Poison the pond whilst the spawn are still developing, that’ll sort ’em out.

Edit – just re-read subject heading. Red, anybody?

Spent most of last nights’ race at Haldon thinking ‘am I having a heart attack..?’ But after the cramp/stitch passed, mainly thought about the substantial fried sandwich I’d be eating the following morning.

Pleased to report that sausage, bacon, egg, tomatoes, mushrooms and black pudding on three tasted soooooo good. (Hey, it’s a rare treat eh?) 8)

We took our first at 7 months (New Forest in early summer). It was great – totally weaned my missus off the need to sterilise everything, as the first thing the nipper did was crawl out of the tent and tuck into a large handful of leaf mould!!

So long as you make sure they’re warm enough at night they’ll be fine.

How are you all measuring 5psi differences in neg pressure?? I reckon I lose way more than that just unscrewing the shock pump.. 8O

Al, it’s a Cube Ltd, and I’m currently running 2.25″ Nics (tubeless) at c.27 psi. For the record, fork is a SID 120mm RLT.

BR – was that a carbon post at 31.6mm dia, or did you reduce to 27.2mm?

    Thanks for the responses.

Sorry, I’ve got to add this to the (let’s face it, fairly comprehensive) list by Crikey – Those damned extending dog leads!! ‘On a lead’ should imply that the canine in question is in close control of its owner. Not f***ing about, 30 feet away on the end of a near-invisible length of cord.
The other end of which is generally populated by a myopic geriatric or mid-life crisis-suffering git whose take on life typically involves the detriment of every other living soul on the planet.

Not that I’m bitter or anything.. (recoils into a large glass of red, taking comfort in the knowledge that tomorrow evening will bring time in the woods on the bike, far from lead-wielding grockles). Humbug.

I’ve just started using Rock & Roll Extreme – it soon flashes off, then you clean the chain to within an inch of its life, so no real residue to pick up dirt. Nice silent drive train from the get go, but haven’t used it in the wet yet..(isn’t this weather great??).Time will tell.

Haven’t had too many complaints, though I did get the ‘why don’t you use your bell?’ comment from a very cross woman near Burley. I simply replied with a hearty ‘good morning to you too!’ (as I don’t have a bell..)

I’ve found that the recent upgrade to Hope Hoops usually alerts folks to my presence. Most equestrian types ’round our way seem pretty decent.

I get annoyed by dog walkers whose idea of having their dog ‘on a lead’ implies having it attached by 30 feet of near invisible nylon cord. Those darned things should be banned IMHO. On a lead should mean the dog’s in close control, not able to run over & knock toddlers off their feet.

Hmmm, quiet country lanes + road bike.. If the lanes by you are anything like the ones ’round here I’m not sure I’d want to be on a road bike. Unless wheel building’s also a favourite pastime. How about a spare wheelset with some slicks for your hardtail? Works for me, though granted it wouldn’t let you keep up with your mates if they’re all on road tackle.

If I could clean / spanner the car in the comfort of the kitchen it might look as cared for as my bike, which is generally well sorted. As my better seven-eighths uses the car 99% of the time, I reckon she should clean it. I don’t ask her to clean my bike after all.. :D

Fox launch pro for me. Get a little hot over distance, but still comfy TBF. Anyone tried the elbow pads?

My missus just checked out page 966, and is now demanding to know why I don’t resemble that chap after cycling through the winter months. I generally have to tie some string to my todger in order to be able to find it again when I’ve been out for a few hours on the bike. Is this a blatant germanic slight to make up for previous lacklustre performances on their part (don’t mention ze voor..) :-)

I’d like to go back & finish the Kielder 100. I’d have taken a 13 hour finish time over the DNF I got last year any day..

I’m with you rocket dog, my longest so far’s 72. Looking forward to the lighter nights.

I can clearly see the problem – there’s only five patches on a tube clearly advertised as having 700 holes…. (sorry couldn’t resist)

Just got through to Merlin Cycles who measured the 100mm travel post for me, the distance is 175mm (minimum exposed length at full extension) so clearly worth asking the question jamesco..

Looks like that’s the one for me then. Cheers all.

jamesco – If I’d thought it was that easy I’d not of posted eh? the 25mm difference is in the travel – it doesn’t necessarily mean all of the other dimensional details will be identical, hence the question.. :-)

Ok, so it looks like 190mm might be a close call (ok when wearing chunky flat pedal shoes, maybe a tad tall when running SPD’s/lighter footwear), so can anyone tell me what that measurement would be for the 100mm travel reverb please?

    Cheers again.

Sorry Matt, missed your post – a belated answer is yes, persisted, and they’re still up, though need an occasional ‘boost’ if not used for a few weeks (I have a cheap set of wheels running city jets for my commute).
I left the wheels on their sides on a bucket for an hour each side, occasionally (when I went in for a cuppa) giving them a gentle shimmy (imagine ‘panning for gold’ type motion) to swill the stans around a bit.

I have to say, I’ve found the snakeskin variety to seal much better/quicker, and there’s only something like 35g per tyre in it, over the normal evo’s (talking Nobby Nics here). My old Alex rims that I’d ghetto’d using BMX innertubes had snakeskins on, and took far less to seal. They’re a heap tougher as well.

+1 for merino. I’ve been using Endura Baa Baa in both short and long sleeves, and personally think it’s great – just wear it on its own in the summer.

