section won’t have been taken lightly, hospital beds are in short supply especially during the xmas season. For whatever reason, she needs to be where she is for the moment.

Kevolution, I didn’t intend to single you out as an Afan basher – my apologies if you understood it that way. I meant that there are generally a lot of negative comments about Afan (on this and other forums) lately.

It’s a shame the negativity isn’t having much effect, the Wall was as busy as ever this morning

OP- how did you find Brechfa?

    chopchop

I visited Brechfa for the first time last Friday. Did the Raven and I was dissapointed. The climbs weren’t worth the decents which were mainly short berm sections. Boggy, slippery climbs aren’t my idea of fun unless they are rewarded with either a fantastic view or adrenaline filled decent. To top it off, the trails weren’t all open. I jumped the fence at the shared section mentioned above as I couldn’t face another fireroad (the diversion), that section was pretty good I must admit. I made straight for the carpark after that so I don’t know if I missed anything worthwhile.

A few Afan haters here which is a shame, there are fierce fireroad climbs but once they’re over with the downhills are lots of fun. The trails are going to get wrecked with all the felling going on which is a shame, but I’ll keep on riding there regularly especially as its a 15 minute drive away.

Saying that, if bad reviews on here mean less groups of riders cluttering up the trails at Afan, keep hating!

    Apologies for the buzz-kill…..

I usually get the same service as above but i’m having grief with one order at the moment.

Ordered a headset on the 7th that was showing ‘in stock’. After many emails and phone calls with promises of next day dispatch and call backs, I feel distinctly unimpressed with Customer service on this occasion. So much so, I have even ordered some bits from Merlin instead in the last week.