Traded up from Hayes Strokers to Hope X2 evo’s a couple of months back – they’re great, super feel, easy to bleed (no kit needed other than a short length of aquarium pipe) and plenty powerful. The bite point adjustment actually works, and the standard of fit & finish is spot on (no more wobbly levers…) As above, unless you’re planning to run gravity enduros or other DH, I’d imagine the V2’s would be a bit OTT.

Depends what you’re looking for. If you’re into DH you’ll be dissapointed. It’s not particularly hilly, but you can string some decent distances together if XC is more your bag, and you want to treat it as a training week (i.e. throw in some intervals etc.) and some of the climbs can be interesting due to the loose surface and deep ruts.

But for me it wins out when I want to bolt the kids seat to the back and take my nipper out. There’s plenty to keep young eyes engaged, from numerous rail crossings to forestry machinery as well as the natural stuff ponies, pigs & deer etc. An 18 mile ‘lap’ with 15kg of moveable ballast on the back certainly hits the ‘train heavy – race light’ philosophy squarely between the eyes. Enjoy. :-)

Think I’d better just throw my bike in the sea now, and take up crochet.. I couldn’t pick half those lines sat in a chair watching, let alone bucking around at that velocity. Chapeau… 8O

The Happy Cheese (crap name) at Ashurst is ok for pub grub, though there’s a great pub on the Lyndhurst – Brockenhurst road which has rear access from the forest, buggered if I can remember the name though. Bit pricey, but lovely food.

Blimey – is that all? That’s great news, cheers. The final slice of the pie may well fall into place, if only I can convince myself of the ongoing reliability..

Thanks for the prompt response Craig. :D

Gerber suspension – rubbish! I got one as a freebie from a bike mag in lieu of a bike specific multitool, and promptly bent both blades back beyond their designed limits simply trying to bear down & cut a plastic rawlplug to length. Sent it back to Silva UK (gerbers uk warranty bods) and got it replaced foc, but it’s a seriously flawed design. The locking mechanism compromises the blade stops. Shame, as the steel used takes a good edge. The saw wouldn’t rub through cheese though. I’ll stick with my swiss army knife, and crank bro’s multitool. :?

I swapped out my Cube Ltd’s Dart 3s for 120mm SID RLT – the steering now feels less like it’s going to tuck the front wheel under round tight corners, and I can navigate through the scenery rather than just bouncing off it. Don’t see the need for a remote lockout, it only takes a split second to flick the fork top to lock it up. And the dual air set up is well plush (particularly compared to the darts..) Easy to service, and you can always put the (supplied) travel spacers in if you want to run them at 100mm. You’ll also be saving about 760g, which is nice. :-)

Can anyone tell me what the distance is be from the centre of the seat rails to the where the top of the seat clamp is (for the 125mm travel reverb) at full extension? I looked on the SRAM site, but couldn’t find that info?

    Cheers.

Matt, were they plain black or do they have a grey stripe / cube logos on – I couldn’t quite suss out the details on the On One site? Cheers.

You may find they take a few days to seal fully, my Nics leaked through the sidewalls for a while. I think it may help to use the tyres with tubes in for a while first, or to gently scrub the inside of the carcass with a pan scrub & soapy water to get rid of the mould release they use in manufacture, as the stans sealant may ‘ciss’ (crawl) away from it (like silicone contamination if your spray painting). Just a thought.

Blimey, the price of some of the bottle cages you guys are talking about!! Blackburn comp for me (c.£4 ) and have to say I’d have been gutted if I’d paid more for a cage after seeing how badly worn mine were after Kielder! The grit almost wore through the bottles too!

I recently serviced my 2011 SID RLT’s (120mm) for the first time, after 1400 miles (including hot dusty weeks in southern france & a gritty ol’ time on the Kielder 100 – no issues at all, so can’t imagine nedrapiers concerns over service intervals would really be an issue.

Teaching a half-model making short course all weekend – so not racing in round 1 of the fully sussed series at Woodbury common tomorrow (ahh bugger…) but as am suffering with tendonitis that’s probably a blessing in disguise. Ho hum. :(

As Rondo, Though I went with the XTR inners & kit to get the end seals & ‘tongued’ end caps. Run with continuous SP41 outers, still shifts as slick as the day they went on about 500 miles ago. And it is Slick. :D

Martin, I’m in the South West -but cheers anyway – I’m sure I’ll find a sports physio reasonably local! Much prefer the thought of massage over cortisone jabs. :D
And I’ve ordered a futuro brace to see if it helps at work. Here’s hoping eh?

Cheers for the linky Martin, got some reading to do! I think the doc said it was lateral, but there were a heap of other more medical words thrown in to the same conversation and I struggled to keep up with it at the time.

For balance, just lost 5 kilos in 4 days on the ‘Norovirus plan’ but certainly wouldn’t recommend it…

Dread to think how much our water bill’s gonna be after all that bog flushing. Currently weaning myself back onto solid food. 8O

Thanks for the response guys. It’s mainly pain on the outside, particularly when gripping / twisting stuff but pain inside if lifting (eg. getting a full bag out of the kitchen bin when I forget to use the other hand). Have been wondering if a sports physio might be my next port of call..
I’ll enquire about splinting whildt I’m there. Really missing riding offroad at the mo.

I remember a red Toyota Supra round Stourbridge when I was (a lot) younger ‘COM 1C’ (I think it was Jim Davidson driving).
